It's disappointing; I don't want Toy Story watch faces; mickey mouse was bad enough.

I'd like to see mature, elegant watch faces.

And the Apple Watch does such nice a job with leather and link bands, more traditional Watch faces would compliment the already refined appeal of the stainless model I own.

I agree also. I mean at least the Mickey Mouse watch face was based on a classic look from real watches. The Toy Story thing just looks gimmicky. It pains me to think what awesome watch faces they COULD have come up with if they had used those design resources for something else instead of Toy Story.

So I just watched the WWDC bit about WatchOS 4 and I have to say the new watch faces are a huge disappointment. Like many other Watch owners I have been anxiously awaiting new faces mostly out of boredom with the existing gallery...I am shocked (or maybe I shouldn't be) with just how bad these new ones are.

Okay, the Siri face might be useful to some. For me, I hardly use Siri at all, I don't have lots of meetings and flights that I need to be reminded about, I drive back and forth to work five days a week so I've got a pretty good idea how long it's gonna take. Honestly I don't need a "dynamic" stream of information that updates all day. Maybe I just have a dull life? Oh and appearance-wise the Siri face is pretty...dull.

Kaleidoscope face? Interesting concept but did anyone else notice how hard it was to make out the hands against that background? What an awful choice for a watch face. I don't think you could design anything more illegible. I would like to be able to read the time on my Apple Watch.

Toy Story characters...okay I am a Disney fan and I love the Mickey face. I use it every time I visit Disneyland. And I like Pixar and the Toy Story movies. But seriously, out of the entire catalog of great Disney characters, why Toy Story? REALLY?! Why not Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy...even Oswald? So many fun classic characters and we get Toy Story?!

Well rant over. I do love my Apple Watch, but I guess we'll still be waiting for cool faces. You would think with the resources and talent that Apple has at their disposal they could do better with something as simple as a watch face. With any luck a couple more decent ones might get thrown in before release.

Thoughts? Am I alone on this one? :D
I completely agree. I would pay $10 for that HERMES face.

Ah, but it's Hermes, so Hermes would want you to pay at least $100 for that face. And of course Apple would want a generous cut of that, too. ;)

I do wonder why Apple doesn't play up to the rectangular face more with its own original face that totally owns the rectangle. I'm so tired of its usual "let's stick a circular dial in a rectangle body" thing it does ad nauseum. There are so many vintage "tank watch" faces Apple could pay tribute to.

I agree. I would love to see some square faces. But then the Hermes face would lose some exclusivity.

I think these Watch face changes are coming, hopefully by WatchOS 5. Apple knows the consumer wants options and variety. Unfortunately, We are on Apple's time line, not the other way around.

But interestingly in many ways Apple traditionally limits options and variety, for a number of reasons I think. One, for simplicity. But in the case of watch faces I think it's more to protect the look and design of the product. They want the Apple Watch to have a certain design aesthetic and controlling the selection of faces is an effective way to do that.

I don't get the complaints about watch faces. There is only so many ways to display the time. Being able to add complications to an exists face is all I need on a 1 inch screen.

Dislaying the time doesn't expand on the actual Watch face. Most want to see new overall watch face designs. The complications and colors are smaller customizations. But it its the actual Watch face as a whole that could use additional options.

Considering the Apple Watch like the timepiece , It's has to be unique from other smart watch.
Think about how much many company have to pay for to show Ads on Time Square or NFL screen.

I used the Solar face until Apple finally gave us the opportunity to use our own photos as watch faces......and I've been doing that ever since. I really don't care about some of the gimmicky or cutesy watch faces on offer now; my Apple watch is unique because of my own watch face photos on it.

Just wondering, I have installed the beta on my 1st Generation Apple Watch, and have the new features such as Flashlight on the watch, however I do not have any of the new watch faces (SIRI, Kaleidoscope etc..) I know the Toy Story faces are not available yet but how about the others? Will they be available on the Gen 1 Apple Watch?

Thanks!

Right. The poster acknowledged that. But what about the other faces?
Yeah I thought the beta had the Siri and Kaleidoscope faces...would be a shame if they are not available on the S0 watches. Not that I would use them anyway.

Any Watch faces available on WatchOS 4 will be made available on the first Generation Apple Watch when it releases in September. That includes all WatchOS 4 features.

Yes, very disappointed with the watch faces again.

How hard is it to come up with at least one or two decent digital faces; or at least some more flexibility over modular which hasn't changed at all since the start? It's really annoying you still can't see the seconds on that face. Indeed the only way to get digital seconds is still that one face with the rings, which is pretty pointless if you don't use if for fitness.

It seems to be pretty important to you. I doubt anything Apple could come up with impress you.

Have a go at it yourself. While you cannot actually create a watch face, you could create an app that has a watch face that has the exact look you desire. The cool thing would be that it could be one of a kind, as Apple doesn't allow apps that have the primary purpose of displaying time. That will not stop you from deploying it to your own watch.

Good luck!

PS. I do agree with you that Apple should let developers create faces, but can understand Apple's resistance due to the huge possibility of copyright infringements bound to surface as developers create knockoffs.

Isn’t there supposed to be a new “Explorer” face? That’s the one I really wanted
