All I want from the iOS update is to be able to manage my pictures and schedule dnd by date- I hate the camera roll idea

On the phone - I want the ability to move not copy pictures in to folders.

I work different schedules - I want do not disturb to activate based on the day at a specific time

The reason above were the only reasons I jailbroke my past iPhones disturbplease and photoalbums+

Row and rows of icons is dated. I want widgets and a scrollable doc for staters.

Nahhhhh I’ll keep my rows of icon. Widgets are overrated. Don’t care. They’re kinda dead and dying imho. Again my opinion so people don’t get your panties up on a bunch. I turn off widgets on my Mac. I don’t like how it clutters the space.

I don’t want App drawers? Basically that’s coping android and I don’t want that. I like the simple design of the phone’s home screen.

I would like a better notifications, I have a iPhone 7 and a S8+ and notifications on Android give you a lot more info (and can by tapping on them to expand give you even more info), are easier to manage and much faster to swipe away or to clear them all.
I don't mind the iOS home screen, widgets are only mildly useful on Android, what I would like to be able to do would be at least arrange those icons as I want on the screen rather than having them only go from top to bottom, if I want only 4 apps on a screen why can't they all be at bottom rather than top for instance?

Coming from a note 8 to the x one thing that is mildly annoying is WhatsApp notifications. On the N8 if your in a group chat your notifications will be grouped together as one notifications instead of on iOS where you’ll receive each new message in that group chat as a new notification. Hopefully it will get sorted one day!

Despite the IMHO tag, this is not an opinion. It may be what you believe, but the fact that it continues to exist in the Android operating system means it is not dead and it is not dying.

Again my opinion so people don’t get your panties up on a bunch.

I don't use widgets on my Mac either, but I don't believe the Mac was the topic. The topic is iDevices, specifically the iPhone. It would be nice to have this option here.

Apple is already copying Android, they just have the widgets in the notification center now. Back when they had them in iOS 6 a jailbreak allowed you to place them on the Springboard. It was nice having the weather widget on all my home screens. But that hasn't been possible since iOS 6.

Now you like the simple design of iOS. Fine. But like anything Apple, they can make it so that those who want to do this have the option and those who do not don't have to. OP is not suggesting that everyone has to do the same as what he wishes.

I think the last thing we need is widgets on the home screen or app launchers. Leave that stuff to Android. Right now you have widgets right there to the left, if you really need to see what the weather is like that often, look outside.

I like and use Android often as well as iOS. When on Android I don't really use many widgets anyways. On Android I have the weather widget on the home screen. On iOS I swipe left to right and bam! A weather widget.. I live through this split second swipe to view the weather so not a big deal.

On my Android I usually have a widget for package deliveries on my 2nd screen so to view that widget I have to swipe right to left to get to that 2nd screen. On iOS I swipe left to right and bam! My package tracking widget is there. I generally survive this swipe as well so it's not an issue.

I view the whole widget thing as a wash unless someone wants several widgets on their home screen. If that's the case then there is no room for icons and now you gotta swipe to get to them....

I just see it as change for the sake of change and it doesn't really add any value. It looks pretty, but I feel like Apple should work to come up with something a bit more substantial if they want to overhaul iOS.

serious question for OP: what is keeping you on iOS? Sounds like you would be well served with an android device which you can customize to your hearts content... There are some nice smooth android phones out there today, not as smooth as iOS but they've gotten pretty damn close. I personally thought it was a cluttered mess and prefer the neat organized look of iOS.... some may find it dull but that's why we have choices, and you should certainly exercise your choice if you are unhappy with the progression of iOS.

Again, personal preference.

BTW, I don't have to look outside. Forecast, a jailbreak tweak, puts the weather animation from the Apple Weather app right on my lockscreen and homescreen.

No one is suggesting that people be forced to do any customization. All OP wants is to be allowed to do it.

You are suggesting that Apple continues to force us to not customize. I don't think that's a position I can really stand behind.

Question for you…

What has forced Apple itself to change?

If we really followed this down to the logical conclusion then we'd be back at iOS 1. Apple only allowed minimal customization, such as wallpaper changes. You couldn't even change a ringtone.

Is that really where we all want to go? If your answer to that is yes then there is hope. Because that's where Apple has been headed lately.

That's totally fine and I would welcome some customization options, but I don't find it necessary as it doesn't add much value for me. The OP sounds like he should have an Android phone or a jailbroken device, the options are there.

Interesting... but IMO, BGR has about as much credibility as my ex-wife.
Gotcha. BRG was just the first hit when Googling that, ... looks like "Ina Fried, chief technology correspondent at Axios", broke the story. I'm not familiar with Axios, but Ina's been around for a long while, although I haven't tracked her accuracy. Guess we'll see!

Here's the source story.

I'm sure you're being a little fictitious when you say all we've gotten is wallpapers and ringtones, iOS has come a long way in my opinion... Apple has borrowed a few things from the jailbreak community over the years. It's still a locked down system sure but for the majority of consumers that doesn't really matter. I was big on jailbreaking but haven't done it in years now and don't really miss it.... Apple is not going to change their ways for a few enthusiasts and geeks that like customizing and tweaking their devices... the majority of their customer base wouldn't even know how to perform a jailbreak on their phones and are content as long as the phone serves it's purpose.

You are kind of missing my point…

Because Apple forces the user to stay within their walls in regards to customization, those who argue that this should stay that way are validated by Apple's actions. Yet, Apple does not force any user to use features already included on the device and no one argues that the user should be forced to use those features simply because they are there.

No one cares what you do with your own device. The features Apple offers are optional.

Likewise, adding the ability to customize the device would be an option. Use it or not. Your choice. Just like all the other features Apple is not forcing people to use.

Arguing that someone should not be allowed that choice because you don't use it is the same thing as me arguing that nobody should be allowed to use Animojis because I don't use them. It's really no argument at all.

I don't care about customization and wouldn't care if it was on option for those who want it. I will point out that there would be additional code required to support it. I don't know how much it would be but it probably wouldn't affect me much. The effects might be different for the people with older phones though. The planned obsolescence crowd could have more to complain about.

I do get your point and I 100% agree with you, Apple should give us the ability to do as we please with a device we purchase, and those who are not interested could just ignore these features and keep it simple. I was just trying to point out why Apple doesn't do it, or has no motivation to do it.

I won't argue with that.

I just wonder why anyone bothers with wallpaper. You can't see it behind the wall of icons that 'everything you have under one place' presents.

Or maybe I'm looking at that wrong and the wall of icons IS the wallpaper people want.

That's why I put most my apps into one gray category box.:)

I'd rather see my wallpaper and know the apps I use are all in one place. It's easier for me and less busy/overwhelming.

Yes, I know. :D

Been doing that myself since iOS 6.

My point with the icons is that a lot of people just seem to prefer that plastered over their wallpaper. Obviously, not everyone but just look in any of the multitude of screencap threads around here and you can see it.

Yes, you would have to. At least for something similar anyway.

I'm currently on iOS 9.0.2 and have been jailbroken on this specific iPhone since October 2015. So, the tweaks that give me everything you see in that screencap are unlikely to work with iOS 11 (or iOS 10). They either have not been updated or the developers have abandoned them after iOS 9 - although there are probably alternatives.

thanks for reply. That screen looks amazing. i wish apple takes some feedback from that and provide these things in future releases.
