Already three days in a row since ios 8.2 and no crack noise
Again, i remember that at least twice a day i heard that sound until ios 8.2

I updated to 8.2 on release day last monday. Tried the known methods to provoke a pop during the following days but nothing happened.
Well, on friday it popped again after almost 4 days without any problems and now it's pretty easy to provoke the pops again.
Conclusion: 8.2 definitely did not fix it on my iPop Air 2.

There are people who assure their ipads 2 doesn't pop what do you guys think about that?

IMO all pop, but that's just my personal impression so far.

I'm almost certain the problem is with hardware as the frequency of the popping noise has increased from a few times a day to upwards of a dozen times. I'm getting them on average of once per hour, usually in spurts of a large number in a 15 minute period, followed by very few or none for several hours.

The question I have is have Apple fixed the problem yet? From what I've read, the odds of getting a non-popping version are low. If I get my Air 2 replaced, they will give me a refurb. I wouldn't mind if it fixes the pop noise, but if it doesn't it would really annoy me.

Not only that, suppose your replacement doesn't pop, what about a bonus gift? a dead pixel, a problematic battery or just a "cosmetic issue"?...

Returning my 2nd iPad Air 2 today-- it popped while it (and I) were asleep with the cover on! That's it, I'm not going to be awoken in the middle of the night with a POP! Will give me nightmares! I'll try an Android until the next version of the iPop comes out.

Or, why not try an Air 1? It's a great tablet and doesn't suffer from these niggling issues that the Air 2 does. They can be bought at great prices right now too. Just a thought.

i know i'm not calvol but want to give my opinion: why getting a more than 1 year old device when you cant get the 2 with 2GB RAM?

I know, i know the bloody thing pops but personally i don't consider the 1 an option anymore, better wait for the 3.

Last week Best Buy was selling the original Air for $299. That's $200 difference between the Air and Air 2 and the Air is still a nice tablet.

Yes i think it is but only valid for the people in the States, personally i wouldn't buy it, 7 months only for the ipad air 3....and by that time that device is gonna be 2 years old already.

Thought about it, but the Air 1 has the low-RAM issue (random tab refreshing), and is much heavier, so I just bought a cheap Android tab for $140, and will wait another 6 months or so till Air 3 comes out. Hopefully that one will be a keeper!

With regards to the pop sound I've noticed when I turned off the lock sounds and keyboard click under settings and sounds at bottom of that screen that the issues stops or at the very least it did for my iPad air 2 16GB wifi.

That's because the pops can occur when the air 2 plays any sound. Turning off lock and keyboard sounds makes pops less likely to occur, but doesn't eliminate them.

Exactly, mine has pop even when reading an ebook in complete silence.

I experienced the pop noise. I could even reproduce it moving the ringer and alerts slider.

I shut off keyboard clicks and lock sounds (read this tip on the Apple forums) and no more pop noises. I'm a heavy user, so I easily pick up on the pop sound.

I should have turned off these two along time ago. Less noise. Haha

This makes me believe it's software related. I've also emailed my feedback to Apple and Tim Cook. Hopefully everyone is emailing Apple.

But that's not a solution for everybody i find pretty useful to hear the close notification when i close the smart case, that's telling me the device is on stand by and not turned on.

Also as Morac stated:

For me the pop has happened when reading an ebook in complete silence!

It's Hardware related.

Never said it was a solution for everybody. It's worked for me thus far and I'm fine not using those two features.

If I should experience a pop, with these two features off, I'll have no problem posting back here reporting it.

It very well could be a hardware issue, but it could be a software issue as well. No one truly knows for certain, as it's all pure speculation up to this point.

and i've never meant that you said it, pretty much it's me who is saying it, i've been monitoring that Apple thread too and that was the last post currently, that's not even a solution.

Do you still have hope that this can be corrected via sofware? I lost mine after patch 3.1 and 3.2, pretty much.

Using pretty much my logic this is a hardware issue, yeah i'm not Apple but come on i'm not waiting for an ipod touch 6 here still like some users are, you know what i mean...If this was a software issue pretty much it would have been corrected already after 5 months...

I like this post there, the guy knows what is talking about and seems to me pretty logic:

Calvol: Yep, if a product has a hardware issue, most consumer electronic firms will not make a component change after about the middle of the product cycle. They put resources on the next version, rather than fix the current version, as long as sales aren't impacted significantly. Apple either doesn't have the resources to fix it, and/or has moved on to getting the 12" iPad out the door without the pop. I was hoping for a "silent" hardware fix, but if Week 5 units are still popping, I don't think it will ever be fixed in this Air 2 version.

I think this is a hardware fault in the DSP circuit or chip, specifically in the D/A converter. I've seen this problem in audio conferencing products (e.g.. Polycomm), and radios (ICOM), where the DSP buffers cannot handle a steep transient, the buffers overflow, and you get a "pop", e.g. when the buffers clear memory-- going from 11111111 to 00000000, e.g. on a 8-bit system-- POP! It could be a memory register fault in the DSP memory, the DSP algorithm itself (sb fixable), or the DSP silicon (the worst case). Also, somehow this is related to battery charge and sleep state-- which points to a memory buffer issue, probably in silicon. Wish I could see the PR list of the DSP chip provider!

And that's pretty much a hardware issue...

..If this was a software issue pretty much it would have been corrected already after 5 months.....

Just like all the other known iOS 8 bugs that haven't been corrected in five months?

You can accept the word of any user here as fact. All I'm saying is, in my case, turning off those two features have made the pop disappear on my device. That's why I believe it's software related.

If my device starts popping again, I would tend to agree it's hardware related. I used it heavily yesterday and no pops. I could always count on pops during the day and I would pick up on every one. I could even trigger a pop with ringer and alerts. No longer. So for me specifically, that's very promising.

I'm holding out some hope it can be addressed via a software update. Regardless, it's an awesome device and I don't regret buying it. :)

This is not simple software bug issue, you can hear a pretty loud noise here, you can even feel it through the chasis.

and you can believe whatever you want too, i mean we are both free to do that.

But turning off those features doesn't mean this is a software issue necessarily at the end, ok that doesn't mean it is a hardware one either, ok, i'll give you that.

All those pops have put me in a pretty bad mood i DO REGRET having buyin it.

I hear you and understand your frustration and yes, it could be hardware related. But, I'm hoping it's software related. Keep the faith. :)

Just got a ipad mini 2 from my cable provider and the speakers sound like their blown compared to my ipad 2. Makes me feel like I got some cheap android tablet compared to my ipad 2

ios 8.3 out guys....for those who still think this can be corrected via software.

Early results on mine and a couple of other people on the Apple Support thread for this issue are very positive. The known way to trigger the speaker pop doesn't produce the popping sound anymore. It's early for sure, but encouraging.
