No one has said it's a practical solution, quite the contrary actually. But it does exactly what the OP is asking for - removes selected pictures from the photo stream.

And, just because you used the expression "ad hoc basis"; this is an ad hoc solution if anything :p

no it doesn't tho, it doesn't just remove selected pics, it removes all pics then you have to manually add the pics you want to keep.

Pics? maybe you shouldn't be doing what you're doing when the pic is taken?

It's not neccessarily embarrasing pics. i take random ones, like of things in shops i want to buy, or screenshots i take of timetables when i'm travelling, photos of something random in a game i am watching or something funny i have seen on TV, etc. there's a wide range of things you don't want cluttering your photostream.

As for asking about syncing video clips, do you not get the definition of PHOTO stream? lol. also as for deleting photos, you can only delete from camera roll at present. maybe the burst photo app can just keep all in the app and then you save the ones you want to the camera roll, like camera plus does, if the app you have made has been dev'd well, then that should be an option.

Successful deletion

I just successfully deleted photos from photo stream. It was way too easy.

All you need to do is go to the settings on your iPad and I phone and turn off photo stream. The message will prompt you that by turning it off you will delete the photos you have on photo stream. They will need to also be first deleted from the camera roll as well.

I like the dry, hard to detect, kind of humor like this. Very well done!

I figured it out :)

FIRST thing you do: turn off photo stream on your MAC, IPOD, IPHONE, and IPAD. OK so open safari go to www.icloud.com and login with your iCloud account. After you do this you will see your name at the top - click on it - click advanced - reset photo stream... this is the only way to do it guys and it deletes all of the photos so save any you might want thats NOT in your library :) then reinitialize photo stream on all your devices and they should all be gone.

SO AS A RECAP: just turning photo stream off still has your pictures stored on iCloud server so when you reinitialize photo stream your pictures will reappear on your device or mac as most of you are noticing so this is the correct way to do it.

I am not sure if you're trying to be funny or serious........

deleting photostream photos

On your iOS device, you can remove photos from the Photo Stream view by turning off Photo Stream and then optionally turning it back on. You can do this at Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream.
If you added any Photo Stream photos to other albums or the Camera Roll on your iOS device, you can locate and delete these photos manually, if desired.

I thought you said you weren't daft? You're repeating what I said earlier like it was news to me.

No matter if you remove all the pictures and then re-add the ones you want to keep or if you can delete the photos one by one - the end result is the same. You get a photo stream without the pictures you wanted. Which is what OP asked for.

What you're saying is I didn't pay 15 quids for a bottle of vodka if I payed 20 and then I got 5 back.

NO IT'S NOT WHAT THE OP WANTED!
Do you think he wants to:
1) reset PS on iCloud.com
2) switch off PS on all devices
3) switch back on PS on all devices
4) manually copy maybe hundreds of photos back onto PS
5) take a couple of pictures
6) realise that he didn't want one or more on PS
7) reset PS on iCloud.com
8) switch off PS on all devices
9) repeat step 3) etc. etc.
THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER. THE ANSWER IS IT CANNOT BE DONE AT THE MOMENT IN ANY SENSIBLE WAY.
Until Apple put the facility into PS to allow individual deletions, anything else is effectively unworkable.

idiots.. turning it off does nothing. its STORED on the iCloud server. go ahead turn it off by all means... then turn it on again and wait... OH MY GAWD LOOOK THEY CAME BACK!?!? .... if u want to leave photo steam on you'll have to do it my way.. and yes... there really is a www.icloud.com because apple made it so u can access ur iCloud remotely if your not near one of your apple devices

THIS is THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT

I'm out of here. That last post was the last straw!!!!
Don't you guys read anything?
Joke or no joke, this thread is a total waste of bandwidth and resources.

Is Apple going to do anything about this problem? You should be able to login into icloud and just choose the photos you want deleted from the stream. What is so hard about implementing that?

Take a chill pill. What the OP wanted was to keep some of the photos in his photo stream and have others removed. There is a way of doing this. It's not very convenient, but it's doable.

If you'd take your own advice and read the thread (well, just read the last couple of posts from me at least) and you'll probably realize your usage of caps lock wasn't necessary.

You would think this does not need to be restated so many times. But apparently this thread is causing some kind of cognitive distortion lol.

I will add one thing about logging into iCloud.com to turn off photostream: you can't do it on an iOS device with Mobile Safari as it only takes you to the setup iCloud page. You can, however, log into iCloud.com if you use a browser that allows changing browser ID, such as iCab.

So if you "happened" to be out and about and wanted to clear the photostream from your iOS device you can do so without needing to get back to a mac or PC.

I just hate how whenever I save a picture from the web, like a new wallpaper for my iPhone, it saves it to the camera roll and therefore sends it to the cloud. I wish I could save these in a different folder and avoid the camera roll, so it also avoids the cloud. I don't need my wallpapers in the cloud.

