I'd go 8+ if you can't use the Xr or the 11. Personally I have side by side my 7+ against both and the screens are comparable, but as others have said, everyone is different.

Like so many others have recommended, 8+ is the way to go. The 8 is a good move up from the 7, it's a lot faster, snappier and the camera is also better.

And when it comes to liking the iOS, a lot of us including me are sailing in that ship.

I’m confused. That link shows how to eliminate PWM entirely. How did it “not work” for you if PWM is the problem?
Because it doesn’t eliminate it entirely. Apple took the Samsung screens and required tweaks that Apple deemed necessary. While in theory this suggested fix should work, there’s a 110 page thread where this apparent solution was suggested over and over and it helped literally no one. Or I should say, no one reported good results.

My last post in this thread, but to put this into perspective:

401ppi = 20.025 x 20.025 pixels / inch (width x height)
326ppi = 19.026 x 19.026 pixels / inch (width x height)

So for the third year in a row, it seems I can't get along with Apples implementation of OLED and it's PWM. Eye fatigue and headaches ensue whenever I use the OLED iPhones.

My iPhone 7 plus has done me proud for all these years but is starting to play up and has some signs of wear and tear. I'm desperate for an upgrade and really wanted the Pro Max (and Max before it).

I use my phone as my mini-tablet as I don't own an iPad or laptop. I do all my work on a desktop. So a larger display and big battery are essential.

I'm no fan of the XR or 11 because I can see the resolution difference from my 1080p plus-sized iPhone (especially with text). Also, I don't like the slightly narrower display, build or how iOS displays on these phones. They feel like a downgrade despite the spec sheet. So I'm stuck. If you love your XR or 11 please don't flame me, it's personal preference.

I've tried Android over the years but I've always preferred the smoothness and polish of iOS. Ten+ years of muscle memory and preference for iPhone leave me not really wanting to switch to Android. And all their flagship appears to also use PWM. I've considered the Note 10+ or Oneplus 7 Pro but they feel a little janky when I've demoed them instore.

The advantages of Samsung devices to me: flagship specs and build, they have backup/sync software for the PC, large user base so lots of potential support and guides, I really like the look of their watches (very large and masculine).

I even considered using an iPad mini for browsing etc and an iPhone SE for basic communication to get the best of both worlds. I loved the SE before switching to the 7 plus, but I can't source a brand new 128GB model in the UK anymore. There only appears to be questionable "refurbs" from third parties.

So do I have to plod along with my 7 plus for a fourth year (if it makes it) in some vain hope that "next year will be the one" (been telling myself this for 3yrs straight), or do I jump ship now and force myself to love Android?

Yes I know, first world problems. It's just been a disappointing ride for the last 3yrs because I get super hyped for the new iphones only to find out I can't use the best Apple has to offer. Guess I just want to talk it out with fellow tech buffs.
Get the non pro 11 and call it a day.

Interesting. So the article was wrong in how it tested for PWM? I don’t understand it very well because I don’t suffer from it.

Unfortunately yes. As another member put it in a different thread, "Unfortunately that premise is faulty because there is PWM at 50% brightness. What they’re seeing is the camera shutter speed matching with the 60HZ flicker from 50-100% brightness. Totally unfounded article."

I can see the Pixels on my 11 Pro if I look hard enough. The 11 and the OLED iPhone pixel densities are not that different, when you account for the subpixel matrix. I'm sure if you gave the 11 a week or two your eyes would adjust the same way they worked when you had an iPhone 4/5/6 etc. You're holding the phone further from your face (in theory) so the pixel density shouldn't matter that much.

Two devices is not an option, FOR ME.

If the 7+ served you well, get the same, is really cheap.

Or jump to the 8+ to be a little more "up to day".

Have you checked Amazon prices?
