Week 23.

I don't know about the moos or heat issues, but everything seems ok.

Only problem is the trackpad button. It doesn't work nearly as well on the right side of the button as it does in the middle or left side. It doesn't even make a noise when you press down on the right side, which is strange. At least you hear a noise when pressing down anywhere else.

I also have 4H6240 and mine is perfect. I can hear the hard drive spinning up occasionally, but it;s a hard drive I put in, not the one apple gave me. So if there is a correlation then your macbook should be wonderful.

Week 24 for me. No noticable moo, but it does get rather hot, not unbearable though. Also, the very top of the screen had a split that opened about .5mm. I pushed it back and it hasn't separated since.

No whine, but definitely a MOO. Fixed that with some new thermal paste. Still does the moo at around 70 degrees, but now its very hard to find an application combo that will get it exactly around that threshold. Otherwise everything seems good.

Nice, keep them coming!

So far it seems that the quality of the macbooks after week 21 have been alot better, alot less people report problems on week 22,23,24... So this might be a sign of Apple fixing some problems that where occuring in the earlier versions..

And can i assume that everyone has Downloaded the updates?

When looking at the appropriate tab in Activity Monitor, what percentage of processor usage corresponds to a computer being under a high load?

week 24 here...it has a slight whine which I can only hear within a couple of inches from the keyboard, and it does moo from time to time but its not nearly as offensive as I thought it would be based on the posts here.

Currently, Im very happy with my macbook its nearly silent and does its job so well...I also love that apple has made the sleep light less intense so I dont have to cover it up when Im trying to sleep.

the options...

ok, I'm not looking to complain, but I just want to know what the options are for people who have defects.

as I said, I have both a soft whine and a soft moo. The latter doesn't really bother me; the former is a real annoyance. my choices seem to be:
- hope that apple can/will fix the whine via firmware update
- hope that applecare can/will fix the whine on a given macbook
- sell the macbook and buy another one, hoping it doesn't whine
- sell the macbook and keep my ibook, waiting until apple irons these issues out completely before buying another macbook

obviously, the best option is apple fixing this via firmware update. But is that likely/possible?

second best would be applecare fixing it, but has anyone actually sent in a whining macbook and gotten it back fixed?

Two Macbooks so far:

Week 21: loud moo, whine from CPU and power adapter, scratched battery

Week 24: louder fan, kicks in much later (over 70°C), rare but loud moo, annoying whine, down arrow button sometimes not responding

Thanks Apple for making Macbook buying a real lottery. I'm not going to order a third machine. The chance you get a 100% flawless Macbook which stays flawless for the time you own it is in my opinion EXTREMELY low.

Yeah this entire MBP and MB problem trend turned me off from Apple laptops for awhile. Too bad as well :(

more people post! this is kinda interesting...and i'm wavering on buying one so if it looks good, i'm planning on way-exaggerating the stats and telling myself it's "safe" to get one

It clearly makes one more reluctant to hand over the credit card, especially when no indications are given that the assorted problems cited are high on Apple's list of items to resolve.

when did you replace your book? If you replace it, do they purposely give you one from the same week, or is the macbook a crapshoot as to what week it was manufactured? (at least with a couple weeks...i know you're not going to get a week 1 if you buy it now)

Week 24 blackbook here, seems perfect. No problems so far. No excessive heat. No mooing. Reading all my media.

It was a replacement for my Week21 White book which seemed perfect in every respect except it couldnt read ANY discs I put in it.
