I'd like to be an (Wood) Elf! Call me Namlit Ilphelkiir because no reason!

Of those characters, I think Wizard (Elf) would conform with my temperament best, a knowledge seeker that can be a bit clueless when dealing with mere mortals (some of whom wield weapons, both real ones and the sometimes even more dangerous….virtual ones).

Oops, sorry - I missed the part were elves are wizards.

I shall cast a shapeshifting spell and become a dwarf instead. If that is still possible!

i'll take one of the residual characters once everyone picked

We should probably go with a balanced party (2 fighters, 2 clerics, a rogue, and a magic user) although Ravenvii should be able to adjust if we all ran rogues :D

There's two things we need to do before we begin the adventure:
  • Settle on a convention for out of character (OOC) dialog -- maybe set them as italics? Or put parentheses around OOC stuff (like this)? I don't want font coloring, that's a pain, but if that's what you guys prefer, we can go with that too.
  • Choose your character! I have five ready-made characters (complete with backgrounds and all). You can choose any of them -- duplicates are fine (i.e. more than one player can choose the same starting character). Wizards of the Coast has generously provided a PDF of all characters along with their sheets here. Just choose one and pick a name (it can be something you made up, or it can be chosen from one of the suggestions).

I like either colored fonts or italics for OCC dialog. I don't think we should use quotes since that might get confusing.

I'll go with the last fighter PDF. He's human and I'll call him Claus Fletcher.

I don't mind what the convention for OOC is. Happy to go with italics.

As for my character. Would love to go for the Rogue, though happy to choose something else as this has already been taken. Character name either way will be Minluan Sterling.

Looks like, I missed the boat, but I refused to step on the boat without a better idea of the commitment. ;) That's ok, I'll follow along and see what happens. :)

seems like the last remaining is the peasant archer.
suits me well

i shall be
Ken "Titan" Barnside

that makes the group
1 wizard
1 cleric
2 rogues
2 fighters
which is a good mix

I had taken the last fighter PDF (peasant archer) so we can both be one :).

It looks more like a ranger from the 2nd edition (except he's lawful good).

My favorite alignment is chaotic good but I can run a fair lawful good. I hate running lawful neutral (boring) :).

Maybe Ravenvii can use you as the evil NPCs :D.

oh, i thought you had taken the noble leader
i can switch, although i will need a new name ;)

@Don't panic, since you said you'll take the residual, I'm giving you the Human Fighter role (the first Human in the PDF). Just give me your character's name and gender and you're all set.

@Scepticalscribe don't forget to give me your character's name and gender!

The game will begin soon with a BACKGROUND post, then we will begin our first scenario.

before we start, how are you going to implement the mechanics?
in the live game, there is a continuous back and forth and a lot of dice rolling. if we try to play like that, it would take forever to resolve even a single encounter.
how are we going to roll dice? honor system?

also, i wasn't expecting this to take off so fast, so i might have a problem this coming week: i will be skiing in the alps with my family, leave thu night and be back next sunday. access will be iffy since we will be in a hut in the mountains with no wifi.
if this is a problem, i can leave my spot to huntn, or you can have my character 'join' the group at a downstream point, when i get back (depending on where you will be then)

I rather not play and smoke a pipe all day long too!

< is that ooc or not? (Sorry, google is broken).

And sorry if i snatched your spot hutn!

In case we delay this until dp is back, I'm not that sad tbh. There are still some ww out there who might interfere our party and I mutated into a slime producing monster with the ability to self-inflict mighty headaches while still going to work.. But i'm fine either way. Not sure dp joining us later works well since he will be a low level grunt compared to us then ;)

I appreciate your offer. :)

My hesitance to join was based on ignorance of what the game entails, the basics, and how much of a commitment it represents. I asked for details but none were offered at least no one replied to my post asking about it. Please don't take this as me being angery, everything is fine.

But I'm still in the same place and since the team is assembled, I think it would be better at this point if I follow along as a spectator. Once I see the game in action, I'll have a better idea of what goes on. Hopefully you guys won't mind outsiders posting questions. :)

My preference would be to start and have the Earl meet us when he gets back. I wish to discuss with the elf, the actual airspeed of a swallow and with the dwarf, the correct way of turning lead into gold. When the Earl returns, he can then explain what nobles find entertaining about strapping pieces of wood to his legs and falling off a mountain:).
