Compared to the rest of the market, the iPhone isn't a top 10 smartphone.

A friend of mine asked me where I thought the iPhone ranked in today's smartphone market. After doing a quick run down of phones I know to be better, I realized the iPhone isn't even a top 10 smartphone at this point. In no particular order, here is a list of my top 10.

1. Note 4
2. Note 4 Edge
3. Nexus 6
4. LG G3
5. Galaxy S5
6. Moto X (2014)
7. One Plus One
8. Xperia Z3
9. Xperia Z3 Compact
10. HTC One M8 / Droid Turbo

Note: I would probably put the iPhone 6 Plus at spot number 12, and the iPhone 6 a few spots behind that (around 14 or 15).

Anything with Touchwiz automatically drops it from the top 10. Not only is the Samsung bloatware problematic, but the software is both storage and RAM heavy. Additionally, Samsung sucks at updating their software. Why is the S4 still sitting at 4.4.2?

And while One+ would be considered good hardware, it should be knocked for crappy customer support, a stupid and screwed up invite system to buy the thing, and the fact that it is running CM, which means leaving the consumer in the cold to get GAPPs installed.

Droid Turbo gets knocked for being a Verizon exclusive. If everyone can't buy it, why should it be in the top 10?

I'm far from being a Touchwiz fan, but I will still acknowledge they have top 10 devices. I don't rate them as highly as many people would, but I will give them credit where it's due.

I'm talking about the phones that are on the market, not the process of buying one, or anything outside of the phone itself. I get what you mean, however.

Regardless of its availability, it's still a top 10 device. Of course, if you aren't on Verizon, then it wouldn't be a consideration. However, if a person is interested in switching to Verizon or is already there, it would be on the list.

As much as I liked the Nexus 5 when it came out, there's no way I could consider it a top 10 device now. You can't put it ahead of the Note 4 Edge, or the One Plus One. You'd have one heck of a time trying to argue the Moto G being a better phone than the Note 4 Edge, the One Plus One, or the Z3 compact. Honestly, I'd go as far as to say the iPhone 6 and the Nexus 5 aren't too far off from each other (with the N5 being ahead). I think the 6+ is close to the top 10, but not quite there.

Imo, half of this list doesnt deserve to be truly better than iPhone 6
Nexus 6?
Pricey + 6'' format
HTC One M8, nothing really special, sublime design but common in specs and use
Z3? little evolution from Z2
Moto X, lack of battery life (but as good as iPhone 6 battery life lol)

I would keep
Note 4, incredible display quality,
One Plus One, best value for the money
LG G3, sightly better than early 14 high premium models such as Z2, M8, S5
Z3 Compact, maybe the true iPhone killer imo

If i had to pick one or two, i would choose Z3 Compact as iPhone 6 rival
and Note 4 as iPhone 6 Plus

As much as I liked the Nexus 5 when it came out, there's no way I could consider it a top 10 device now. You can't put it ahead of the Note 4 Edge, or the One Plus One.

I doubt I could think of 10 phones to construct a list, but the iPhone would be number one on mine. If I didn't think it was the best I wouldn't have bought it for obvious reasons lol. I do think the new Nexus and Note are good devices from what I have seen. Having spent time helping my brother with his LG G3 I wouldn't recommend that device personally, it's far too buggy.

The note has great reviews. I don't know about the nexus as I'm not interested in that. The iPhone 6/6 plus would be in my top 10. The 6 plus is the best phone I've used this year (S4, iPhone 5S, note 3, LG G3, S5).

For sake of conversation I'll call any phone with a display over 5.2" a large phone. 5.2" or less a standard phone.

Because of personal preference I just enjoy large phone's. Therefore I own an iPhone 6+ and Nexus 6.

Because I like variety I also have an iPhone 6 and Nexus 5.

Those are the best of the best for my usage and preferences. Currently I give the advantage to Android over iOS, yet again that's personal preference. It's also a reflection of Apple's tendency to be influenced by their own success then ceasing to forge ahead with their best work.

As a long time fiercely loyal yet outspoken customer I know for certain that Apple could do better if they fully applied themselves.

Well I've only had ny 6 plus for 3 days but I can say that the battery life is significantly better than my S5. The S5 isn't bad by any means and having a spare battery really helps but the 6 plus has incredibly good battery life.

Oh an by the way....It all depends on how you bench it. Some battery tests would have Apple pulling up the rear. Again, it just all depends on what you run and how. Again, if I have to explain benchmarks and why they haven't been relevant for some time, then you've already missed the boat anyway.

I go by actual use. Once upon a time, benchmarks told you how fast a device. Nowadays, the difference in benchmarks amounts to fractions of seconds in the real world. Even mid-range phones are not slow anymore, whereas in the past they'd have benched horribly. In today's world with today's technology, benches do not tell you very much about a phone at all.

In a nutshell, this list is comprised of phones I objectively think are in the top ten. Reasons range from device capabilities/software, to battery life and other specs. Long story short, they'd be phones one can argue is better than a phone not on this list. There were other phones I felt could have possibly made the list, or come close to it.

I totally agree. With iOS, it seems Apple is stagnated, stuck in a perpetual of game of catch up....where they just don't quite catch up. This past iteration was a big jump.....FOR THEM. But overall, it still didn't put them on the same playing field as the rest of the market. For example, while iOS was just getting basic things like 3rd party keyboards and NFC payments (from years ago), Android was adding things like smart locks, ambient display, and always on voice controls. I say that to say, there has been very little innovation coming in iOS, whereas the little green guy continues to bring innovations.
