I guess it's also human's sinful nature to think that Apple is faultless, and divine, all these problems are the result of human sin of being imperfect and loves pointing fingers...

Wow... Didn't know Apple cult survived...

Yes, Apple/Microsoft does have some issues, however, its the USER that has a lot of issues as well. Or haven't you figured that out yet ? Your not saying its only Apple are you??

Messages crossed paths … there's an edited-in apology on the previous page.

And another edit (to not waste space in this topic): the first up-vote for the macenied post below was from me. Thanks!

And another edit …

… Gosforth is lovely place. :D

I dont doubt it. Thanks for being so gracious. If ever you're in the Portslade area: it's probably not as lovely as Gosforth, but feel free to drop by and give me a P.I.T.M.

(it took me more than a week to find an excuse to post this screenshot …)

Why "the hell" did you ignore the other parts of this topic, where two or more other people asked pretty much the same thing?

Why "the hell" did you ignore an answer, which was given ten minutes before you asked the question?

Did it take you ten minutes to write "Who the hell is David A. Cox"; or were those seven words quickly typed then followed by nine-minute contemplation of how many question marks improve the end of a single sentence?

I have never knowingly been to Gosforth so I can't comment on that part of the country, and (by simply reading) I know that you're a retail manager with a notebook and a phone but beyond that, a lazy person might ask: who the hell are you and how much of a kick do you get from rushing to denigrate strangers?

There must be better things to do ;)

Apology accepted, but good god, it was just a comment mate. I simply asked who this person is, thinking he was someone everyone knew, but clearly not.

And FYI, Gosforth is lovely place. :D

Something handy for this tread ...

Love it!

.

Plus in all my years I see a disturbing feature a lot of developers are doing. They purposely make their programs break at every new version of OS X at every OS X version and charge almost full price to fix thier program (see Parallels) or charge upgrade prices almost as high as their initial cost.

As a developer, I have to say that this is starting to really annoy me and I do not agree with it at all. So many of my favourite and really useful apps are doing this. I am looking at you VMWare and Carbon Copy Cloner, especially, since they are guilty of this every year. Even though OS X upgrades are free, I end up paying quite a lot of money to keep up.

I installed Yosemite on 2 laptops. The Macbook Air installation was flawless. The Macbook Pro (early 2011) installation was problematic.

The Macbook Pro had issues with the hard drive that made installation impossible. I had to erase the HD (zeroed out, single pass) to fix the HD issue, reformat the HD and re-install Mavericks. Then I attempted again to install Yosemite and the installation was flawless from there. So any problems may not be due to Yosemite, but to the computer itself.

I think this is one of the most misunderstood features of OS X since Mavericks.

The irony is that it was changed in Mavericks because people could not understand what was going in the memory tab of Activity Monitor.

Using vm_stat in the terminal will give you the info (page outs, page ins etc) that we used to get in previous versions of OS X.

I started watching and nearly switched off when he starting comparing RAM to your kitchen counter tops.

Edit: I continued watching and it got worse. Complaining that he only had 1GB of RAM left and he was disappointed in Apple. Clearly this guy knows NOTHING about how memory management works in OS X.

… and that alone is enough to convince me that I need not bother beginning to watch the video.

We all learn through mistakes, but only some people choose to risk ridicule by exposing their lack of knowledge whilst associating their name with an educational service. 'nuff said on that.

Who is he anyway?

Dunno. You're a mate of bbfc, yes? :)

Why would I ever follow advice on a MAC OS from a guy who's wallpaper a giant text saying PC?

Past that point, I am having a wonderful experience with Y. My nMP is loving it too! Never behaved so well, never looked so stunning.

Never heard of that Cox dude either. I tried Yosemite for a day and thought it worked fine. Most of my apps--including an ancient 2007 Quicken--ran fine. Even CS5 Suite was okay after I installed java runtime. But I really didn't like the iOS look and the dumbing down of Safari into a big iPad app. When my menu bar favorites disappeared I had to spend 20 seconds googling to get to MacRumors. Turns out the favorites is buried in a windows on the side. One of my most used apps--Bias Peak Pro 7--went south in Yosemite so I figured I had enough reason to revert back to Mavericks.

Not to the Computer, to what the user did to the Computer, IMO. I see quite some postings about hard disk / partition problems when installing Yosemite.

So far, so good. But we don't know how often these disks have been cloned in the past, re-partitioned, restored, changed in size, etc. With OS X, Windows, CCC or other 3rd party tools. This is why I cannot say Yosemite makes a problem here. It just needs a clean partition table. Which I did not have as well.

I didn't do anything to the HD. it hasn't been re-partitioned, restored or changed in size. I got the Macbook Pro from my sister. She does't how to do any of that. I didn't do anything to it other than have my account set up and her account deleted.

This is what pretty much happened during installation except it said that the disk drive could not be verified and could not install Yosemite. And something about bad sectors too.

Hahahaha.

You turn on the sound feedback in System Preferences | Sound | General | Playfeed when Volume is changed.

I just fast forwarded to the end and heard him complain about that.

It invalidates the 26 minutes that I didn't watch before it for me anyhow.

WOW! I didn't mean to piss off anyone here. I bought my first MBP this summer and I have been watching David Cox video's on youtube and they have been very helpful to me. My MBP is by far the best computer I have ever owned and I'm have a ball using it. No problems with 10.9.

So what's wrong with waiting a while before updating to 10.10 to make sure major bugs have been fixed?

I have owned an iPhone 4, 5, and currently using a 6. I also own a iPad Air. No problem with any of them. All great devises.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Have a nice day.

He teaches computers to beginners, his advice will be based on reliability. I did tech support for years, its nearly impossible to teach someone to work around a bug if they don't know whats going on in the first place.

Hes recommending for his clients not to upgrade. No different then when you might tell your mother and father not to upgrade to iOS 8 which I know A LOT of people have.

You guys really think Yosemite is bug free? I find that to be a stretch even for a diehard apple fanatic. If so do you think this is really the final release of Yosemite and we won't see any updates to it from Apple?

Because it was released before it was ready for the general public. It's too buggy. I think I'll wait.

Who is he and why should I listen to him? I'm done with going to view a random person's YouTube video, just to up their views.
Yosemite is installed on my Macbook Pro and is running without issues. That's all the endorsement I need.

I don't think anyone is saying that Yosemite is not without its bugs. It has plenty of them, and i'm hopeful Apple will release the first beta of 10.10.1 pretty soon.

What people do have an issue with is the fact that this guy in the video has no understanding of how OS X works. He complains about RAM usage, when there is nothing wrong. He complains that there is no sound when you adjust the volume, yet the option is available to bring it back in settings.
