Umm. 440 Euro is two monthly payments on my top-of-the-line VW GTI, which is almost paid off. You’re probably not going to want to hear this, but I’m reasonably certain that you wouldn’t need 32 GB with your use case. This isn’t a criticism, people seem to take it personally when they’re told what they can get for cheaper is enough. I‘m using an iPad pro for most of my daily work now, not the M1 version, the 2020 version. I like it, even though the screen is a bit small for me, because I like the touch screen and the lack of a fan. It runs 200 webpage tabs even with only 6gb of RAM. Yeah, they have to reload, but it’s fine. It’s to the point to where I get grumpy when I have to haul out my 15 inch 2015, either because there’s files on there that I don’t have on the iPad, or I’m doing something the iPad can’t handle because of an iOS limitation. I also have a work-issued imac with dual displays for heavy lifting, but I really think with the use case you posted, even with video editing, 16 GB is fine. Remember, this is cash you could save for a new machine in a couple years if your new video career takes off.
I work with hi-res sound files, multiple tracks in Logic and so. I need ram, lots of ram.
And yes, I fiddle with iMovie but don’t have much spare time.
I bought a cheapo SEAT which is already paid. But I took a model with a TSI VW motor under the hood.
I like power. Nowadays 440€ is not so much for a 16 core gpu and my wife doesn’t know the gpu is not important for my work. ;)

OK, so it sounds like your use case may be different from the OP’s. Still, why pay for GPU cores you’re not going to use? I keep my partner informed about all these kinds of decisions, to the point of boring her! Still, she’s happy with the M1 MacBook Air I got her, and hated the 2016 MBP the university bought her. Her air runs circles around my MBP.

I’d say you only need the m1 pro. If you want the satisfaction of having a bit more, the 24core gpu m1 max would be the highest I’d recommend you go.

My most vital features in a laptop are its battery life and speed.

16” M1-Pro with 32GB RAM.

Apple has a great, no questions asked, return policy so get that one and try it out for a week.

There is no situation where the M1-Max has the same battery life as the M1-Pro while doing the same things in the same size laptop. The M1-Pro will always have better battery life.

I got the Pro with 32gb and 2tb. The gpu’s will eat away battery even when they are not being used. unless you are doing very high end graphics and or video processing it will give you no benefit. I’m getting 11-13 hours all day use on the pro. I had the max and got about 15-20% less usage on one charge. Also, the larger the ssd the better the performance.

Seems like a pointless thread. You’ve said you’re not bothered about the price tag and you value speed so obvious choice is just to get the best (last) of these options. Done.

Hello everyoneee :)

I hope you are all doing well and having an amazing day so far!

So I am getting mixed messages from forums different videos, I am really confused and torn between the two chips. My day to day usage includes:

  1. Over 100 tabs opened Firefox browser (they may be more though)
  2. Video streaming ( again multiple youtube tabs)
  3. General internet browsing
  4. Messages
  5. Emails
  6. Music (with Bluetooth earbuds)
  7. Watching movies
  8. I may have other apps running in the background such as notes.
  9. I might (once in a blue moon) edit a video or music but I am not a vlogger or a music producer, and no photoshop at least for now.
My most vital features in a laptop are its battery life and speed.

Since 2016 I have a Windows machine with Intel Core i7, don't even get me started on multi tasking these days, it laggs like crazy and crashes, I cannot wait to get rid of it :D , so I want the new Mac machine to be far from lagging/crashing.

I am definitely going to go for a 16" 4TB SSD but I don't know which specs to select based on the above mentioned so what Processor and Unified memory which is why I have created a poll for the options I am choosing.

P.S. I am not bothered about the price tag, I am down for going premium if it means getting quality.

Thank you for your inputs in advance :)
You will be ok with base 8/14, trust me
