Ah, jim.arrows when I saw the "automatic" thing i realized you are using the wingui. Frankly I have never even used it before. The macgui always shows you what your tracks are right at the start. Its harder for the wingui since its actually a CLI wrapper. Anyway, enough of my rambling, glad you got it sorted out.

... and yes, good tip. always make sure you select the AC3 5.1 source if its available and not selected. If only AC 2.0 is available on your source thats all that it can pass thru.

5.1 and Xbox360 elp!

Hello all. Got the latest Handbrake and was hoping someone can
tell me which settings I need to get a DVD encoded with 5.1 to use with an Xbox 360. Tried various settings with no success....elp!

My Handbrake 0.9.2 settings are to start with the Apple TV preset. Then I change the codec so the 3rd slash is AC3 only. I didn't opt for the AAC + AC3 option b/c I only plan on watching these on my Apple TV with Digital Dolby out optical to my receiver which picks it up. Any iPhone rips will be done at a much lower bitrate and a 480x resolution to limit size to ~ 500 MB. I also selected 2 pass encoding with turbo first pass for best results. Lastly, I change the bitrate from 2500 to 1500 to drop my file size. Still getting the same 853x resolution, I can't see any difference in the image watching so far The Matrix or Fellowship of the Ring on my Samsung DLP 46" on a streaming connection. I figure the extra file size of the 2500 bitrate really isn't necessary.

dynaflash- First, thanks so much for what is one of the most useful Mac programs ever! I have a question for you - are there any plans to allow HB to encode other files besides just DVDs, like VisualHub does? I'd love to switch to using HB entirely since its so great, but still have to use VH on those one-off MKVs, mpegs, Bly-ray and other HD sources. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Well "plans" may be too strong of a word. But as soon as a dev has the time you never know. Realize that already in 0.9.2 there is very robust Program and Transport stream suppport which is nice for encoding .eyeTV files for use on your appleTV. In fact, the MacGui will open them natively without having to export them with the eyetv software. For now the main focus will always be DVD like sources and HD streams, vobs, etc.

0.9.2 will encode Ratatouille perfectly right off the disk. No problem. It *pretty much* works with dreaded 0 size/duration cell dvd's now without a hitch.

nice. because of that movie i almost was considering going through the "gift" (don't call it a donation!) swiss francs, must email from embedded mail app MTR, it was starting to feel like a nigerian scam.

if it works with shoot em up as well you made my day.

Wait, hang on, backup...so...are you saying that I can use HB to convert HD .TS files?

Hmmm... I just tried loading up a .TS file I had that's a 5.34GB Stargate episode. HB seems to attempt to load it in, it starts scanning it, but then says "No valid source found." So I guess not... Am I missing something... does HB really do HDTV sources right now (Other than .eyeTV ones)?

Yep. it has come along way since 0.9.1. We have several devs and testers that us it for program streams all of the time, ts streams as well. I personally have never used it for a ts stream but I know some have. I use it all of the time for Program Streams from my eyetv hybrid. Nice to have that HD source running through HB to be sure. Couldnt really say why its not reading your properly. Feel free to post in the HB - Mac forum and paste in your log . I will look for it. Maybe try just for kicks opening it up in mpegstreamclip and then export it as a program stream just to see if HB can read it if you want.

I just used the OSX version on my new Mini, now I see why you must have thought I was a complete idiot when you thought I was using your GUI -- it couldn't be clearer with the drop-down box, and was exactly what I was suggesting for the Windows version... although now I don't care, since I get to use your version! Excellent work, kudos!!
