They killed it with the iPhone 7. You can take a A9 device, root it, and make your phone work around you, instead of forcing yourself to conform to the phone. Then the A9 thrashes the walled in ecosystem on the A10, A11 & A12...plus has 4x the sound quality. The audio quality is trash post A9.

I have had a lot of Apple employees seriously triggered when I speak truth to customers in their store, because they can't polish that piece of turd enough to sell once the consumer know what's up.
im pretty confused by this post

Are you saying you’ve been hanging round in Apple stores preaching negative stuff to people looking to buy? If someone approached me like that in any shop I’d probably walk away very fast as it’s an unusual use of ones time.

The early years of iPhone had vital upgrades:
  • Noticeably faster CPUs and GPUs.
  • More RAM.
  • More storage.
  • New sensors (accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyroscope).
  • New networks (3G, etc.).
  • Retina displays.
  • Bigger displays.
  • Better cameras and lenses.
  • Touch ID.
  • NFC.
  • etc.
Later models are not as significant because the biggest differences, Retina display to OLED and TouchID to FaceID are kind of side-grades.

What can they add or improve, hardware-wise, where it makes a noticeable difference in how you interact with a device or the quality of content you can use on your device?

The biggest problems are in software, namely, iOS. More specifically, with having a model that is so app-centric and restricted that it gimps tons of workflows and tasks that are easy on laptops.

1. No Notch/ improve Face ID sensor/ add touch support
2. Bigger Screen (7 inch)
3. Offer a smaller phone for SE Users
4. Offer Alumium Back for people who don’t want wireless charging
5. USB C
6. Increase Refresh Rate to 120 Hz second
7. Bring Back the Headphone Jack
8 Lower Absurd Prices
9. Pencil Support
10. Triple Cameras
11. 6 GB ram in All Apple Devices from now on

My Lineups. AMOLED OLED
4. 599. 699
4.7 699. 799
5.5. 799. 929
7. 899. 1049

Crazy people often have too much time on their hands caring what other people buy

Personally I feel like the golden goose has been multiplying to other manufacturers. We have a lot of fanboys here on this forum, people who are very dug in the Apple systems and how apps work with iOS etc. I am one of those fanboys, I love apple, I pay a premium for Apple.

I also use the high end android phones for my second line (throughout the year), and 2 very important variables are potentially causing a change (at least in my subjective observations of friends, family, and the general public I see everyday).

1- other manufacturers make phones that are just as capable, at the very least in the same quality range, or even better in some aspects compared to the apple flagships - for hundreds less.

2- Apple is pricing people like me out of the purchasing segment. I have a higher gb model max, I love my new Apple Watch, I’m loving both my old iPads etc. It’s becoming very clear that it’s Not worth the cost, as an Apple fanboy that I am - it’s just not worth a $1200 phone ever year , a $500 watch every year, and a $1200-1500 iPad every few years. I am that “blind” customer that spends thousands every year on Apple products and competitors are looking more attractive every year. If someone like myself is feeling that way, the average customer that thinks $750 is too expensive for a phone is ABSOLUTELY thinking that.

Of course we don’t know how many iPhones were produced this year, perhaps they produced 3xs as many needed to fill the demand and will announce record sales.

Either way, it’s been a difficult year for every flagship manufacturer, I’m fairly certain Samsung, LG, and Apple are all falling behind sales projections in 2018.

Apparently they think a phone is worth $900 and this year has proved that they aren’t.

Those are great points. I upgrade phones all the time. Cost is never really a concern, but at the same time, you want something for your money, right? Selling a slightly tweaked version of the same phone they sold last year, for a premium... probably doesn't make sense to most people. There is a breaking point, and for a lot of people, $1300+ for a phone that you are gonna drop in the toilet or shatter the screen on and have to replace within a year, isn't appealing.

Look at companies like OnePlus... Building top tier phones, selling like hotcakes, because they struck the right balance of quality, features and price...

