Not that I needed convincing but that shows me how Apple will have no problems when it comes to Flash in a year or two. Future flash will all be deployed using HTML5 instead of the plugin, Adobe will still get revenue from lazy developers who don't want to use CSS3+Javascript -- everybody wins!

Hmm, maybe Firefox on the Mac is not as well optimised as it could be. On my work PC it had the CPU cores at 50-60% (each, dual-core). The whole point here is that optimisation of the renderer is now out of Adobe's hands and into a competitive marketplace. Apple, Google and Mozilla are in a fairly hot competition to provide better, faster, more efficient renderers. In the end that can only benefit us all.

Here's hoping... Just tried the same page on my 3GS - it was like a slideshow!
 
Wow literally 20 seconds on that 2advanced site from the time it starts loading until you click anything.

Reminds me of the good old days of 300 baud modems.


Someone might want to convey the menu that Google uses page load time as part of their tools for ranking the usability of a site.

Taking 20 seconds before you can actually do anything on a webpage is pretty much going to score them a zero on that scale.

Unless their business is making big annoying flash web sites, that is a horrible website for a business.
 
Thats funny because 2Advanced, BigSpaceship, and the like consistently win awards for what they design, and i would imagine probably could care less about google rankings due to their popularity alone in the design community.

Just tried this on my new 22" IMAC and yes it eats the cpu like a hog on both Firefox and Safari.

I think people forget that this is animation we are talking about here. It is going to eat the cpu no matter how you look at it. You cannot calculate that much data without using the cpu. Animation is animation. Lets not forget that both Flash and Javascript are scripting languages and not a true language like C ++. They are both going to be equally slow when you start to get very complex calculations. Flash will get better because Adobe now has a vested interest in making Flash run better but there is only so much you can do to make a programming language run in a browser. It will never ever be as good as a native application. The same will be true of javascript in HTML 5. There is only so much you can do about the performance running inside of a browser.

Yeah, my 1st gen ipod touch almost blew up in my hand before it shut down.
 
I love this thread. It shows a little desperation to prove how flash isn't needed.

Quick - let's rally the troops and show everyone how much you can do without flash so them naysayer's 'ill be convinced

I don't think Firefox supports HTML5. I think only Safari and Chrome do. I also don't think all of its specs are "approved" or whatever.

Actually, I liken it more to "Quick, let me justify to myself the gobs of money I'm going to throw at Apple for an inferior product."

I'm sorry people, I love Apple and want to see them succeed, but the iPad is nothing but epic fail at this point.
