You believe everything on youtube?
I believe what I see, GamerNexus and LTT are pretty honest and have a level of integrity that I do believe what they report on.

GN showed a number of issues, not just talking but backing up showing it. The proof is in the putting and the tear down of the machines show a shocking lack of quality

LTT had the recording of the buying process and the desires not have certain reoccurring charges but the invoice in fact had them. The strong arm upselling seemed a bit offputting too

I have two dell systems I purchased in the past 6 months and both are fully upgradeable. down to what wireless module I want to use.
That doesn't mean they're not scamming people, it just means you bought a computer that is fully upgradeable and chose the components. I would verify those components, as the first video showed the alienware computer was supposed to have liquid cooling but instead it has a tiny ineffective air cooler not meant for a gaming machine.

As for upgradeable, they're incurring a class action suit from people who bought machines that were marketed as upgradeable only to find out they're not.

Here's a different take - the Better Business Bureau

I've had good products from companies and bad / defective products. Customer service is also a roll of the dice these days. I've had good experiences with Apple, Lenovo, Microsoft, Dell (so far) and HP. I've also had bad products and experiences from all those listed..

I just got a Latitude 9420 and am happy with it thus far. I did experience Dell's customer service to return my hot as an oven XPS and it was painless..

I've purchased Dells through the years and they were generally good computers, but I do believe times have changed and they're not the same company as they used to be. Its hard to argue with the video evidence of the GN's tear downs of the desktop computer.

Maybe the laptops are different but given some of their moves of sneaking extra charges in on LTT, I would review your invoice very closely.

I received exactly what I ordered. All upgradable, and all correct. I go by MY experiences. My two systems are a 5406 14" 2 in 1, and an XPS 8940 special edition desktop. Both came with exactly what I ordered.

My invoice is odd but it was ordered through a business rep that's assigned to my former company.. See the screenshot of my invoice.. The only thing wrong on my invoice is that I have a 512GB SSD not a 256 listed in the invoice, Could this be trickery on their part? Maybe but for now I'll chalk it up to a glitch in the system.

Honestly, I've had Lenovo try to upsell me every time I place an order with them. The Dell bizz rep I ordered through didn't try to upsell me anything and just placed my order as I had it configured.

I don't doubt what you are saying but I think most companies try to upsell you these days. Heck Apple does the same with Apple Care+ to an extent..

I've had nothing but horrible luck with them in the past. A desktop that went bad just outside of warranty (of course!). Turns out it was a faulty motherboard. Then I bought a laptop about a decade later, and the hinge where the lid closes snapped. The battery went bad, and then the charging port went out. This is all in the span of 3 months. In contrast, my Mac has been going strong for at least a year, it’s it a meager i3 with 8gb RAM.

In my experience Dell has always been hit-or-miss. I had an Inspiron 17 that lasted 5 years and a lot of abuse, which was replaced by another Inspiron 17 that crapped out at 2.

The office Dell desktops (I don’t remember the models) lasted 10 years, but the laptops they bought last year are starting to glitch out. The latitude laptops they replaced are still going strong.

I’m not surprised at these videos, Dell always was shady in various ways. From taking money from Intel to lock out AMD, to this. Also their tech support has always been ass, basically they just run through basic problems then tell you to ship it back for repairs.

Generally, OEMs put more effort into laptops than prebuilt desktops, so that would be likely.

I would also add that a recurring theme in GN's reviews of prebuilt systems is that they're all pretty *****, especially relative to their prices.

My experience is that Dell's business department is still solid, but consumer desktops have gone out the wazoo at pretty much all companies. God bless the iMac haha (though it has its own bag of problems inherent to being an AIO and no comparable spec tower exists in Apple's lineup)

Quote from Intel that was revealed in a lawsuit:

Ugh, the airflow in the first Alienware makes me sick. If you're going cripple the airflow like that, you'd better make sure the case is aesthetically pleasing and built well.

I bought an Alienware an m15 and returned it after the screen developed dead pixels in the first week. They offered to ship out another one but it's very clear Mac's are built better and that I'd be better off building another PC if I want windows in my life.

Only brands I'd recommend these days are Asus and Lenovo sadly.

Agree. This is why I usually only buy high end bizz machines (ThinkPad X1's ect)

Most budget to mid tier consumer machines are loaded with bloat and have low build quality. The LCD screen bleed I've seen on some machines is insane!

Also avoid Dell printers like the plague. We always got a free printer deal with the laptops we bought at home and the printers always gave us ****. There’s a reason they give them away.

I think whoever is doing Dells engineering is amateurish. Or they subcontract to the cheapest place they can find. That’s the only way I can explain the issues that these things have.

At work, DELL OptiPlex and Latitude are pretty much the standard. Although I didn't click and watch any of the video from OP, I wouldn't buy a DELL for myself after all the poor experience from these machines designed for business use. I doubt the consume line or XPS is any better.

We have 20+ Dell optiplex and precision machines at work from brand new to 20+ years old. They do their jobs and they're rock solid.

Dell is garbage. I bought their XPS 15 back in 2015 when I was disappointed/couldn't afford with the MacBook Pro refreshes. This was not a low-end machine. Specs looked great on paper but it was constant back and forth with problem after problem. Random shutdowns. Bluetooth problems. Wifi problems. Faulty main board. Eventually I exchanged it enough to get a pretty decent one, which just as the warranty ended had the battery swell and wreck some components including the track pad. Got it replaced from Dell, who swore the battery wouldn't swell again. Sold it to a friend who years later.. just had the battery swell up and wreck the touch pad.

Never again will I buy a Dell. I barely even had the laptop half the time, since it was constantly being shipped back to Dell.

My advice to anyone buying a Dell: make sure you have another computer you can use instead. In fact.. maybe just don't buy a Dell at all.

Every company, including Apple has bad machines. This is an Apple centric site so I expect bashing and inflated horror stories of non Apple products to occur.. There was a guy here at MR a few years ago that had to exchange like 10 MacBook Pro's if I remember correctly...

In the case of the videos in the OP, I think a $900 gaming desktop would be considered low end? Honest Q as i don't game but I believe that would be a low end machine they are reviewing. Low end machines are always going to have bloat and well, low end components and build quality. I find it odd they purchased a low end machine only to complain that it's, well, ya know, low end!

The only real issue I see in those videos are the up sales and the unexpected charges. That does need to be addressed as it's shady, very shady...

Yes, 900 dollars is low end. As I mentioned before, I have never had anyone at dell try to upsell me for anything. I have never had anything be something different than I ordered. Like I said, don't believe everything you watch on youtube when it comes to this stuff. Ulterior motives are most usually at play.

I used to work on them for a living....and now I own only Macs.

Their business line can be ok, but dealing with tech support, even as a Dell Certified Technician was ALWAYS a nightmare.

'Did you try a known working power cord?' REALLY? I'm the tech, I try everything before I bother to call!
