Would like to hear some funny stories, or any interesting looks, comments or reactions from people when using your iPhones in public...

i haven't really used mine in public, trying to keep it on the downlow, kinda nervous, but what about the rest of you guys, share your stories here! :)

curious as to how much attention this sexy device attracts...

I used mine at a concert and only the security guy noticed.

I also used it at a Best Buy (and jumped on to one of their wireless connections!) to look up some bands who were unknown to me (saved me from buying a crap cd!)... and sadly, no one noticed.

And I also made a point to walk DANGEROUSLY close to the wireless provider kiosks in the mall (Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and so on) WAITING for them to ask me if I have a phone so I could have a chance to say "Phone? You mean, like this one? (Pulls out iPhone) BOOYAH!"

No one asked, though. I was sad.

The T-Moble salesman at the mall saw mine the other day. He came running up to me to tell me he had better phones that had Wi-Fi and had a newer OS. I just looked at him and said really? Newer than an OS that comes out in October? And then showed him how I was on Wi-Fi at the moment and showed him the photos etc... he wanted one by time I was done:)

I was at the mall with a bunch of my friends, and we were walking by one of those kiosks when one of the guys tried to stop us, and my friend replies with "This kid's got an iPhone!" The guy was begging for me to come back to show him the phone.

I was in best buy the other day and recived a txt whilst talking to a rep about wireless cards for the g3 (anyone know which ones will work?) and he was like HOLY CRAP you're apple all the way aren't you. I was like Hell yeah!

i had to give a demo to the security guards at the federal courthouse yesterday. they wanted it.

hahaha I love these stories keep em coming guys, I'm replying from my iPhone right now while eating some mcdonalds in the food court. This is awesome. I feel like everyone is watching me right now. Ok better put this sexy thing away before I get followed.

they usually ask me about the concerns and things they've heard like battery life and lack of 3g. sometimes i show them a page being rendered over 3g to show them that it doesn't take horrendously long to do so. sometimes i'm in a wifi hot spot, so it loads pages a lot faster than they expect. they're also impressed by how much smaller and lighter it is than they expected. i gave it to one person today, trying to unlock it asked, "i don't get it. slide what?" it was pretty funny. :)

dude i was in church and while it was going on 3 different people wanted to play with it and asked me how to use it i was like LOL

"holy cow no way is that an iPhone?"
"Wow an iphone? Can i see it please, show me how it works."
"You would have an iPhone...................."

I'm nervous too. Here's what I do:

Safe Enviornment: Use it openly. Purposefully scroll through cover flow to show off.

Shady Enviornment: Put it on calculator, and it looks like a...calculator.

No seriously, I just hold it close in Times Square after work every day with the screen facing me, so it looks like a regular video iPod. But the people who recognize it in my safety zones, like at work, just ask how I like it.

I gave 4 presentations today (LOL), and I warned one guy who wanted to DIVE into Safari, that EDGE was slow. But to my shock, the web worked great on EDGE this evening. That's rare though.

On the first day I had my iPhone I was playing with it at a stoplight, I looked to the car next to me and saw the guy was stareing at me. He saw I was looking his way and mouthed "iPhone?" and I just nodded and smiled.

I also had it out in a meeting today and noticed a guy looking at it trying to figure out what it was. After the meeting was over here came over my way quickly and said "Is that an iPhone.....I bet a lot of people ask you to see it" to which I replied "do you want to see it" I think showing it off it definately part of the fun of having a new and exciting phone.

and more stories

Monday of last week, this woman at the metro was like "wow it is an iphone. This is the first iphone I see in person. how do you like it?" Then again last week, this guy walked up to me and he wanted to play with it..of course I wont let him touch the damn thing. He said that it is even smaller than it appears on tv.

it's cool how everyone recognizes and know what an iPhone is now... it's sort of like how the iPod is an iconic symbol that represents music, and pretty soon the iPhone will represent communication in a whole new different trendy style. Great job Apple! This device truly feels like a futuristic gadget like in those movies. The UI on this thing is definetly beyond next gen. I've owned many phones and gadgets before and I can sure tell you that none of them even comes close to this.

sort off OT, but how far deep in the metro do you have to get before you lose service? I was spoiled with verizon in the metro.

My favorite thing to do when someone asks to see it is to hit the unlock button so the screen says "slide to unlock" and hand it to them without saying anything. They'll stare at it for just a second like they're utterly confused. Then it will slowly dawn on them that they actually have to slide the virtual slider with their finger to unlock it. A hesitant finger moves towards the slider, unsure if thats the right thing to do. They slide their finger across, and as if by magic, the slider moves with their finger and the phone unlocks. "Woah, cool!" :D

i gave a quick demo to a bunch of people standing in line around me at whole foods a few days ago because I was IRCing on it while waiting in line and people were going all "hey, iPhone!". i let three of the cashiers handle it too. their biggest worry was the cost, otherwise...everyone looked like they wanted one :p
