YOU are EXACTLY the customer I'm talking about. YOU are the person I have my sales staff slam the door on, because you cost us money with your incessant penny-pinching and whining.

And it's not just my business. MANY small-medium businesses are blacklisting problem buyers, who have been trained by the big stores to believe the customer is always right.

Well here's a wake-up call for you; the customer is NOT always right. And any business has the right to refuse service.

So you can feel free to carry on behaving like an entitled self-important little gnat, and you'll soon find yourself paying full retail prices after everyone has slammed their doors in your face.

Equally amazing is the sense of entitlement some business owners have for keeping above market profit margins. Oh, but they're the poor business owner trying to protect themselves, while castigating consumers (whom they rely on) for doing the consumer equivalent of exactly the same thing.

And guess what - BOTH are "entitled" to do that. It's called business. If you wish to defend your right to alienate potential customers by being an ******, that's your right just as much as it is any consumer's right to ask for a better deal. Don't like it, go somewhere else or make a career change.

Good retort.

So can you tell me how much paid and how you did this? Possibly post a screenshot of your customer order? Please!? So, I can get apple to do the same. PLEASE!

I feel the same way I saved 250.00 in total with ED discount and one call to Apple.

Question for you guys that seem to know how to save money ...

would this be possible

MacMall sells a 11 inch with 64GB and 4GB for $1,079.00 with is 2% less then apple sells it for then with apple insider promo the cost is $1,046.63 so all in all you save 5%

now there is a site called big crumbs that has 2.4% cash back all purchases at mac mall

so would one be able to use big crumbs to play for the above price of 5% and get 2.4% on top of that?

I have deal with MacMall in the past. I got the product, but had to wait around at that time for a rebate. I did receive eventualy, but the level of customer service is different than Apples.

MacMall is a business looking to make a profit off selling Apple products. Apple designs the products and could care less if you buy it from them or not. Eventualy, the consumer looking to purchase an Apple product will get an Apple product. Apple wins.

MacMall will try to upsell you and will offer you everything trying to make a larger sale. Its just a completely different shopping experience.

Everyone has the right to make a buck in this country. If Apple is price matching, I am sure they are doing it to satisy demand. I can see why MacMall employes get mad on fourms and try and prove their point of view.

The internet is killing small business everwhere because of overhead costs. This will only be corrected by a new tax code or some type of internet purchase taxation. Look at the state of California. I am sure if they were pulling in tax revenue due to them by out of state and undeclared purchases, they might have a snowballs chance to turn thing around. Im sure even if you had to pay tax, purchasing a TV $500-$1000+ less than the box store would still be a deal... right?

Yes, the customer is always right. However, they don't always have to like what they hear. They have they cash to spend, and its their right to spend it they way they wish.

keep thinking whatever you want to think, man. the truth is that customers will go where ever they get the best value (and that includes product, money exchanged, and sales experience). when your business fails because you're an *******, you will know why. hint: it's because you're an *******.

i just retroactively got my $200 discount from apple on the ultimate 13" MBA. if i hadn't, no big deal. i return and buy from macmall. and continue to buy my apple products from macmall, and apple loses out on my business and all my recommended business. macmall wins. but apple, like any successful business, knows that i've bought 3 iphones, 2 macbook pros, 2 airs, etc from them in recent years, and they want to keep my business. contrary to your judgmental opinion, i've never had a problem with them (beyond my 8600m GT needing 4 repairs, but that's nvidia's fault), and i continue to not have a problem with them. i spent 10 minutes on the phone and everyone is happy. i get my discount, and the satisfaction knowing that apple values me as a customer, and apple gets my continued patronage.

so you should probably think hard about what you keep saying here. customers shouldn't try to maximize the value of their purchases? this is a very fundamental concept of capitalism that you are undermining.

as for "big bad" business trying to make money off me, i don't have a problem with that. it's their nature, and their very purpose on this earth. just as it's my purpose as a some-time consumer to reward the businesses that best cater to my needs, whatever those needs may be. i guarantee you that no matter what industry you're in, your business would not be one of them. like i said... that's why apple is apple, best buy is best buy, and you are mattb79 posting angry rants about your non-success on macrumors.

I've been reading this Thread with some amazement. We all have to remember businesses have to make money. If not, we all will be unemployed. How would you like your boss to come to you and say "Because all our customers are wanting discounts we now have to cut your salary or commission by 5 or 10 percent to afford this." ? Wether we like it or not, it IS The bottom line.

As far as Apple loosing out if they don't give the discount....wake up...they don't. They still are selling the machine and still making their profit. Apple retail is most likely set up to make it's share of profits, just like Mac Mall or Best Buy. How do you think they afford such great locations in malls and other great retail areas.

I was one of the folks that bought the first iPhone when it first came out. I had the pleasure of using it for a few months before they lowered the price. It was MY Choice to pay the high price I did when I bought it. I loved having the phone first. I paid the premium. Did I expect Apple to give me money back because it lowered the price. NO. I was surprised and elated when I did receive a 100 dollar gift card and very appreciative.

I had to have the new MB Air when it first came out. I was willing to pay the price and happy that my Apple Store had it to sell to me. IT was my MY Choice.

This constant desire to have the lowest price possible and time spent to find it will wind up costing not only that consumer in time, which is money....but if they go from store to store...gas and just this constant feeling of never being satisfied. I also think it will force retail stores and manufacturers going back to retail pricing. Today it's referred to MAP Pricing. Where customers can not go below a certain price.

As far as Mac Mall goes. My experience with them was not positive. I had bought a macbook pro and was to get a rebate. To get that rebate was a big hassle. They were high pressure trying to sell me lots of extras. I much prefer Mac Connection, but hate to wait even a day when the Apple Store is only a 10 minute drive, and yes I wouldn't pay taxes if I ordered from Mac Connection, but I know my sales tax goes back to my state. WE need the money!

Anyway, sorry for this long post....My thoughts, don't get caught up with the discount, think of who you buy your stuff from. Do they treat you well? Did you get what you wanted? Then be happy. Businesses have to make a profit. A healthy profit. If not, they won't be here long term.

Those of you that are getting apple to Price Match Macmall/other authorized resellers, what's your trick? Are you speaking with sales reps before placing your orders, or are you speaking with order support/customer service after ordering online?

I tried speaking with an Apple rep today prior to order a new Macbook Air 11.6" ultimate for my sister, and they wouldn't offer any price matching. My sister's university book store sells the ultimate for $1259 (11.6/1.6/4GB/128 SSD) and the Apple EDU store charges $1329 for the same configuration. Her bookstore gets her an additional 70$ savings, but she has around $400 in Apple gift cards that she wants to spend. Your advice is always appreciated.

Thanks!

Apple vs Macmall

I used the link on appleinsider.com for the discounted MacBook Air and I then called the Apple store and gave them the link to verify the discounted price. They said they could not match the price but said they would give me 5% off my total order. I ordered a Macbook Air 13", 256GB flash drive, 4GB ram, and iwork. They sold it to with 5% off which is less than the student discounted price.

I attempted to order earlier this week about 2 hours before the shipping cutoff. Naturally, my credit card company's fraud alert went off and the order didn't go through. I was a little annoyed that the e-mail from MacMall came right as they closed for the day, but my next call was to my credit card company. After I sorted it out with them, I re-ordered and it shipped the next day.

How did you do that? I called apple and although they do price matching, they won't waive the tax for me...
