If the other person in your contact already has your contact photo saved from previously, it won’t work. You’ll need to update their new contact photo and poster. This is how I got it to work, hope it helps for you guys too.

I put photos....

What I don’t understand is why it lets you add multiple Poster for one person? The whole settings are just strange. Reminds me of how weird it is to set up a Wallpaper since iOS 16.

The photo of the unicorn is an example when I called my friend and the photos where it says Javi Lopez is how I made it work for all my contacts. you only need a contact card
There are too many issues with this feature, when I created my contact poster on Tuesday my wife didn't see anything and then I went into her Contacts app and had to select update "Contact Photo & Poster" under my contact.
Once I did that she was able to see my contact poster. My wife only has a nickname for me under my contact in her phone and when I call her it shows my contact poster with the font and color I selected BUT it shows my nickname instead of my full name the way I see it for my contact poster on my phone which was interesting.
This feature is such a headache and I'm wondering if every contact will need to manually update the "Contact Photo & Poster" option under each contact that created a contact poster?
I don’t know if it’s been said or not or if it applies to you but if you have multiple phone numbers associated with your Apple ID it won’t let you use it. I have two phones. One work/business and a personal. Use same Apple ID between both and it’s screwed me from using this now until they resolve this

Agreed. There are too many specific conditions required to make it work reliably. People will soon get fed up. They simply do not have the time.
So my friend turned off her VPN and it started showing up for her immediately. When she turned it back on the poster went back to displaying a small circle on the top left hand corner and my name in an ugly font..

I certainly hope this is not the solution ... surely apple would not want me to have to call all my friends and say 'please can you change my name to exactly the same way' ... what would be the whole point .... the keynote presentation said change the way you want your contact card to appear on their phones ... so regardless of how they have saved my name it should technically override it unless they 'choose' to not update the new details of mine..

I think you didn't understand the message in (your phone has to have the same name) how did you save your friend it doesn't matter hahahaha
My name is Javi- in my contact is Javi and the contact poster is Javi
And Before in my conctact is Fran and conctact poster Javi that's why it didn't work

Agreed. The multiple contact posters is confusing because it's not just a case of using the one you feel like on a particular day as the other person has to accept the change for it to show their end. This makes having the ability to have multiple ones pointless.
Apple needs to rethink their approach to this and sort out the back end so that 'it just works' because right now it's a mess. Definitely a feature that should not have been released yet.
When I phone my other half, he gets my poster but not with the name as I typed it, he has my name as it is in his contacts (but in the font colour and style of my own contact poster) and he gets the image.
When he calls me I now just get a grey screen with a tiny circle showing his photo next to his name.
Both on iOS 17.

I was going to set up a load of my contacts with a Memoji as a contact poster, unfortunately, and as this is quite time consuming, I made a test contact, let iCloud update then turned off contacts in iCloud deleted all contacts and turned it back on… so the contacts sync back onto my phone and unfortunately it only uploads the contact photo into iCloud and not the poster, so essentially whenever you upgrade your phone you are back with just contact photos and no posters.
Apple must be trying to save space on their iCloud servers by not storing contact posters on there. Shame really.

Yeah sorted for me. Still needed to set the contact up to ‘update automatically’
updated to 17.0.1 and it has fixed the issue for me.. I had to tap on my Friends photo from iMessage.. then click on 'Contact Poster' and click on 'update automatically' and it worked. Where are as before it didn't show me anything as such. Hope this is the fix!
17.0.1 fixed the issue for us too. Updated both phones, and it worked perfectly after that.
