Why don't you install a copy of oracle virtualbox on your MP7,1 and use an USB installer of the macOS of your choice ?

I'm still waiting for my 7.1, only have the Pro Display and stand :)

Not familiar with Oracle Virtual Box - only VMware & Parallels - is it the same thing?

Slightly off topic, I think I may have that display and the problem is with drivers. I have it running ok with my MP and some custom resolution software.

I kind of have that display too. It’s ok no problems. Not like the ones I’m having.

You can take back CTO to any Apple Store. This isn’t a question.

For an online order, what is the return date?

Is it 14 days from the shipped date, or 14 days from the delivered date?

For example, I ordered something that was shipped from Shanghai on Jan 14, and arrived here on Jan 18.

Do I have until Jan 28, or Feb 1 to take it to an Apple Store to return?

It's still a tough sell, especially considering the bang-for-buck ratio compared to my Hackintosh but my purchase was for long term support…by "support" I imply my own. Sometimes an OS upgrade on the Hackintosh can cause me days worth of headaches (I'm very glad that Apple has designed macOS to be fairly resilient against failed OS upgrades, allowing me to fall back to my previous version immediately).

Any hardware or software support for myself or my family is from me and I've found the MacPro, albeit expensive, to work well enough that I had my user folder practically mirrored and up and running within an hour. No creating SSDT files, BIOS setup, installer USB drive, faux SMBIOS/serial numbers, etc. It's the trade off between the product's functionality and my time…the older I'm getting I'm running out of the latter and want to spend less of it troubleshooting.

The Hackintosh runs solid for now, as does the MacPro and they're both good machines with trade offs. For what it's worth I still have a 2009 cMP 4,1 with 5,1 flashed firmware and RX580 card that's still pretty zippy for other members of the family and has given me very little headaches in the support department—I'm hoping for a similar experience.

Does the virtual box perform better than parallel desktop?
I can't answer this question as I do not run Parrallels but I've found VirtualBox to be a solid virtualization platform. I've been using it for years (running on a Linux host OS) and haven't had any issues with it. It's very capable and I love the fact I can administer it through the command line.

VirtualBox and Parallels are both type 2 hypervisors. Both max out at 64GB allocated RAM for VM’s. Fine if you’ve got a little app or two that you need, but to work fully inside it is a bit of a Rube Goldberg setup. The primary differences are in the user interface.

Pretty sure Type 1 hypervisors (such as ESXi) can’t run on anything with T2 chip.

Some people thought I was completely joking when I said I wanted to take a rusty screwdriver to the Mac Pro's T2 chip .

The last time I checked , it was impossible to install any version of Linux on T2 Macs as well .

On the relatively bright side , its a piece of cake to install Windows 10 on a Mac Pro 7,1 via bootcamp . T2 seems to just luv that .

I've been using 128GB allocated to Parallels (Pro) for the last couple years for a Linux VM, but I'm not sure when they added that support.

You can install Linux on a T2 Mac if you use a new enough kernel: https://linuxwit.ch/blog/2020/01/installing-fedora-on-mac-mini/

Well , this explains a lot . Evidently , what is needed is Linux kernel version 5.4 + .

Both the latest versions of Mint Linux ( which I like for personal reasons ) and Oracle Linux ( free RHEL , for more professional reasons ) do not yet incorporate a kernel that recent .

RHEL 8 is at kernel version 4.18 and Mint 19.3 is at kernel version 4.15 , I think .

Anyone here a VMware Fusion fan?

I use it. Like it. Slower and less well integrated than parallels. But parallels is dead to me. Non subscription version is limited in number if cores and assignable ram. You need the subscription version for more. Plus it’s an app developed in Russia and I have my trust issues about that.

I started out with Parallels when I got my first Macbook Pro in 2007 but switched to VMware Fusion not long after it debut and never looked back (not because of performance but a friend from the company recommended it). Never knew Parallels is developed in Russia - but now that I do, I would never use it - trust issues as well (wouldn't use any Chinese software as well). Ironically, my friend who recommended VMware to me is a very smart US naturalized Russian! :)

I couldn't help but to notice in the video , Linus didn't know the difference between a straight W-3275 and a W-3275M . Hey , Linus , there's a reason why Apple charges $7000 for a $4300 processor . It's because they don't ( they are different items ) . Also , try getting an after market upgrade W series Xeon without special ordering it . You can , but you'll pay a premium . Linus' videos are more emotional than factual .

I've never watched any of his videos but aren't they like all the YouTube 'influencers' just provocative crap designed to generate views & thus generate income for him?

It's all short term emotion designed to get the ol' heart pitter pattering , like twitter . A brief dopamine rush . That's why I try not to view these videos even though the topic is of interest . Linus is not a tech .

One of my clients is a responsible video editor who produces YouTube hunting videos - he's got hundreds of thousands of subscribers and he's too honest to pull any of these hyperventilating tricks .

If I made a YT video on a tech operation , it wouldn't have thousands or millions of viewers . Maybe , say , only 314 . But it'd have lasting value for them , not just a warm glowing feeling for ten seconds .

because an older OS than the release date of the machine won't have the drivers for the machine.

Always been the case Right? Mac Pro '19 has a lot of new stuff too? MPX, GPU fibrelink etc that certainly won't be in previous versions.
