They keep their money overseas to avoid paying American Corporate taxes.
As does every other American company with international involvement. My point is that if you're going to complain about Apple for whatever reason, you have to present an example of a corporation that provides a better alternative. Did I miss some statement by Google, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, or Blackberry (or ANY smartphone company) that they assemble their devices in the USA?

Why are people getting so bent out of shape about $10 of the overall value of the phone? Tell me how you can find enough people in the USA who would assemble a smartphone for $10? For $20? $30?

Good. Buying American is always good (even it isn't actually made here).

I totally agree. It has been a long time there is an American company that puts out consumer products acclaimed worldwide. Additionally, iOS has proven itself since birth. It's an easy decision.

First of all, I am not one of those people and I have never endorsed any of that trumped up B.S lie that the US Government fabricated about the 911 Towers being blown up by terrorists.

Secondly, I have always firmly stated from day one that the US Government deliberately blew up that building to evoke the new world order and to justify the war in Iraq and US military presence around the globe.

Anyone familiar with explosives can tell you first hand that building or buildings dropped in a sequential order from detonation and no airplane is capable of bringing down a building of that size end of story....

Anyone who doesn't live under a rock and is older than 5 years can tell you first hand that there are and were no 911 Towers. The only towers I've heard of being attacked are the towers of the World Trade Center in 2001. That was attacked with a Boeing 767, which weighs 175400lbs empty.

That's not cool... my money is buying overpriced **** the government doesn't need.

You would prefer they meet their office communications needs with perhaps smoke signals and tin cans on strings?

With tax payers money!

So lets see, 650,000 iOS Devices lets say at $300.00 each equals $195,000,000.00 - I'm glad that all of you are good with the fact that the rest of us are scratching to put food on the table and our government spends that kind of money for just 1 department on phones and tablets.

I swear America is comprised of a bunch of spineless and gutless SAPS anymore! You know it's pretty bad when a descendant of General MacArthur (Me) has that to say about the country he is from born and raised.

ABSOLUTELY ****KING AMAZING!

I guess you guys think DoD should rather spend the money to buy and ground one more of these:

Lockheed Martin F-35

They can use the change to fix the problems of the plane!

Buying American supports its own economy and a heavy percent will go back into their pockets as tax revenue.

"American"... riiiiiiight.
To be fair, Apple is probably more American than other companies in terms of how much money goes into the American economy from it.

They keep their money overseas to avoid paying American Corporate taxes.

The money they keep overseas is money they earn overseas. If you want to tax it again just so they can bring their overseas money into the US, you should lower the tax rate enough that it will be worth it to them to do so.

Obama is an Apple President.

Nope. He still uses a BB:

What we need is some big buyer like DOD to demand that future operating systems continue to be installable on the existing hardware. It is ridiculous how fast Apple is outdating hardware. The only excuse is greed. App developers are doing the same thing. Apps that ran fine on my iPodTouch all of a sudden get updated by the developer to require the newest iOS and I get that nasty little warning that X can not be installed because it requires the latest iOS. This is very wasteful. Very not green. Very greedy of Apple and the developers.

They are for the most part... this is one thing Apple has been very good about. My iPad 2 works just fine with the latest iOS. But like all tech... at some point you have to draw a line to move forward. I don't expect my iPad2 to be compatible forever... but it's been good for almost 2 years.

Not really. Obama's iPad contains modifications by the NSA. The DoD uses probably modified iDevices, special software and MIL-STD cases.

The highest levels of clearance won't be using iPhones for NSA-cleared encrypted communications. They're not capable of such secure transmission, even if you were to use PGP encrypted content over UMTS...

Top Secret - Sensitive Compartmentalized Information and above (Q and the myserious Yankee White which designates a background check, not a clearance, for those working closest to the president) would be or are already using the Sectera EDGE (not to be confused with GPRS EDGE communications protocol) mobile for DoD/NSA compliant switchable secure/non-secure comms, both voice and data. President Obama and Joint Special Operations Command are currently using that platform. He uses the Blackberry for non-secure comms.

These phones are undoubtedly for 650,000 others who don't operate within the highest echelons of classified intel.

Gone are the days when a computing device could easily last 5-7 years with ugprades, 2 years is nothing.

There is also a good chance this is NOT running an off the shelf version of iOS, its proabably even more locked down than the off the shelf version, and Apple probably won't have much say in what goes on with those devices.

Much like the DoD mostly running Windows machines, they don't run off the shelf windows, at all.

You do realize that the approximate budget for DoD is around $500 Billion? So $195 Million is approximately 0.039% of the total budget. Thats a drop in the bucket.

I'm glad that all of you are good with the fact that the rest of us are scratching to put food on the table and our government spends that kind of money for just 1 department on phones and tablets.

I'm glad that the entirety of DoD is spending 0.039% of their budget on phones and tablets. If one program within a department of one of the Defense Agencies was spending that, then we'd have issues. Its a good use of money for testing within the entirety of DoD.

Some people have no concept of scale. This is why when someone shouts "NASA's wasting $18 billion a year!" in the next sentence they will use a number like $1 trillion to throw you off... when they should say "$18 billion out of a $1000 billion budget.... or less than half a penny on a dollar."

Doesn't have the same sensationalistic ring, does it?

DOD lock screen hack

Why the heck would DOD be buying from Apple when they can't get their phone secure? One day unlock hack. A week later Apple fix. Next day unlock hack.

Not a Blackberry person (haven't had a chance to try new one).

If you really want secure then Blackberry is great.

This is coming from a SG3 owner.
