Just a warning dudes. Check it out.

This certainly applies to their iMac Dual Core memory chips, completely ridiculous, we are talking here 84% more (that is $350 versus $180) than any other reputable online vendor.
Out of their mind !?!?!?!?!

Can you give me a link to the reputable source for 2 1GB chips for $180?

Note also that you could save ~$20 by buying two 1GB chips @$165 ea instead of the kit.

NVM: Found the other thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/201818/

You can get matched chips from OWC for 225, and they guarantee it will work with your Mac, in case your worried about potential issues.

OK, well mention it again, since you saw fit to start a new thread. What vendors are you basing your comparison on? I'll agree that Crucial is generally higher, but when I have 8GBs of the stuff to worry about failing, I'll pay a little more.

That said, OWC and Data Memory Systems are also good vendors. Can't speak for NewEgg - haven't ordered any form there.

Negative. Do your own search.

I see you point and understand it, even though we are not talking "a little more" here. But I could not argue with anyone's "safety and piece of mind concerns", those are personal :)

My arguments are usually along those lines, actually always. In fact, as I have noted on another thread, I would rather pay a little more and get it all done at apple than shop around, my time is money, in fact that is exactly what I had decided to do.......But hey, again, 84% more to me is not even close to reasonable, in fact, I nearly feel insulted.

That's strange that the USD prices of Crucial is so high, while the Euro prices are very competitive. A couple of months ago I ordered 2x 1GB sticks for my dual G5. The price in USD was over 300, the price in Euros was under 200 (incl. tax and shipping). I didn't get it, but just ordered it, couldn't let that deal pass by!

Different Mem. Crucial EU is VERY expensive for the new intel imac/macbook/macbookpro memory.

Anyhow, I will be getting my 2gb tonight. I will let you know how it works out.

Less than useful reply. If you are going to start a thread and make a comparison, then post the link you are comparing to. Don't tell us to do our own search.

There is a bunch of DDR2 memory on the market now at US$70-80 per Gb. The more honest among the sellers admit that the RAM is not stable in a MacBook Pro and they recommend you buy their $ 120 RAM. The good RAM I have seen is all around the US$110-$120 mark.

I waded through the other thread, and the single relevant reference I found was RAM at NewEgg for $180 -- As we have beaten to death already here, PC Generic RAM that has no compatibility guarantee is not comparable to RAM from a company that tests and guarantees compatibility in Macs -- and who won't charge a restocking fee if their RAM doesn't work.

Don't forget.. not all ram is created equally. Check the timings. Most ddr2 modules clock in at 5-5-5-10 or 5-5-5-12. Those are the ones you are looking for if you are worried about price. These days, with 667mhz, there's 3-4-3-9, 4-3-4-10, etc. Better, and more expensive.

Where are the CAS Latency 3 and 4 SODIMM modues at 667MHz?

I've ordered plenty of things from Newegg.com. I live on the East Coast of the U.S., and Newegg gets products to me faster than any of the other major online retailers. FYI: These 1GB sticks are supposed to work well in the new Intel Mac's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820221043

Shipped to my zip code, two sticks came to $174.97

A little bit pricey

In the UK I see that 2GB of iMac Dual Core RAM is £223.24, so I got mine for only £150.36. Crucial was nearly 50% more.
Oh well, now they've got market dominance I understand they don't have to be the cheapest.

I just installed these in my macbook from newegg. Work perfectly. Crucial is WAY overrated. Save yourselves some money.

http://www.thechipmerchant.com/

was recomended by someone who also has to worry about 8GB of stuff, but I cannot say I have used them yet. I am planning my next purchase from them and last week it was almost half price for iMac Core Duo memory compared to Crucial.

you can buy crucial memory from newegg... is it the same memory that the crucial site would sell you?? the crucial memory on newegg is cheaper than the crucial memory on crucial...

this is the page for my PowerBook... (PC 2700)

Crucial Memory from Newegg...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1455&SubCategory=381

Crucial Memory from Crucial

http://www.crucial.com/store/listpa...4+1GHz+(15-inch+Display+PC2700+DDR)&submit=Go

Are these the same chips? If crucial says that their sticks work in macs for sure, then why would it be different if you buy from Newegg?

Hope this aids the discussion

Jason

EDIT: Upon further investigation, it seems their part numbers are different... so, i don't know... still a bit interesting.

EDIT 2: I don't know that $90 is worth the piece of mind seeing that you can still get a lifetime warranty... i think that may be the most important piece to look for, lifetime warranty

I noticed the prices are astronomical now. I bought my 1GB of ram for the MBP at 107 euro. Now it's about 180!

sorry to hear.

I have done what I think is useful, you disagree, fine but put a period right there, no reason to tell me what I should post and what I shouldn't. Thx.

I thought I mentioned it earlier, I am not hear to do free marketing for online vendors, but I will point out what I THINK are "absurd prices".

I understand Crucial is a sponsor here, but trust me, I don't care, rather they should.

Then why post anything?

Can I get the ten minutes I wasted on this thread back, please?

So basically you made a blanket statement with nothing to back it up.

Way to go.

Lame.

indeed. This is where some of us may differ, the piece of mind aspect that is, the lifetime warranty I really think not !!!! a computer is not an appliance and its life cycle is ridiculously short, oh well, that is my view :)

Also, for 2gb, $180 vs Crucial $361 the difference seem to me a lot more than $90 (I am only talking memory for iMac DC). And being ripped off really destroys any peace of mind in my case.

2GB matched from OWC/macsales.com is $225
Crucial is $350.16

Something doesn't add up. You can write off Crucial's price by saying not to buy from an e-tailer without Mac experience or guarantees - but when they're $125 more than a reputable Mac dealer (4GB for my G5, 1GB for my iBook from OWC), something ain't right.