Yeah, Apple sells a lot of phones, but it's largely because they are a "lifestyle brand"... Consider them the Harley Davidson of the phone world... You can only charge a big premium for outdated tech for so long, as Harley is finding out... At some point, just having that badge or label, isn't enough...

iPhone 7 was good but my iPhone X is louder. I heard they made XS even more louder but Apple has priced me out of their market. Maybe I might buy XS model after 1-2 years once it is available at half the current price. The internals are plenty fast to last 4-5 years easily. 5G won’t be here for 3-4 years at least.

Finally I might just buy One Plus 7/8 for $500 and switch to Android side permanently. I can use Android Auto on it, I can use mouse pointers and access USB-C phone storage. It will friggin let me torrent on it LMAO. I can even buy next year’s model for $600 and it would still be lower than Apple’s mid storage tier model. Apple’s value proposition is getting lower and lower.

Value proposition is low

Value proposition is low

I love the ipads, hate the phones right now with wireless (i never use) charging putting a glass back, and the ugly notch. I have a 6s plus. Please hide the sensors in a bezel over a notch.

For me the big draw of an iPhone was the fact that it was, well, a phone. I’ve had the original iPhone, 3GS, 4S, 5C, SE. So a newer one every few years on average, but I began to balk when the larger phones became a thing since I already had a mini iPad.

If not for Wi-Fi calling via my DSL I might not even have bought the SE, probably just would have kept the 5C longer, living in a dead zone for cell towers. But Wi-Fi calling let me ditch at least ditch my landline’s long distance plan and save a bundle. Then having the phone sitting next to me --and connected more or less all the time-- let me use more of the iPhone’s capabilities, and I don’t like to get too far behind the tech curve, so I went with an SE.

Since then I’ve continued to balk at the larger size phones. Also, I’d still rather use a phone for a phone, and switch to an iPad to read magazines and papers... and a laptop for all else including shopping. I always expected a phone to fit in my jeans pocket, and the fact that the later ones now don't do that has been a deterrent, never mind price points.

So I could still end up a rather hard sell in future for another iPhone. Any next purchase I make would likely just be reaction to an official EOL from Apple on the SE. That’s the point at which I’d have to decide if I really want to revert to a plain-phone or not.

Really an iPhone X fits totally fine in jeans and smaller pockets. The plus size phones are fine too but you notice the + with the x you dont. The X is basically the same size as the 4.7" phones. No issues with carrying these phones.
I can slip the iPad mini into my gym shorts and back pocket in my jeans and its much much bigger than any phone.

It's at least an inch taller, and the 5C (which was a tiny bit taller than is the SE) already stuck out of my jeans pocket. No sale!! My iPad mini fits into one of my smaller handbags but not into any pockets on clothes of mine.

Never mind. I just like the smaller phones. I had one once that was like a square lipstick container, just enough room on the screen to see the number you punched into the keyboard was correct. Must have been like an inch x inch x 3.5 inches? Perfect...

You don’t think Apple is just making more phones now than before?

If you think about it, the current iPhone lineup is the iPhone 8 offered in two size models, the iPhone XR, and iPhone Xs and Max.

Apple discontinued the iPhone SE, 6S and 7. In theory, they are not making nearly as many iPhones as they were. But obviously that is superseded with new models that are introduced every year.

Dollar for dollar, OnePlus makes the best phones you can buy right now. I love their designs and value, offering a Pixel experience for a lot less. My issue with them was that they wouldn't get their device certified for AT&T's BYOD program. You could use the phone on their network, but AT&T won't provision things like VoLTE, HD Calling and Wifi Calling... I went from the Essential to the OP5T and lost those features... Which is a pain when you are tethering a device to use the LTE hotspot, but you make a call and your data drops from LTE to HSPA(3G) and slows to a crawl.

That was a deal breaker for me... But Tmo does fully support it, as do other carriers overseas, so maybe that is more of an AT&T thing...

If they supported it, that is the only phone I would be buying... Apple makes the best tablets and watches, but their phones are... good enough. They haven't had the best phone in over half a decade, they lost that battle years ago...
