I am saying for me. I personally don't find the camera upgrades worth it. The only thing I would be upgrading for is a bigger screen.
That's what I thinking, but my pocket friendly X, and maybe the Xr not much bigger, carrying the plus was ok, but definitely more awkward.
The other thing is there is no more headphone dongle included, which I still use BTW, and the same crappy 5w charger. What a joke for such an expensive phone.
It is, to still pack this for these, does the Max still come with 5W? Very poor for a £1500 phone!

I don't mind the Max size so much and I still might upgrade, but I am less tempted this year than most.

Been looking at physical sizes. I'm surprised how close the Max and Xr are tbh, although needs in hand testing suppose to be sure

They are. At this point the Max is a luxury purchase for those who can afford and are willing to splash that much on a phone. That's why Apple offered the Xr, so that customers don't have to spend big bucks to get a screen bigger than the Xs.

If Apple had introduced a 128gb XS as the entry level £999 phone this year I'd have upgraded to it but nothing about the XS is a must have upgrade. I'll sit out this year's IUP and consider upgrading next year.

So if if do go to the Xr on my iUP with my X, will I just hand it my X and then get lower payments?

Maybe more worth it to pay off the X plan and sell it?

Really don't think I'll go to the Xs and until I see the Xs Max I'm unsure of its size.

Personally I am upgrading to the XR. Yes, I consider it an upgrade. Some people will laugh and say it’s a downgrade, I disagree.

1) as a huge plus model fan, I have regretted my X purchase since pretty soon after purchase
2) the XR is cheaper AND the screen is larger (their current sizing lineup with pricing makes zero sense)
3) I could care less about the slight downgrade in camera and the LCD screen.
4). It literally has the same internals and that’s what matters to me (well except ram, but that’s it)

I wanted to want the max, but it doesn’t have the features I want for a good value price. That’s why i would rather get the XR this year, pay less for the next year every month, and then next year if a “real max” is released I would consider it.

Until then, I’ll be happy with my larger and cheaper XR.

Not upgrading this year. The XS does not have nearly enough features to make it worth it and no cares for the Max.

The only reason I upgraded to the Max was because I just switched carriers and am still within the 14 day return window on my iPhone X.

Pre-ordered a 64gb space gray and will set up the return on the 64gb X that I am using now in the morning. I have 14 days to get it to fedex after I schedule the return, so I’ll use it until next Friday when the max arrives.

Since I ported my number over, ole’ Xfinity gives me 300.00 back, so that’s a nice bit off of the iPhone Xs Max (it still qualifies).

Headed to Apple’s site after ordering the phone and picked up a horizon blue case for it.

Most of the reasons I'm thinking of going to the Xr. Haven't regretted the X but the Xs isn't anything for me, Max unsure of size. As you say the Xr strangely has same internals for the "cheaper" iPhone.

No way would I go to xr from X - would rather keep my x or if upgrading for for the max with even more screen than xr. OLED all the way.

I bought the X and I’m upgrading to the Xs Max. I’ve always have gotten the plus. I was hoping the X came in the plus size. Finally, it does and I’ll have it in my hand on Sep. 21 as my Apple pre-order shows.

This is where I'm at. I always had a plus phone and I miss the larger size due to my usage at work. I'm just on the fence due to the cost. I'm not real happy with where phone pricing has gone. I've thought about going Android but I just don't think I can, and I'm pretty happy with my iPhone's in general.

Each year I have a harder time upgrading because of the increased cost. I could hold onto my X for another year and then hopefully grab an Xs Max then at a discount hopefully.

Yeah, they are creating a very weird market with their current offerings.

The cheaper phone has the same insides, and a bigger screen....just less quality of a screen.

Now, if you want the smallest phone, its more expensive. It’s super odd.....

See, this is where I was at. I intended on going to a max this year, but it doesn’t have the features worth the cost. That’s why I decided to go to the XR this year, save money over the next year, and then either get a cheaper year 1 max, or get next years max that should have a 3rd camera lens, and the other missing features from this year.

At least with the XR you are still getting a larger screen. I could care less if its OLED, or if the PPI is less. It’s a 6.1” screen. I don’t need it to be higher quality than a large television.

Gina buy a second hand X in a few weeks. OLED not good for my eyes but gona try it out as I love the form factor of the X. It's still very expensive (for me) so in a couple of weeks when the XS comes to the stores the price will drop significantly.

If I can't deal with the OLED panel,I'll buy an iPhone 8(plus) and wait for the XR to drop second hand on the marketplace here in Holland.

Currently on a moto g6 plus and I hate it.

First time in long time haven't bought on launch day, as others have said it's a strange line up with specs etc.

I really think the Xr is going to be a big seller. Also hope they have a lot ready for purchase, and I think they've on purpose delayed the Xr launch by a month.

Looking forward to seeing what the LCD and OLED look like in an Apple store, glad they've kept the tap to wake up on the Xr really used to that on my X. Thing about the Xr I'm a little worried on is the resolution and PPI is a lot lower than my current X, and the new Xs.

Looking at the vote not many current X owners going for the Xr though

I'm upgrading from the X to the Xs Max. I like the edge to edge screen and Face ID instead of Touch ID on the X but I miss the bigger screen size. The Xs Max gives me the edge to edge plus the Face Id and also the bigger screen of the plus models. It will take some getting use to going back to the plus size after upgrading from the 7 Plus to the X but I'm sure I will get use to it. The additional new features of the Xs Max are a bonus for me.

I was not too impressed from 7+ to X last year. I am going to play with the Xs Max before deciding if I should buy.

I'm keeping my X and not upgrading. If I was going to upgrade, it would be to the XS Max. And while I've never been in love with the X screen size (wish it was bigger), I cannot justify the ridiculous price of the XS Max phone. It's absurd that a phone can cost over $1700 with taxes.

And this year's lineup? Stupid names with nothing really on offer over my X except stereo sound recording on video... who cares.

Smartphones are getting to be like a cancer. Some toxic aspects of their manufacturing and disposal pollute the planet and companies like Apple just want to keep peddling them every year to keep people buying and buying. The mining for raw materials... and the amount of money these things cost is getting insane. Not just the upfront cost now, but the money per month to carry a phone plan. To me, Apple is getting extremely greedy and these prices are beyond the inflection point where they may see diminishing returns.

They've lost me, and I'm staying with the X. I bought the Watch 4 and will upgrade my iPad to the new thin bezeled one coming out soon.

I usually only log into this site whenever there’s a new iPhone release as I enjoy joining in the hype and all. I’ve upgraded every year since the 5 came out, and I’m not this. It’s kind of disappointing to be honest. Every year usually has some kind of key feature that I really want, but nothing did it for me this year. Maybe I’m just a bit less into this kind of stuff lately, but overall the X was such a huge upgrade that I’m pretty sure I can wait till next year.

I had a 7+ and then went to a X. I do miss the larger form factor so have pre-ordered a XS Max 256 GB and will give it a day or two to try but may very well send it back.

I agree with most that this isn't a huge upgrade; however, two features have allowed me to justify the crazy cost in my head: 1) better T-Mobile coverage here in the US with the additional band 71, and the dual sim since I have a UK phone SIM which can now be combined into one device).

I may very well end up sending the XS Max back for a standard XS though if it turns out to be simply too big for me.

Dude, you're crazy to pay that for a phone.
