Steve Jobs said 300ppi = retina resolution. So Apple could give the iPhone a 3.85" display with the same resolution and still call it retina. Eventually Apple will need to figure out things to change and screen size will definitely be one

I don't think so. The iPhone 4 form factor is almost perfect to hold in your hand. Apple didn't decide on the size arbitrarily, they decided based on a number of focus group tests and research. People actually prefer this size. I have small hands and can't imagine holding something larger. Even my business partner's Blackberry Curve feels unwieldy compared to my iPhone 4. With that said, obviously Google and its partners did some research on their end as well. If I had to compare the two different sizes, I'd say Apple focused more on what feels comfortable as a phone while Google/partners focused on what may be a better interactive experience. Both are valid perspectives.

this place would be quite educational and a great resource if the android people stopped coming here to stir up arguments, you don't see iPhone users going on android forums doing the same childish things....

Sure you do.

But here's a thought. For those that have no interest - don't click in to read. It's not like the subject heading was mysterious. Posting/Continuing to post when all someone is doing is complaining is a waste of bandwidth and time on the posters part. Plus it keeps the thread at the top versus if it was REALLY of no interest, would fall off the front page pretty quickly.

And ultimately - if you don't think the thread belongs here - report it. Complaining on the thread is about as useful as making suggestions to Apple on this forum instead of submitting the request TO Apple.

i went and looked at 2 android forums just to research and i haven't seen any iPhone people making threads with titles like this one saying iPhone 4 is awesome or anything. unlike on here where you got this one saying digging the droid x, or other ones in similar vein. i have reported it, but seems mods just let crap fly around here

Well then - you've done everything you can...

I checked on a couple forums, and it seems those types get deleted pretty quick. It is the same here, post something about the iphone there, and people immediately call you a sheep or a fan-boy

saw the droid x for the first time today and used it a little, can't say i'm a fan. for one the screen quality looks terrible when compared to iphone 4. also its big and bulky and awkward to hold. overall i'm happy with my iphone 4.

The iPhone already has a good amount of black space above and below the screen. So if Apple changed the aspect ratio they could add a larger screen without even changing the form factor. On the otherhand if they kept the same ratio, removed some of the empty space and put a 4" display, it would only be about 1/4" wider.

Having a device that's a quarter of an inch wider is a small tradeoff for being able to market the device as having a 4in screen w/ 24% more screen space.

Very true there is a lot to be said for a larger display. Now that I've been using a Droid X along with my iPhone, the iPhone now looks outdated.

In addition, it's more difficult to scroll the screen above the keyboard when in the landscape mode. There is very little room for your fingers to move around.

Its not that they get deleted

1. For the most part, android fans don't really care much about the iphone, so they don't start any of the threads themselves

2.Iphone posts get moved to the other devices forum

3. When a post about the iphone does survive in the forum, it is usually a short discussion before people just start talking about android again.

Long story short, there is too much going on with Android for anyone to care what shenanigans Uncle Steve is up to. The iPod touch news is more interesting than iPhone4 news. The iPhone4 was obsoleted by the EVO before it even came out.

Ironically, the new ipod touch has the same features making it the most advanced dedicated media player (unless Samsung's new one can beat it)

no, they just come here and post threads about androids in an iPhone forum....

I think its more like, those that are Android owners aren't SOLELY Android owners. I would say most own an Apple product (iPod, nano, MBP, etc)

Whereas the Apple fanbase is strictly Apple only. Everything and anything Apple only.

So this is the reason imo, why we have such a dichotomy on Macrumors. Reason why people don't post about iPhone on android forums is that the iPhone is well known, and I would assume most have used an iOS device either from friends/family or they own one themselves.

I didn't join macrumors to troll. I joined macrumors because i had purchased an iPad on launch day, and have been lurking in and out of the forums since '05.

I don't own any apple products. I don't even have quicktime on my PC (use VLC to decode it).

I am also not a professional athlete or scientist, but that doesn't keep me from reading those forums either.

Here here. I think one of the reasons I enjoy these forums the most is because of the open dichotomy and discussions that one can have. One is simply sharing their experiences. Who knows, Apple might be looking at this forum for inspiration for new ideas and to see what the real beat is about their products.

Generally, when I read these threads, it's about someone's experience that they want to share. Most are past iPhone owners wanting to give some feed back as to what Apple can do better and make us better informed consumers. At the end of the day, isn't being a better consumer all that matters?

Very true.

Apple has very good intelligent regarding new devices the competition is about to release. This is why the iPhone4 was rushed to market before it was properly debugged. Apple knew of the impending release of several formidable Android smartphones. So Jobs threw caution to the wind in order to get out in front of the Droid X and others.

The problem is the iPhone was riddled with faults whereas the Android phones were completely ready for their debut. Now riding significant momentum, Android has captured the imagination of the public.
