Hi all,


Can’t wait to share some good news with you: our first product developed entirely in Swift is finally released! Please welcome Commander One, a dual-pane file manager for Mac.


While working on it we kept in mind that a file manager is meant to help you organize and manage your Mac’s content in the most efficient way possible. Commander One does just that – deleting, copying, moving and renaming files, creating & managing folders require minimum effort and time, and operations can be queued up.

Apart from basic functionality the app enables you to do search and setup a combination of hotkeys for an action. History allows you to quickly go to the recently open folders, and Favorites – to those folders you frequently visit, in Brief mode you can view a large number of files.

Commander One features an integrated archiver that supports ZIP format – you can archive data, extract it or view archived files in a separate folder. The application enables you to view hidden files on your Mac, rename any file or folder while moving it to another location and browse local and network drives.

I hope someone from Eltima is monitoring this thread.

Feature request: Favorite workspaces. I find myself frequently working with multiple discrete folder pairs. If I could name and save each of these unique folder/location pairs, including tabs, then this already excellent software would be that much more useful.
 
You provided a coupon code, but is the software ready for purchase? If not, how long will the coupon code be good?

I have to say, it definitely looks promising!

Thank you for your feedback! We added it to our feature requests list, we plan to add this feature in one of the upcoming updates.

Commander One is free, you can download it from Eltima's website right now. PRO Pack is paid edition of Commander One with a batch of additional features. Now you can test PRO Pack functionality for free for 15 days.

Would love to see a "preview" window similar to the PathFinder's "bottom shelf".

Also can you explain the lifetime upgrade option? The website mentions it, but there seems to be conflicting info/restrictions... thanks.

Thanks you for your feedback! We will check possibility of adding such "preview" window.

As for lifetime upgrade, it is a one-time purchase that will always allow you to have the most up-to-date version of your license. You will not need to pay for any upgrades in future.

Thanks for the clarification...

One more enhancement request...

In the dual pane view, could you add a secondary background color to allow for a "striping" effect... would make working with long lists of files easier.

Although this will be a critical post, please do not take it as a negative reaction.

I looked at the webpage, and found myself thinking there is only one feature I noticed of interest when compared to the current dual-pain manager I am using, DoubleCommander. I use it as I can use the program on Windows, Linux, and OS X with pretty much the same processes. The only feature which piqued my interest was the access to iOS devices, and with that being limited to the media folder, which, on my iPads, is likely the least used destination (I don't store music or video on my iPads.)

What reasons can you offer to give me (or others like me) cause to consider the product? Please, don''t misunderstand me- it looks VERY well done, but I'm not seeing anything unique. There is nothing negative about my reaction relative to the product, just can't see what makes it shine over DoubleCommander or my old and trusty Total Commander on Windows, which I have used for over 20 years.

This is not the folder I was talking about.

Folder ~/Library is hidden. So you need:
1. switch on - Show hidden files
2. use main menu - Go -> Go to Folder
3. make folder ~/Library not hidden (sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library/)

Apart from basic operations, Commander One can offer you following:
- native interface;
- iOS/MTP mount;
- Dropbox integration;
- premium support for all our users.

Please also note that this is only first Version of the app. You will see a lot more in future updates.

I'll keep an eye out, but I do place a high value on multiplatform.

That said, a tip of the hat to you. I have indeed been playing a bit with it and do like it. I shall be watching. :)
 
Is this "just another Norton Commander clone with some extras thrown in" file manager? There are already plenty free file managers of this type available.

I will give it a try nonetheless, always looking for a Finder alternative.

That's not "just a clone''. Try it! I am sure you'll love it! It is a great Finder Alternative and we plan to make it the best!
 
I have already some quick questions:

1. Can it be run in single pane mode?
2. How can i customize the columns? I need a timestamp for files f.e., the date is not enough. I don't need the ext column, the kind column contains all the info i need.
3. Customization of the toolbar seems also not to be possible. Would be nice to add some commands as icons (thrash f.e.)
4. Will there be a startup option or do i have to start it automatically as an user app? Can it be run instead of the Finder like some other Finder alternatives? (XtraFinder f.e.)

I have similar comments as happycadaver:

1. Single pane mode option with a sidebar.
2. Possibility to customize the Toolbar (adding icons, like Trash as was mentioned in the previous post, Uninstall etc.) and the Columns (For instance, I don't need one of the columns, i.e. "Kind").
3. The application seemed to be slow sometimes (at least on my machine) when calculating the size of the files, when using the search engine (it was extremely slow in this case) etc.
4. Price for the PRO Pack. Well, all other similar applications are (much) cheaper or even free. I would reconsider the price at least during the "introductory phase".

Otherwise, it is a wonderful application. Good work! Congratulations!
