I used to work on them for a living....and now I own only Macs.

Their business line can be ok, but dealing with tech support, even as a Dell Certified Technician was ALWAYS a nightmare.

'Did you try a known working power cord?' REALLY? I'm the tech, I try everything before I bother to call!
When you call Apple support it's different? Nerp! They are all reading from company scripts.. Sorry, but this is screams as one-sided rhetoric..

Dell is my goto company for Windows systems but my last purchase was in 2008. I've been buying Mac notebooks since then and have built my own desktops. It would be sad if I ran into problems with their hardware.

Yes, 900 dollars is low end.
Then I guess I am confused as to why they'd bash a low end machine as being low end.. Did they not know what they were purchasing or did they expect low end pricing with high end components and build quality?

I am getting a kick out of all these overblown responses though because ya know, Apple products are magical and all that jazz.. :D

Every company, including Apple has bad machines. This is an Apple centric site so I expect bashing and inflated horror stories of non Apple products to occur.. There was a guy here at MR a few years ago that had to exchange like 10 MacBook Pro's if I remember correctly...

In the case of the videos in the OP, I think a $900 gaming desktop would be considered low end? Honest Q as i don't game but I believe that would be a low end machine they are reviewing. Low end machines are always going to have bloat and well, low end components and build quality. I find it odd they purchased a low end machine only to complain that it's, well, ya know, low end!

The only real issue I see in those videos are the up sales and the unexpected charges. That does need to be addressed as it's shady, very shady...
Here users bash Apple,
It should be the opposite. It is important how many machines have issue. If 1 Mac on 10000 have an hardware problem, for sure you will see the news on every website. If 1/3 Dell have hardware issue nobody’s talks about it.

I dunno... I've had issues with Apple, Lenovo, Dell, et al... None of them are immune to hardware problems. If someone (the videos in the OP) buys a LOW END machine what exactly are they expecting to receive?

I didn't think people still thought of Alienware as great machines once Dell bought it, how could you be so deep in denial to not know it would become trash. If you are a true gamer/power user, you're building your own rig to max out the specs and get none of the bloatware.

I don't think they're over blown, there are number of people here that have some really inciteful posts.

buys a LOW END machine
The Alienware computer cost over 2,000 with taxes included. Its not a low end computer and the tear down shows that it was marketed with a water cooler but actuality it and a tiny stock air cooler with zero room for air movement.

Its funny in the video, he mentions that the Alienware design only appeals to the grandparents of the kids and that's probably so true. A parent or grand parent buying little johnny a computer sees this and thinks wow that's a gaming computer so I'll go and buy it :p

I was referring to the $900 machine reviews in the videos.. They lost all credibility with me as what exactly were they expecting to get from a budget machines?

The Alienware review? Yeah that's interesting for sure.

As far as reliability goes, any computer can have a problem - it’s how frequently they come up and how the problem is dealt with by support that matters the most. Dell have always been abysmal for this - I work in IT and every time I’ve used Dell products, I’ve had reliability issues and terrible support. I avoid wherever possible now. Fujitsu have been great for business support by comparison. HP probably not too bad as well.

Can’t comment on the false advertising, but plenty of people with $2000+ MacBook Pros have issues with keyboards, display cables, hard drive cables, etc.

I guess he was expecting a decent built machine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I mean with the opening title that this machine is worse then the walmart machine - that's pretty sad, entry level or not. I don't know if you watched the entire video, but he's complaining mostly about the poor build quality, the use of proprietary components to a degree that you won't be able to use them in another computer, it essentially becomes e-waste.

Being an budget PC doesn't give dell the right to produce a machine that is sketchy. At the end of the video, he's mentioning how Dell's free warranty has a 67 dollar charge - again some of the questionable actions that dell employs

Yep, no argument, I think the difference is Apple is striving to make things better, where as dell just keeps rolling out these models.

I'm not defending Apple, nor do I have an axe to grind against dell. Its really something that I've been seeing for a little while now. It doesn't matter if people believe me or not, I'm just posting what I saw and I've developed an opinion that I believe Dell is not the same company as it used to be.

i was considering an xps laptop, 15 or 17 inch; but there's such a long list of problems, both for hardware and bios/firmware, that i completely lost interest in those devices.

He didn't know what he was buying or he bought it for the sole purpose of bashing it full well knowing what he was getting.

If Dell wants to use proprietary components in machines then that's their propagative and someone can choose to purchase or not, after a little research and knowing this in advance of the purchase. As far as low end build quality goes, again what was this guy expecting from a budget machine?

Personally I think the dude bought it just to bash it and make a video.. I still don't understand why he is amazed that he bought a LOW END machine and received a LOW END machine... It's kind of odd, to be honest..

Yes I addressed the charges in a previous post and agreed that is sketchy and needs to stop..

I can’t speak for everyone, but at work we have Dell Precision desktops and I have an old Latitude from 2013 at home for windows programs. Both solid as can be.

Dell’s support has always sucked imo. Out sourced to poor speaking folks I can’t understand. Props to Apple for not going that route. But I disagree with apple striving to make things “better”. They change the design just because, not for any good reason. No one was complaining about the 2012-2015 keyboards or port selection or display cable.

If he has any of the building experience he purports to have, he would've known what to expect when opening those computers for his videos, he's playing oblivious for the clicks. I truly detest "social media influencers" of his ilk. 30 minutes of video with about 18 minutes of useful information and the rest is either grifting or filler talk/over-sensationalized complaining. Store bought machines are typically proprietary garbage.

Agree partially - the low end stuff is trash. The higher end Precision workstations (5000, 7000) series appears to be well built and long lasting. Companies I work for have been running them for years with no issues.

Wow, seeing the following videos, I would avoid Dell (and alienware) I was one of those people who said Dell was something you couldn't go wrong with - well I guess I'm the one who is wrong

Class action lawsuit filed against Dell for false advertising over Alienware laptop's upgradeability
Just goes to show that personal experiences are just that... personal. I have NEVER found Dell to be something to recommend.

If it’s Linus Tech Tips you’re talking about, then yes, they tend to sensationalize a lot. But his PC building experience is unquestionable. Like many in his company even.

If you’re talking about Gamers Nexus, then you’re incredibly wrong. They have easily the most in-depth reviews and extensive knowledge of PCs. In a previous video they even praised a Dell 3080 over other partner boards.

I have criticisms of LTT, but I consider GN a gold standard in PC component reviews.

Nobody talked about Apple itt until you did. We were comparing other PC brands.
Apple / Mac's have been mentioned NUMEROUS times.. Maybe try reading the thread? I can include several quotes if you'd like.. I believe I counted 11 instances.. LOL
