I disagree. People buy what they know. That's why branding is so important.

And when you ask those people how they like their iPhone they reply its great I love it. And then they tell you of their droid owning mates who are always moaning about something or the other. In my experience.

Odd. I've NEVER run into anyone who when you ask them how they like THEIR phone, just randomly starts telling you about other people's phones. Very odd indeed. :apple:

A friend of mine asked me where I thought the iPhone ranked in today's smartphone market. After doing a quick run down of phones I know to be better, I realized the iPhone isn't even a top 10 smartphone at this point. In no particular order, here is a list of my top 10.

1. Note 4
2. Note 4 Edge
3. Nexus 6
4. LG G3
5. Galaxy S5
6. Moto X (2014)
7. One Plus One
8. Xperia Z3
9. Xperia Z3 Compact
10. HTC One M8 / Droid Turbo

Note: I would probably put the iPhone 6 Plus at spot number 12, and the iPhone 6 a few spots behind that (around 14 or 15).

So have you actually used all of these phones? Or is this just conjecture? Personally, I could only really do a top 3 as I don't really have much of an idea what other phones are really like.

Yes, I have. Actually I've used a lot more than just these.

Gotta be in it to win it
In a nutshell, this list is comprised of phones I objectively think are in the top ten. Reasons range from device capabilities/software, to battery life and other specs. Long story short, they'd be phones one can argue is better than a phone not on this list. There were other phones I felt could have possibly made the list, or come close to it.

A 3 year old phone running an obscure OS isn't even in the conversation.

Your list is biased. All "objective" lists like this are biased. It doesn't even matter that iphone isn't one the list. Mediocrity is in the eyes of the beholder and sales are related to mediocrity as well as popularity as well as excellence.

And what exactly is the bias? Considering that I am not a fan of some of the phones listed, and actually like certain other devices better, that are not listed, I'd like to hear what the "bias" is. :)

I don't know what your biases are.

My list starts with the iphone 6+ as number 1. But I have no intention of making a top 10 list; I vote with my wallet.

So in other words, you were just making a random statement....oook... o_0

As for the 6+, it's been done, and really doesn't bring anything differentiating to the table. In my opinion it's an average phone that doesn't bring anything to the table besides yesterday's features that have already been present for quite a while. Not only does it lack innovation, it lacks competent design. For example, there are other phones with comparable overall size, but packing a half inch larger display along with stereo speakers. The iPhone on the other hand fails to take advantage of it's body, and doesn't make good use of it's own real estate (hence huge bezels).

I agree. I have asked others what they like about their devices and none have come forward with stories about others but themselves.

You agree. I started off talking about the people I know. Then the other poster takes it off like I'm talking to random strangers. of course if I continued the conversation with a random stranger I could ask them about their friends experiences. It's not hard to do you know but I realsie in this day and age talking to people is a lost skills.

^ not sure I follow the above?

I talk with people daily so people skills and conversation is my sweet spot. What I am clearly stating is that if I simply ask, "hey, how do you like your iPad/iPhone or Note 3, etc" they typically will respond but not go off into conversation about what yet another person or group says about their phones. As noted, yes, I could ask them about their friends experiences but why?

I have no intention of making a top 10 list.

^ this. I could maybe put together a top 3. Even when in hard-core shopping mode, I quickly come up with a top 3 and narrow down to 1 in short order

But I'm not sure any of the phones listed really bring anything MORE new to the table than their predecessors over the iphone 6 to the iphone 5s. It's all just incremental features. And IMO if the iphone 6 doesn't have competent design, neither does any of the phones listed. Stereo speakers are not my idea of a differentiating product as they are useless to me as I use Bluetooth headphones and stereo speakers cannot be used as intended 98% of the time, for me.

What I find useful:

- best in class camera (I6)
- best in class DAC (i6)
- best in class apps overall (apple)
- best in class support (apple)
- ease of use (iphone)

The one think that would be useful that apple does not support is removable battery.

Oh an by the way....It all depends on how you bench it. Some battery tests would have Apple pulling up the rear. Again, it just all depends on what you run and how. Again, if I have to explain benchmarks and why they haven't been relevant for some time, then you've already missed the boat anyway.

See how that works? lol

Holy ****, look at the Droid Turbo!!! I actually just ordered one in ballistic nylon yesterday, can't wait to try it out and see if I like it more than my 6 Plus.

Well I've only had ny 6 plus for 3 days but I can say that the battery life is significantly better than my S5. The S5 isn't bad by any means and having a spare battery really helps but the 6 plus has incredibly good battery life.

Chica...you actually bought a 6+? Color me truly surprised.

IIRC, you were waiting on a specific color Note 4..what happened?

And knowing what a big fan of the Note series (and Galaxy S as well, I believe) you are, I'm quite shocked you are trying another iPhone. I might have to run out and pick up a Note 4 just to put the mobile universe back in balance. ;)

In all seriousness though, how are you finding your experience with the 6+?

Compared to the rest of the market, the iPhone isn't a top 10 smartphone.

The only problem with threads like this - is/are the rather misleading thread title/s.

It should at least have the suffix or prefix : in my opinion, appended to it.

As it currently stands it looks or reads like it could be based on meta reviews or sales figures or but it's neither, it's just subjective opinion of the OP and therefore not indicative in any way shape or form of other users (many of them) and should be clearly labeled as such.

Indeed there is no overriding factual base - such as sales figures or meta reviews / consumer scores - just one persons bias.

Hence we get so much silly fighting that goes one when threads like this are created.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Out of interest, why do you have so many phones (or change them so regularly). That must be very expensive!
Lots of peeps in the alternative section are tech junkies and will use any opportunity to add another device to their arsenal.

As to the thread, honestly I can't see how anyone can say that the iPhone isn't in the top 10. Even subjectively, that would be a reach.

My top 10

1. Note 4
2. Nexus 6
3. iPhone 6+
4. Xperia Z3
5. iPhone 6
6. Droid Turbo
7. Note 3
8. LG G3
9. iPhone 5s
10. Moto X

+1. iOS is yesterday's mobile operating system, in today's packaging.

The Droid Turbo is a beast. I love how they managed to pack a battery that size into that body.

I like technology, so I tend to switch up frequently, so as to experience the different phones out there. This year, my daily drivers (the ones that made the cut) have been Nexus 5, G Flex, Galaxy 5, G3, and Nexus 6. Honestly, it isn't very expensive, as I always sell the previous device. This causes me to either come out of the pocket very little, or not at all.

Do we really need a disclaimer for everything? If anyone can't tell that it's just the OP's opinion from the first sentence, then that's their fault.

Your comment about IOS could be applied to windows as, it's 30 years old and is just a skin over ms-dos. The same comment can apply to Unix and derivatives and Linux; all of which are old as well. In the mobile space IOS was the first 64 bit o/s making all others "yesterday". /sar

Exactly! That's why I didn't even bother to respond to that person. Clearly this post is that of a subjective nature. If one needs a disclaimer in order to discern the obvious, then they have other challenges to deal with beyond my smartphone opinion lol.

I'm not talking about age, I'm talking about functionality (and I can't stand Windows by the way lol). As for 64-bit, that really isn't even an argument you can make, as it isn't even really implemented, nor does it really have the hardware to make use of it anyway.
