although the 2414Q used MST to achieve 4K at 60Hz, does the 2415Q have an upgraded TCON that can use the full DP1.2 bandwidth in SST?

----------

So running the P2715Q in 1920 x 1080 resolution actually results in sharp images and text? I thought it would be blurry due to downscaling of resolution? Can you please confirm?

he means the desktop space is the equivalent to 1920x1080, but because it's HiDPI the actual resolution is 3840x2160. Just the same as how a retina display works.

I love the heck out of my P2715Q more every day. Awesome monitor for the price and SO CLEAR. Could not recommend it higher.

Does someone use AX510 or AC511 speaker bar with these monitors?
I wonder if i attach AC511, will it play sound with only displayport connected?

Thank you

The AC511 is a USB sound bar which requires a uplink USB cable to your computer and uses one of the 3 available USB ports. It doesn't utilize the displayport at all.

I just attached the AC511 - it didn't work through the DisplayPort connection - had to hook up the USB cable to the computer. Not sure whether it should work or not and I don't know if it will through HDMI with the speaker only attached to the monitor. I thought the monitor can take in the audio and then pass it out but not sure how.

Are there any good alternatives that don't use a USB port?

Submit feedback to Apple asking for a firmware update to light up a 4K SST display at boot.

You say you are running 2x 2715Q monitors. Do you also always have to power cycle one of the displays after a restart? - I have to every single time!

I do... but I restart my system so rarely that it's not been much of a thought. You'll also find that it's best to turn one off completely when you want to reinstall OS X or access the recovery partition.

There was some discussion way back in this thread about the limitations of the EFI which is undoubtedly the culprit here... there's no boot screens on any SST 4K display which is actually more of an issue than having to power cycle one at login to set the primary.

Everyone here without boot screens on their 4K display should be complaining to Apple for an EFI firmware update.

P2715Q Screen resolution

Can anyone help with a screen resolution issue I have?

I'm running yosemite 10.10.2
Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Ive adjust the display in System Preferences to 3840*2160 and my UI's get tiny. I would prefer the UI to look like does when 3006*1692 is selected because i don't want to squint at everything on the screen.

But my issue is that When 3006*1692 is selected 1080HD video played at its native resolution takes up more space then 1/4 of my screen. And "actual size" in photoshop... or any other image viewing software also scaled to incorrect proportions. this means the computer is "making up" pixels to enlarge the image.

in short how to i keep my p2715Q's native resolution an still have readable GUI's?

What are they doing on the 5K retina iMacs for this issue?

You'll only get 1:1 (content pixels : display pixels) mapping at native res and at "Best for Display" (the latter requires the app is retina aware).

Apple's scaled modes like 3008x1690 render the desktop (including content) at double the selected resolution and then down sample it to the display resolution. This provides sharpness nearly as good as pixel doubled "Best for Display" but you lose 1:1 pixel mapping on content.

Those are the trade-offs. As a result, for casual use, I run my displays at a scaled setting of 3008x1690 and for photo post processing, I switch to Native 4K. There's a handy menu bar app for making the switch (in the Mac App Store). I'm on my phone or I'd tell you the name of it.

Awesome, I'll have to check it out. I think I'll have to follow a similar workflow as you.

A quick google search show a menu bar app called "Display Menu" maybe thats what your using. I think that would make things a lot more convenient thanks.

Hopefully more apps become retina aware. Along with Apple's own GUI.. but in the meantime thats a bearable fix.

Yeah, the app is Display Menu... very handy! I believe the in-app purchase allows you to limit the resolution options to what you use most often... it was worth it for me as the list of all available resolution settings is ridiculous. :)

P2715Q with retina iMac

Is there any remaining issues that are still not fixable for using P2715Q with retina iMac?

Also, those using this display with retina iMac, how does the screen compare to retina iMac's screen subjectively speaking? And any other comments or oddities to note?

I use quickres to do this.

It's normally $4.99, but I see there is a special on and it's $4

I've been a Mac user since 1985. Let me put it this way....I freaking love these monitors. It's so good I bought 2 and running them side-by-side on a MacPro 5,1 with a GeForce 980 at 3008 x 1692 each. Stunning.

Retina iMac is good but the glossy turns me off. The Dells don't have gloss.

Is there any good site for UK purchases other than Amazon? Also, non on eBay UK (high import fees)

Sorry to take the lazy way, instead of reading 38 pages....

Is the Dell P2415Q now a reliable safe option for a late 2103 15" rMBP, maxed out version?

In particular if you unplug the MBP daily, and reconnect, does it require any hoop-jumping to get things working again on reconnect?

Thanks

Great info! Thanks

I have been watching this scene for a while, and I guess the only thing holding me back now is that it is till quite bleeding edge, and new models, especially one from Apple, might be round the corner.

got my 2415Q today, it's actually better than i thought ! i must be one of the lucky ones because I can't see any backlight uniformity or bleed issues. a glossier surface is normally my preference but the AG coating on this monitor is quite thin and doesn't make the picture hazy - although I did whack the brightness to 100% from the default which was a bit dim for my liking. Running it in SST mode with a 2015 macbook pro 13" and I get 60Hz by default without any fiddling around and OS X automatically selected the retina/HiDPI mode :D

Been keeping an eye on this thread and the one about the LG 31MU97.

Would like to get a 4K monitor. Some people are reporting problems with the LG. Perhaps more to the point, the way things are going it will soon be possible to buy two Dell P2715Q's for the price of one LG 31MU97 (at least here in the UK it will be). Crazy!?

For me I'm slightly concerned about going from a nice large 30" Apple Cinema HD Display to a smaller 27", however better the quality may be.

Has anyone made a similar move and have any comments to make? Financially I'd like to stick to purchasing a single 4K monitor, although if the price drops a little more then getting two 27" Dell's isn't totally out of the question (but unlikely as things stand at the moment).

Comments?
