So all these rumors, one that keeps grabbing my eye is the iPad ones. They say the smaller iPad Pro will be increased to 11” with a reduction of bezels and Face ID, but never mention an increase to the 12.9, although they mention it will also get the bezel and Face ID treatment.

I'm guessing this means that the 12.9 will just become smaller. I just don't understand why Apple wouldn't just increase the 12.9's screen in relation to the bezel reduction like the smaller pro, I would absolutely love a larger screen in the same form factor, I got the 12.9 because I wanted a massive screen, increasing it and keeping the device at the same size would overjoy me.

Tl;dr: It seems like Apple won't be increasing the 12.9's screen when they reduce the bezels, as a 12.9 owner, are you happy with this?

I don’t really care, as long as they don’t reduce it.

I’m worried they’ll throw a notch on both (justifying the 10.5-11 increase) but then decrease the viewable area of the 12.9 by throwing a notch on but not increasing.

If they don’t increase the screen of the 12.9 the difference to the new 11“ „small“ iPP might get too close to justify two models....

Current physical dimensions of the Pro 12.9 are pretty spot on for letter-size bond paper and quite close to A4. I'd like to see a bigger display with reduction in bezel size while keeping the same physical dimensions and weight.

That’s what I was thinking, they keep increasing the smaller one, but leave the other alone. Perhaps they’re testing the market to find a sweet spot and eliminate the 12.9?

Apple actually did (slightly but I notice it, especially while reading) decrease the weight of the 12.9 between gen 1 and 2, I don’t see why they couldn’t do it again.

A small amount of bezel is desirable for a tablet in order to prevent unintentionally activating apps simply by holding it like any other tablet.

I think it would be ideal if they maintained the same dimensions of the current 12.9" Pro and replaced the bezel with more screen space.

I like the physical size of the Smart Keyboard so I’d prefer it if the dimensions of the tablet didn’t change much. I’d be fine with a reduction in bezel size (and increase in screen size as a result) but would prefer to not lose Touch ID.

Based upon the updated rumors it sounds like Touch ID will be lost which is a real bummer IMO. Security policy imposed upon my device due to having corporate email on it requires locking the tablet. I have a sneaky feeling that the convenience of Touch ID is going to be sacrificed when FaceID replaces it despite any improvements Apple makes to the tech since the iPhone X launch.

I totally understand that for many the reverse will be true - they’ll appreciate being able to unlock their tablets without taking gloves off or worrying about wet fingers etc. etc. For me, the workflow is just fine as it is. Still, I’m excited to see what they’ll release even if I won’t upgrade to one anytime soon.

I’ve been using the 12.9 since it’s launch in late 2015. I love it. I travel with it for work daily. However, I wouldn’t mind keeping the screen size the same and losing the bezels. Lighter and a little smaller with the same screen size would be great to me.

In terms of the actual size of the 12.9 iPad Pro currently, I would *not* want anything larger than that. It’s already large enough and unwieldy to hold unless it’s supported by a case or a stand. But I also expect With the introduction of Face ID to make a significant difference with the display and elimination of the home button.

I think I would rather have an overall smaller footprint (smaller, lighter) than a larger screen. I would love a new Apple Smart Keyboard with an extra row of function keys and maybe a dedicated Siri button.

I spoiled my Mom and bought her a 12.9 Pro last year (and then went back a week later and purchased one for myself). After using it daily I really can't see myself going smaller (or larger for that matter).

I've had standard ipads, airs, and mini's, and I really feel that the 12.9 Pro is the perfect size.

From the rumors i’ve read, it looks like Apple is going to keep the ipad pros the same physical size, but just increase the screen size while decreasing the bezels. So i assume that means the 10.5” will become an 11” screen and the 12.9” will become a 13.5” screen. Personally, i would also love to see a bezel-less ipad mini with an 8.5” screen instead of the current 7.9”...but perhaps thats just wishful thinking.

And who knows what Apple plans to do. Maybe they’ll combine the 12.9” & 10.5” into one 11” bezel-less ipad pro. Maybe they will only announce that one size ipad pro X this fall, just like they did with the iphone x last year. And maybe they will release a 10.5” & 12.9” with bezels, no face id & updated insides alongside this new 11” bezel-less ipad pro with face id. Just like they did with the iphone 8 & 8plus alongside the iphone x last year.

I am just guessing here.

I'm quite happy with the 12.9" display size - my needs aren't such that larger would be a benefit. However, the case dimensions are a bit much for me, so smaller case, same-size display would be my pick.

Looking at my Smart Keyboard, it seems they can trim the left and right edges a bit and still retain the same keyboard layout (compare the 12.9" to the 10.5," where the keys go nearly to the edges). If anything, you can say that the 12.9" Smart Keyboard currently has large "bezels."

I understand the concerns about the possibility of a notch, but I don't think it's functionally justifiable - to support holdability, there will likely still be enough bezel to place the camera and sensors outside the display area. I don't see Apple going to an edge-to-edge display on these iPads, and the extra cost entailed in building the notch into the display doesn't seem justifiable. However, it's easier to imagine them going edge-to-edge for an iPad Mini Pro (not that there are any rumors of a new Mini of any type). Essentially, the smaller the display, the more justifiable the notch.

Even though I would personally like to see the 12.9 keep its same screen size while becoming overall smaller by removing the bezels, Im guessing Apple will keep the same footprint size so that they don't have to make a smaller Smart Keyboard. No matter, Ill be buying it.

The screen to body ratio of the 12.9 is not so bad already because the bezels are not larger than the ones from 9.7 iPad but the display is. So cutting the bezels from the 12.9 would not bring that much benefit but will made it much more difficult to hold the heavier iPad...

The only reason I didn’t get the 12.9 last time around is because of the overal size and weight. If they managed to get that down, I’m very tempted to upgrade my 10.5”.

Why upgrade screen size soon it will be a point too where you can’t take your big screen iPad size any where any more I think 9.7 size for the pro is the right size
