One note - screens do have a slightly different tint/colouration to them depending on the ambient lighting in a room. Sometimes my screen looks white/white and other times it looks yellowish when the sunlight is streaming in from the window. This may account for the 9c67 with a yellowish to it.
Great summary of the topic so far. These are my thoughts as a long time Thinkpad owner soon to be switching to a SR MBP :) .

Mine has the yellowish tint regardless of ambient lighting - the pictures I posted in the yellowish/gradient thread were taken in a dark room. Unfortunately, they don't show the yellow tint as I see it, but it's definitely there.

I have a glossy 2.4GHz 15.4 inch with the 9C68 screen and has been hardware calibrated with a Spyder Pro. It has absolutely no yellow discolouration at the bottom and no discernible shifts at the corners. Very happy with it.

My main question is I guess if glossy owners only have the 9C68 Samsung screen?

2.4GHz 15.4" Glossy
Model: A1226
S/N: W8722...
9C68 Samsung Panel

Out of the box, the entire display had a yellowish cast. It vanished upon calibration. The lower portion of the screen (~25%) is slightly less bright at normal viewing angles, but I wouldn't call it a color cast. Nor would I consider it a reason to return an otherwise perfect laptop. In fact, I'm not sure I would have ever noticed it if it weren't for all theses threads. :(

On the positive side, the display in my MBP looks better overall than every other laptop display I've encountered and even puts many desktop LCDs I've used to shame.

What I can't quite get my head around is why, when I look at PC laptops in the shop, most of them seem to have very even illumination and crips whites with no tint? What is Apple doing wrong? IT's not like these LED displays are cheap...

for those of you current owners of SR MBPs...do you recommend the rest of us to hold off on buying for a while due to the yellowish/flicker issues?

Really? I have a friend who just bought a Lenovo. It looks like utter crap compared to my new MBP. We did a side-by-side and I've almost got him convinced to send his laptop back and get a MBP instead.

Also, my company recently purchased several Dells for our sales team. The two I've seen first hand have dull, grainy displays. While they're not exactly terrible, they're not exactly great, either.

Sony, on the other hand, has been making real nice laptop displays for years. They look crisp, even, and bright, just like you say. Recent HPs also look pretty good.

Where Apple constantly blows it is with their default ColorSync profiles. They're always terrible! I helped a friend calibrate his 20" iMac last year and he couldn't believe the difference. Same goes for my 23" Cinema Display at work. Apple really needs to spend more time adjusting these profiles to better match the hardware they ship with. The "Color LCD" profile included with the new MBPs is probably the worst I've ever seen.

That's why I said 'in shops' : not Dells or Lenovo, the latter which used to offer the best notebook LCDs in the industry: the flexview display. Don't get me wrong. If it didn't have the yellow tint, this display would be among the best I've seen or used...

I have the 9C67 and i used to have the yellowish tint until I calibrated my screen and you can't barely notice unless you really look for it. Who makes my screen anyways? I believe it's Samsung?

Ok, I registered now to answer your plea to speak up.

I've got a 2.4 glossy, 9C67, week 22. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the display until I started reading about the yellow problems, which made me look hard at my screen trying to find it. Then I thought I did find it. But I went to an Apple Store, looked at their MBPs with 9C67 and 68 screens, and maybe one glossy 9C68 had the problem for sure, but all the others and mine pretty much look good (except that the matte displays looked a tad more grainy).

From the serial number clue, mine was manufactured in week 22 also..

So here's the current count..
7 people with the 9C67 screen had the matte finish (maybe 1 with yellow issue.. unclear)
2 people with the 9C67 screen had the glossy finish (maybe 1 with yellow issues, BTO produced in week 23)
3 people with the 9C68 screen had the matte finish (all 3 had yellow issues)
10 people with the 9C68 screen had the glossy finish (7 had yellow issues)

With more than 70% of the glossy, and 100% of matte (so far) Samsung screens yellowish, either the people without the problems are staying off the forums, or there is some sort of connection between owning a glossy MBP with the 9C68 screen that seems to give you a higher chance of ending up with a yellowish screen..

Yeah, yeah this is Apple's job to handle this, but it may not be brought to their attention quick enough without a little bit of work first..

Has anyone tried to take their MBP back to the apple store for a return? Im guessing this would be a hard problem to convice for a new one.

The problem is that even if they swap a new one with you, there is still a good chance you will get the same problem, maybe with other problems too.

I was able to exchange mine for a brand new one, and I didn't experience any of the discoloration problems. I was merely paranoid about the gap between the display.. Luckily neither had the yellow issues.

Apple has pretty good customer service, so if you're not happy with your MBP, take it to the store and explain why (it must be some legitimate reason.. but you did just drop ~$2500 and anything less than perfect is unacceptable, for me at least..)..

Don't get crazy on them, retain your calmness, and they should work with you to make you satisfied. They should just exchange your MBP with waiving the restocking fee.. but like Powerocool just said.. you risk the chance of getting one the same or worse than what you have..

i have a glossy with 9c68 as well, and didn't notice any yellowish color (at least by my eyes, i think) but i don't know it's just hard for me to tell lol sometimes i think by reading this thread and the other one regarding the issue, it got me to manifest (hopefully that's the case) the yellow color all over the screen by looking straight at it :p
how ever i don't know if you guys might have the similar thing, when i turn on my computer either osx or xp i noticed a little bleed at the bottom but the problem was gone once the operating system fully open

New count:

9 people with the 9C67 screen had the matte finish (maybe 1 with yellow issue.. unclear)
2 people with the 9C67 screen had the glossy finish (maybe 1 with yellow issues, BTO produced in week 23)
4 people with the 9C68 screen had the matte finish (3 had yellow issues)
11 people with the 9C68 screen had the glossy finish (8 had yellow issues)

Did you count me in as well? I have the 9C67 as well with no yellowish tint.

Thanks for doing this for us, we really appriciate it. hopefully everyone that owns the 9C68 can return for a new one or for the 9C67 screens.
