when did you replace your book? If you replace it, do they purposely give you one from the same week, or is the macbook a crapshoot as to what week it was manufactured? (at least with a couple weeks...i know you're not going to get a week 1 if you buy it now)

I seriously doubt the guy who replaced it for me did that. When he first brought it out, I asked when was it manufactered. He seemed to have a i dunno look and where would i begin to find out.

I have a week 21 Macbook. It moos. Mostly the soft moo, and sometimes the real cow-like one. It also makes a constant faint sound that I assume is the whine. It's all annoying. Hoping for firmware fix since Apple customer service in Australia is terrible.

Picked up my Macbook (Black) from the local Apple store on Saturday. It was a week 21, and I was a bit nervous. Been using it a decent bit the past couple days, and I seemed to have lucked out for the most part. Haven't heard any moo or whine. Or at least if there is a moo, it's too silent to notice. I can't even hear the fan until it's going full tilt with CoreDuo reporting over 70 degrees or so. My power adapter sizzles though, so I'll be swapping that out this week. Also, the bottom of the machine does get very warm/kind of hot at times, oddly not necessarily coinciding with the Core temperature. The processor itself idles anywhere between 52 and 68 degrees. I'm planning on giving it the Arctic Silver 5 treatment here soon enough...from what I've been reading it doesn't always necessarily lower the temps, but at least increases the heat transfer and cools the case off a bit.

Hey I just ordered a Macbook Pro Sunday and I was just wondering if the Order Number they give you contains the Week Number of the laptop you're going to get when they ship it to you. I was wondering because the first three digits of my order number are W21, I don't want to post the rest on the internet obviously lol but can anyone shed some insight onto this?

Since I bought this from the online Apple Store, wouldn't I get close to a week 26, etc?

An awesome place
Has anybody with the "Moo" fan noise reset their PMU yet?

As per Apple's support site:

MacBook, MacBook Pro

1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

I would be interested in reports of what if anything this does to solve the issue.

Thank you

I reset the PMU the same day I bought my MacBook. While I didn't notice any mooing before the reset (and I haven't since), I did see temps go down a couple degrees on average. Nothing much, at the most 2-3 degrees C.