Another reason why I'm a PC

nuf said :p it they didn't try to keep them so simple - i-devices could actually do something.

(not trolling - just trying to learn about my ipad2) I think having to tap on each pic to delete it (as in email) is simple! yes - and slow and tedius. I'd rather shift click and tap delete for the lot selected.

no, what the OP was to know how to delete a couple as and when, which you cannot do.

Even in your post I have quoted you say the op wants to keep some on there and remove others, which you cannot do. Deleting the whole stream and then readding ones you want is not the same as keeping some and removing others....

You can tap the button in the too right (with arrow coming out of box) and select multiple and the hit delete. No going to them 1 at a time.

Really, you're not daft? Jesus...

I know, as I've said several times, that you can't delete a picture from photo stream as you can in camera roll. I know this. Okay? I understand. I'm aware of this. You don't have to repeat it.

But, if you sync your pictures to the computer, reset your photo stream and re-add the pictures that you wanted to save - the end result is the same. You have your photo stream without the unwanted photos.

For someone who doesn't want the unwanted photos even to appear on the computer or be removed from photo stream ASAP because they're afraid of their wives/girlfriends/parents seeing them - this solution is nothing short of useless, and they should just disable photo stream or refrain from taking certain pictures with their iDevices.

BUT! For someone who uses photo stream across devices and maybe want to remove those embarrassing photos from photo stream so they can show off their kids, new car or whatnot on any of their devices without having to save the pictures on each and every device - this solution is viable.

Do you understand? We can use a simple analogy, here goes:

You have 20 dollars in your pocket. You want to buy apples. You give the man who sells the apples 20 dollars. He gives you 15 dollars that you put back in your wallet. Now, would you be comfortable with saying that you've payed (removed) 5 dollars for the apples (from your wallet), despite the fact that you had to remove all of the 20 dollars from your wallet and then putting back the 15 dollars you wanted to keep?

I know, as I've said several times, that you can't delete a picture from photo stream as you can in camera roll. I know this. Okay? I understand. I'm aware of this. You don't have to repeat it.

Obviously i hve to repeat my point cos If you did know this and understand, why do you keep banging on about the deleting the whole photostream then? That is not a viable solution for the OP and the rest of us that want to be able to delete simply and quickly on the go. But you seem to keep ignoring these facts and then imply I'm being daft when you're just either ignoring our points and making yourself look daft by banging on about your non-viable solution.....

You seek stuck on the embarrassing photo example. That's not the only photo people don't want in photo stream. There's screenshots taken on the iDevice for whatever reason, images saved from emails that you may not want, random pointless shots, like I'll take a photo of something I've seen in a shop to email or message to a mate. A lot of the time people won't even think to turn photo stream of just to take a quick pick, I've been running it since beta 1 and I've never done it! So we want a quick on the go way to delete and we watch and post in this thread for if/when someone finds a way but instead there's 30-40 posts saying the exact same non-viable 'solution'. It's like demolishing and rebuilding a wall just to fix a slight chip in it. (since you like your analogies I thought that might help you).

You're analogy is totally pointless as you didn't grasp our points.

The OP never said he wanted to delete the pictures on the go, he just said he wanted to be able to clear out certain pictures from the photo stream. When I answer in a thread, I'm basing the answer on what OP said, not what someone else asked for later on in the thread. So I don't really care if the solution isn't viable for you or any other contributor in the thread since you're not the OP. According to the info given by the OP - it does what he's asking for, and thus it's a perfectly good answer in the thread.

Have you read the first post in this thread? The OP is asking for a way of clearing out embarrassing photos from his photo stream.

Also, if you'd read my previous answers it should be clear for you that I'm not promoting this way or think it's a good way of doing it - I'm just saying it's possible and that the end result is what the OP is looking for.

You're analogy is totally pointless as you didn't grasp our points.
So you're asking for something other than what the OP is, and then claim people don't understand when they're answering the OP?

but apparently this thread is causing some kind of cognitive distortion lol.

thank you, finally someone that isn't wasting space:d

this thread is groundhog day so im giving up until someone posts something useful and not repeating the resetting the photo stream useless route like it was a brand new discovery when it's already been posted in this thread alone about 20 times!

Am hoping we get more control in iOS 5.1

OP said:

"Now I have way too much photos of me in embarrassing situations and positions and I can't find a way to delete them. They all appear on my iMac and in the cloud. To be honest, that's not exactly what I want. So does anyone have an idea how to delete these photos? (I know they will be deletend in 30 days, but I want them deleted now.)"

Later on he said he didn't want to lose all of his photos from his photo stream.

He never says he wants a solution that doesn't involve first removing all of the photos and then manually re-adding those he wants to keep.

Is the resetting of the photo stream and manual re-adding of those photos he wanted to keep in photo stream a way (the only way at that) to do exactly what the OP is asking for, or is it not?
