Hey...I think everybody else needs to calm down and stop siding with Apple just because they make a cool product that you like. It doesn't mean their business practices are fair.

Also, when I say that i KNOW Amex will resolve this, it's because I know for sure with 100% certainty that they will. I cannot speak to how they will at this point, but I will discuss that later. And I never said anything about Amex not doing business with Apple anymore, or anything like that. I don't even believe that Amex will force Apple to sell me the product. There are other ways around this situation for them, and they'll do what they have to to make it right, and probably without pissing off Apple.

AMEX isn't doing ****. You're a GIFT CARD holder, not a card holder. Apple's policy is good-intentioned but poorly executed. I don't fully agree with it but I understand it. You clearly do not nor do you seem to have any real understanding of why you being turned away by Apple means little. Howver, and I speak from professional experience, when a large public company is faced with a hell bent person who feels eternally wronged by a PRE-ANNOUNCED policy, they may bend. Not because they were wrong but because it's easier to sqaush a little rat with something like an iPad than it is to have to listen to them further.

You're making waves or trying to over something you did wrong. There was a policy and you think you're above it. That's fine but in the time you've spent here bitching about this you could have gone and bought an iPad with a credit card.

Your right OP, AMEX will. They have been my favorite company to do business with for 19 years. They treat me right, they have always been fair, and they have taken care of some charges for me in the past.

Suffice to say, that I believe this is total BS on 's part. Limiting sales for scalping the product is one thing; playing games is another.

For those who keep preaching "private store" they can do whatever they want... umm last time I checked they were a public company. This does not stop them from running the show the way they see fit; but you start bending the CC contract rules and people are going to be pissed- like the OP.

AMEX/Visa/MC all have their terms and conditions too people. What, people think that because Apple is so big, AMEX will look the other way with these practices? Maybe, maybe not. I know one thing, AMEX was not to pleased a few years back issuing their platinum cardholders $200 Refunds for Apples iPhone price drop fiasco.

Anyhow, Good luck OP- I am confident (very) that as Long as AMEX is in your corner- you will prevail- some how, some way.

At minimum the OP should get a check back from Amex as he couldn't redeem the gift card as Amex advertises.

However. I'm sure after a few calls Amex might attempt to call the local retail store telling them they can't reject Amex gift cards. How Amex handles this is up to them. I constantly get pissed when I see retail stores impose a $ limit on cc purchases. I sometimes rant to them but I know they are just clerks. I could report to Amex but Its not worth my time. I just don't shop there again.

Good luck to the op. I hope the right Amex rep gets a hold of your complaint and takes appropriate Action.

Thank you. And again, when I say I KNOW Amex will resolve this, it's because I do know....not just guessing. I'll explain more after it's complete.

If you are hell bent on getting that iPad with your Amex gift card, then wait a couple of weeks until Apple releases their restrictions on how people can pay for their iPads.

If you read the terms and conditions, it states: "We are not responsible or liable to you (i) for any interruption of Card service, (ii) for the quality, safety, legality, or any other aspect of any goods or services purchased from any Merchant with the Card, (iii) if any Merchant refuses to honor the Card or special offers and/or (iv) for any other problems you may have with any Merchant."

This means that Amex is not responsible for merchants that do not accept the card. Besides, Apple will accept the card for other items in the store, so it is not like Apple is refusing the Amex card completely.

Anyways, by the time Amex gets this resolved, Apple would have removed the CC restriction and you will be able to use your gift card. You may have better luck getting one from Best Buy ( not sure if they had a CC restriction on their purchases )

Solved..

Amex refunds OP gift card.
Apple continues fighting the good fight against people who want to take advantage of others by reselling in demand items.
It's been fun!
