I haven’t been tempted by the new phones. It didn’t bother me at all to sell my Max. In my opinion, the iPad mini is what the Phablet phones have tried to be and failed. It is a joy to use the mini 5.I've seen a few others with an SE/Mini combo, and they love it. I've seen nothing but positive reviews for both products. If an SE 2 were to come out, I would buy it over an 11, which is a purchase I have been tempted to make.
I’d pop a new battery and screen (if needed) and ride that sucker out. Still a capable phone. If it can be fixed, I’d fix it. If the phone can’t go on, get the 8 +. If Apple releases something better for you in the next few years, you can trade in the 8 + and upgrade. So for the third year in a row, it seems I can't get along with Apples implementation of OLED and it's PWM. Eye fatigue and headaches ensue whenever I use the OLED iPhones.
My iPhone 7 plus has done me proud for all these years but is starting to play up and has some signs of wear and tear. I'm desperate for an upgrade and really wanted the Pro Max (and Max before it).
I use my phone as my mini-tablet as I don't own an iPad or laptop. I do all my work on a desktop. So a larger display and big battery are essential.
I'm no fan of the XR or 11 because I can see the resolution difference from my 1080p plus-sized iPhone (especially with text). Also, I don't like the slightly narrower display, build or how iOS displays on these phones. They feel like a downgrade despite the spec sheet. So I'm stuck. If you love your XR or 11 please don't flame me, it's personal preference.
I've tried Android over the years but I've always preferred the smoothness and polish of iOS. Ten+ years of muscle memory and preference for iPhone leave me not really wanting to switch to Android. And all their flagship appears to also use PWM. I've considered the Note 10+ or Oneplus 7 Pro but they feel a little janky when I've demoed them instore.
The advantages of Samsung devices to me: flagship specs and build, they have backup/sync software for the PC, large user base so lots of potential support and guides, I really like the look of their watches (very large and masculine).
I even considered using an iPad mini for browsing etc and an iPhone SE for basic communication to get the best of both worlds. I loved the SE before switching to the 7 plus, but I can't source a brand new 128GB model in the UK anymore. There only appears to be questionable "refurbs" from third parties.
So do I have to plod along with my 7 plus for a fourth year (if it makes it) in some vain hope that "next year will be the one" (been telling myself this for 3yrs straight), or do I jump ship now and force myself to love Android?
Yes I know, first world problems. It's just been a disappointing ride for the last 3yrs because I get super hyped for the new iphones only to find out I can't use the best Apple has to offer. Guess I just want to talk it out with fellow tech buffs.
Why haven’t you considered the iPhone 8 Plus?My iPhone 7 plus has done me proud for all these years but is starting to play up and has some signs of wear and tear.
well , today i tested the iphone 11 texts in comparison with my iphone 8 and i didn't notice any difference !!I can see the resolution difference from my 1080p plus-sized iPhone (especially with text)

After another day of consideration I'm now thinking:
Keep 7 plus, buy ipad mini 5 and a refurbished SS S4 Apple watch.
This way I'll use my phone less thus extending its life by using the ipad mini 5 for most in house browsing. The Apple watch will satisfy my lust for something new and I can retire my Series 0 as it's long in the tooth.
Sure the S5 looks a better purchase because of the always on display but it sounds like this eats a large chunk of battery. I may be able to get a discount off the already discounted refurbished S4 model Apple are currently selling.
Also with the rumours of a new SE2 in 2020 this will buy me sometime to see how that pans out. Or I may find a new SE in the near future if I keep searching.
And I don't know what I'm doing......? all because I can't use the Pro Max ?
The iphone 8 has a 4.7-inch display with a 1334-by-750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi.
The 8 Plus jumps that up to a 5.5-inch display with a 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi.
So the standard 8 is closer to the 11 resolution 6.1-inch display 1792-by-828 resolution at 326 ppi.
The plus size iPhones are the only models that do a fractional scaling which can manifest in real rendering artifacts.
I’m confused. That link shows how to eliminate PWM entirely. How did it “not work” for you if PWM is the problem? Thanks for info but I've seen this since release of X. This didn't work for me.
Sure it feels like buying the same phone if you buy the 8 plus, but I still think it is the best choice for you. If you don't upgrade to the 8+, then you will always be searching and wondering, and trying out things, and returning things. A waste of time. Don't do it. I think it will be a hassle to have 2 devices, like a iPad mini and an SE, because sometimes you can't bring the mini along and you will only have a small screen (mind you, I like the SE, but I actually prefer a regular iPad like the Air). If you like the 401 ppi IPS LCD screen of the 7 plus, then go for that screen with the 8 plus and be done with it. Just go for it and be happy you can use that phone for the next 3-4 years. You'll have new 2 year warranty, new battery, new screen, louder speakers, and wireless charging option. In the future the iPhone 11 successor might have a 401 ppi LCD or not, but that's a waiting game, and I just find it to be a very tiresome thing. Live in the now, choose what is available and what has proven itself right for you.It feels like I'd be buying the same phone but with a glass back.
