Why upgrade screen size soon it will be a point too where you can’t take your big screen iPad size any where any more I think 9.7 size for the pro is the right size

I'm glad the 9.7 works for you. However, do a lot of my work in split screen. The 9.7 is like having two iPhones side by side. Just not big enough. Yes, I put up with the smaller size since iPad 1. But now I have a choice. Taking the 12.9 around "everywhere" isn't an issue. MacBook Pros are larger and people travel with them. All for the very reasons most people wouldn't buy a laptop the size of two iPhones. Having choices is a good thing.

If you are doing productive work with the iPad the 12.9 is a no-brainer. I used the iPads 1-4 for years of productive work and they weight nearly the same as the 12.9. They only drawback of the early iPads was the size and that is solved since the 12.9 arrives. The size doesn't matter for carrying it around because you need a bag that is at least the size of the 12.9 anyway.

My concern is that a larger screen just means a new screen resolution that developers are not going to support.

True although they could possibly hold the 2732x2048 resolution and allow the ppi to drop a little, say from 264 to 240. The "retina" mackbook pros have a ppi of 220. I think if they simply shrank the side bezels on the current 12.9 and held the resolution the ppi would only drop to 240 or so.

Heresy! We need PPI to INCREASE, not to decrease.

I love the 12.9 but I’d love a weight decrease. I find compared to the 9.7 I used prior to it that I rarely hold and use it casually like an iPad. Spends 90% of the time in landscape on the ASK. The 9.7 had a good 50/50 mix of portrait tablet like use and landscape ASK use.

Would’ve preferred a larger screen. Creative pro users like myself look for this to maximize the devices capabilities.
If you want something more compact the 10.5’ is already a very good option. It would be nice to see

Different creative pros, like myself, may prize something other than maximum size. It shouldn't mean that i must drop from a 12.9" display to a 10.5" display so that you may have a 13.7" (or whatever). Perhaps Apple needs to introduce an even larger Pro model, in the 15" range, in order to make everyone happy?

The size reduction I have in mind is relatively small - if they eliminate the Home button and reduce the width of the bezels in a manner consistent with the change from 9.7" to 10.5" they have a further choice - maintain the current aspect ratio, or move to another. If they maintain the ratio then the device can be smaller while still delivering a larger screen.

I switched from 12.9 to 10.5 because it was too big for me. If they can significantly reduce the size and weight I’m back at 12.9 because this screen is amazing.

The size I doubt they would decrease (Aside from the rumors) if they were to retain the 12.9“ form factor, but the weight is not due just to the size of the iPad, its due to the batteries. So there has to be a trade off somewhere when you have a larger iPad, obviously it’s going to require larger batteries increasing the weight.

It really takes almost double the weight of the device in battery to power 2.4” increase in screen size? That trade off will never be worth it if true.

I'd be interested if they were able to reduce the size and weight of the 12.9 - I use mine a lot at a desk so the size would be great, but I have opted for the 10.5 until now because the size and weight hasn't been great for mobile use. Excited to see what they do here.

I'd love my iPad Pro 10.5" to come with a smaller chassis, not a bigger screen just smaller dimensions to the body.

Ideal World (a freeview shopping channel) were selling a whole load of iPad 4's pretending that they were the latest thing, not once mentioning specifications, just that it was the iPad for £400 recently.

I coughed up a little coffee onto my MacBook, partly because of their brazen cheek at putting that price on a 6 year old tablet but also because of the size of the bezels on that thing. It looked comical.

I believe Apple could get away with reducing bezels on the top and bottom of their current devices, the sides not so much.

Not sure, but I would consider it. Bigger would be better in some of my use cases, but maybe worse in others. Definitely not smaller.

I agree. I myself appreciate a larger size iPad in terms of you view-ability with the display rather it be for media or documents. That alone to me is worth the upgrade, even though I primarily use my iPad stationary on a desk or table.

I generally use mine in my hands, sometimes propped up on my lap. People are different, I guess. One thing I know is that the 10.5" screen is big enough for me - I hope a couple of years down the line Apple still sells an iPad at that size, I'm sure they will.

I'd probably prefer a reduction in physical dimensions on balance, though as an alternative I could potentially drop down to an 11.5" if they decided to fill the existing chassis as it were.

I drop down to 11.5" means a massive reduction in screen real estate! For people that are using iPads for other things than media consumption or light productive work (like email checking) this would be a real disadvantage. Hope that the numbers of "real productive" apps (like photoshop) and pro users will rise in the future so that the need for big display sizes will be more acknowledged...

Sure, and I'm not saying I'd want them to stop making a 12.9" option - it's just that overall while I do like the screen size, at this juncture I would prioritise a smaller, lighter device even if it meant having a noticeably smaller screen (the 10.5 is just a tad too small for me but 11.5 would probably be OK). My preferred option though would be keeping the 12.9 screen (or approximately that) and shrinking the body of the iPad around it.

iPads are thin enough and really not heavy at all. Any further reductions than that will potentially cause issues around overheating, less battery and throttling as people want a more power, capable IPad. By removing bezels they can increase/reduce size of IPads without it affecting its current size of screens. Looking forward to the new Ipads whenever they are released and the changes in IOS 13 that will apparently up the Ipad’s Capabilities again.

So all these rumors, one that keeps grabbing my eye is the iPad ones. They say the smaller iPad Pro will be increased to 11” with a reduction of bezels and Face ID, but never mention an increase to the 12.9, although they mention it will also get the bezel and Face ID treatment.

I'm guessing this means that the 12.9 will just become smaller. I just don't understand why Apple wouldn't just increase the 12.9's screen in relation to the bezel reduction like the smaller pro, I would absolutely love a larger screen in the same form factor, I got the 12.9 because I wanted a massive screen, increasing it and keeping the device at the same size would overjoy me.

Tl;dr: It seems like Apple won't be increasing the 12.9's screen when they reduce the bezels, as a 12.9 owner, are you happy with this?

The 10.5” iPP will increase its screen to 11.0” and the 12.9” iPP will increase its screen to 13.3” these were the screen sizes for the 11” and 13.3” MacBook Air, which the iPP like is replacing.

The screen and battery quality on the iPP exceeds even the 12” retina MacBook. Four speakers vice two, two cameras vice one (may be more with FaceID). Touchscreen, faster refresh rate, flexibility of landscape or portrait mode, etc. There are external WiFi HDD available for local storage or the cloud. I personally use cloud storage and a NAS. I have a 64GB 12.9” iPP 2nd Gen and I have quite a bit of local storage available.

The SmartKeyboard and ApplePencil are the best things about this “computer” as far as accessories go. I only run up against a few very limiting things with online services, however those were designed with a traditional OS in mind, something that can be redesigned easily within web applications or open iOS Files.app capabilities more.

Prior to this I owned a 11” MBAir and a 13.3” retina MBPro, took some getting used to in changing workflow, however a positive transition nonetheless. No regrets, imagine an iPP 2018 model with 8GB of LPDDR ram, considering the iPhone lineup will receive 3-4GB of ram.
