i dont get how you came to that 19 hours number but you're not the first person i've heard say that so i'll take that to be truth. it should be about 16 hours by now though

on MMI there is already a long thread on this.. if you go into the source code of yiphone.org there is a bunch of numbers.. u multiply and get a unix time stamp with points to 9am Pacific time here is a quote from mmi

Forget the *11 on the end..

You get 12161376

Now, you add two "0"'s to the end... now you have a valid unix date..

which is what when you convert it???

works for 3g

for those wondering if this will work on 3g and the 1st gen iphone i am quite sure it will. correct me if im wrong but pwnage mods the firmware that is then installed onto the iphone. and since both the first and 3g iphones are running the same firmware then the unlocking would be the same process. correct me if im wrong

EDIT: didnt take into account bootloader, so dont count this comment. i personally think that the wait for releasing it instead of on launch day was because either this bootloader problem meaning they are working it out before the release or because of glitches in the firmware and that they will release it later for 3g

How can one unlock the iPhone?
Doesn't one has to sign that contract with their provider?

Well actually its a little bit more complicated than that. Inside the iphone there is a thing called bootloader, which contains the simlock, software of course. The new iphone 3G has a different bootloader than the first iphone making it harder to crack as there isnt a workaround yet. So the unlocking process will be harder than on the first gen iphone.

Though I'm sure that DevTeam will find a solution for us :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the bootloader has nothing to do with the jailbreaking of the 3G iphone. JBing the iphone wont be a problem.

hate to break it to you but....it's not going to...

Well here we go again.

If you look at my post above I explain the issue that I am well aware of, but how can you, unless you're a DevTeam guy know for sure that it wont?

If you're not a part of the hacking process in any way you should make it clear that its your Belief that Pwnage 2.0 wont unlock 3G.

I personally believe it will, but of course I could be wrong. So we'll just have to wait and see :)

ok kool, thanks for clearing it up, strike my previous comment

as long as I can unlock my old iphone with 2.0 firmware so i can sell it. I'll be happy.

genious

It's counting to 133775136.. I'm not sure what for.

Taken as a timestamp that date is 2nd Jan 1970..

Edit: If you multiply the timestamp by 100000 you get 4pm (GMT) 15th July 2008....

your a genious. i figured out the 133775136 from source but i did not have the timestamp down.

Is it likely that it will only be available for Mac OS at this stage. Will Winpwn come later or likely to be released at the same time?

Or if you're stupid like me you can just take the seconds and divide by 60 twice, then add that to the current time.

Is he a part of DevTeam? If not, he knows just about as much as you and me. DevTeam hasnt neither confirmed nor denied that Pwnage 2.0 will unlock 3G. So until they make a statement or release their software it could be either way. I'm hoping for 3G unlock as there is a POSSIBILITY that it will be included. If someone (read Geohotz) found a way to modify the old bootloader someone (read either Geohotz or DevTeam) could do it again.

so will this be able to jailbreak 2.0 on a 3g?
thats all i want as im on o2 anyway - no need for unlock

If you read the comments left by the dev team in the posts on their blog, you will see a post which states that the 3G iPhone development work is a seperate stream to the work going on with pwnage2.0 although the 2 will come together at some point (next tool after 2.0?)

I thought that PWNAGE 2.0 wasn't supporting the new iPhone 3G?? 1000's of us are sat here with 2G iPhones waiting to use the new iphone software, surely it would have made sense to focus on unlocking the software on 2G? and not delaying waiting for the 3G to be cracked as well?

These are two separate work-streams, which will merge eventually, either of these streams are not dependent on each other and won't impact on the release that we've been talking about. PwnageTool 2.0 is in the final test stage and this new work doesn't alter that whatsoever.

new work he is talking about is from the video of them getting into the 'iBoot' of the 3G iPhone, which would be a little away from actually unlocking it - but it's a way in
