They’re just wireless EarPods and I’ve used them. Seriously, I don’t know why you guys are so defensive. I never insulted your choice. I just don’t see the value in them myself at that price.

My opinion doesn’t stop you buying them. I’m not acting like those Apple haters who insult anyone who chooses to use an Apple product. I have simply observed that Apple typically overcharge for their accessories. The case is a nifty idea but it’s not like it’s made of titanium or something. Definitely not worth over £100.

Back on point. I was very skeptical about trying AirPods because EarPods always seem to fall out on me, but I caved. Glad I did, they do fit much better for me than standard issue EarPods. I bought hooks from Spigen just in case before going on a trip. Walked all through the airports and hotels without them falling out.

Why waste such an obscene amount of money on AirPods when Apple’s earphones are meh quality anyway. I just picked up some Anker Bluetooth earphones for £15.99 and they’re great. Paired no trouble at all. Apple accessories are always stupid expensive.

So for you the answer is don’t buy them. Millions have and love them. They sound night and day above the standard EarPods.

I had the same concern as the OP. And not knowing anyone personally that owned AirPods just made the guessing game difficult.
While on a trip, I visited an Apple store and luckily one of the staff had their personal set on them. They were more than happy to let me try on. That did it for me. The AirPods fit way better than the EarPods. Then again fit is highly subjective and will vary from person to person.
Ordered them as soon as I got home and never been happier.
Tip : A few days after owning them I noticed they would slip/fall out when I bed where I do most of my video/YT watching. I read somewhere most likely here that wiping off the inner ear cavity before using them helps. And it certainly did. Maybe it’s got to do with the oil that develops on the skin especially in the ears that made them slippery. No longer an issue.
For me the AirPods have been exactly what apple claims, Magical. Granted I use them “only” at home and only for movie watching/YT/office calls. And they work fabulously. The battery life is just that as well, Magical. I have developed a practice to charge the case only at the beginning of the week and often I end an entire week with the case still left with 50%+ charge.
As for sound quality, Obviously outdoor usage will be different as they would not isolate external sound as well. For my limited use case they work wonderfully. Hope this helps for anyone that’s on the fence.

They fit a lot better in my ear than the corded pods for sure. I can barely tell they're in my ear and I can wear them for hours. I really love these things and I didn't think I would. If they ever make a new version though I will probably have Colorware make black versions for me. The white ones look like Q-tips.

That’s the point; the case. It’s all about how it all works together and works well. No one says it’s HD800 level. The sound is better than the majority of equal options. The cost is slightly higher than comparable BT earbuds. The Case, it’s all about the case for me. Take for example jaybirds, you can argue the SQ. lightness etc. But when they die you’re done recharging is a hassle. On AirPods you pop them in for 15 min, and you back rolling. Now if you are doing an audio book, news, sports or anything that can go single ear listing then you can go unlimited. Charge one listen to the other and keep the case charging. That is a game changer for me and a now must have feature for the variety of things is listen to. However is do use the ear wings which helps me keep them in.

I think we just differ on the view of quality ear buds, which is fine. You're used to high end gear, whereas I've used low-mid end Ear Buds in the past.

To me, Airpods aren't just wireless Earpods. The audio difference was obvious from the start. They're a much more practical product which has allowed me use Ear buds daily, when I hadn't used them often at all for years.

I'm now listening to more music than ever & can work more productively whilst communicating hands/cord free for hours of my day. Gym workouts fly now that I can listen to what I want, with a product that's in sync with my iPhone & sans annoying cables whilst moving around.

House-hold chores are bearable now that I have my music with me all the time.

Airpods, with their ergonomic & seamless implementation that compliment the iPhone have dramatically changed how I go about my days & are definitely worth what I paid for them imo.

I've never been able to get earpods to fit properly, but always thought it was mainly down to the cable pulling downwards and unseating them. I managed to get my hands on AirPods last Christmas time and while they were indeed a slightly better fit the one in my right ear would continually fall out with minimal of head movement on my part. I returned them soon after and haven't been back to them since.

Although I did see a hack posted on this site regarding nexcare tape and a hole punch to add areas with a bit more grip to the AirPods. I may be tempted to try them again soon.

this is something I am struggling with as well. My wife is looking at these for me for a holiday gift, but earpods always fall out...

Same as others, can’t use EarPods except when sitting because the cable yanks them out, but the airpods have stayed in for 6-7 mile runs. The only place where I run into issues is if laying down perfectly flat while lifting. Laying down with some elevation (I.e. in bed with a pillow) is not an issue.

As others have said, AirPods do fit better than EarPods just because of the removal of the weight of the cord. That said, if EarPods won’t stay in your ears at all, don’t expect a snug and solid fit with AirPods. Mine will stay in, but they are always loose and will fall out with the slightest wrong move of my head. There’s no way I could possibly wear them to work out.

I put off buying a set of AirPods for almost a year because I'd never been happy with the fit of Apple's standard wired EarPods. I figured the AirPods design looked similar, so I never bothered with a demo. However after I finally purchased a pair of AirPods, I was surprised how much better they actually fit. Forget about worrying they'll fall out - - I barely even notice when I've got mine on.

{To clarify - - by "fit", I mean how well the AirPods sit in your ears, so not just their shape, but also including other factors such as the lack of the weight of the cables pulling down on standard EarPods, which most posters here have cited as a key factor.}

I Find the AirPods fit approximately the same As the earpods. But the major difference being between the AirPods and EarPods, is you don't have the weight of the wires pulling down on the AirPods. The AirPods are so light in my ear and comfortable, I forgot I'm even wearing them during my workouts.

The minimal weight of the wires is probably the only factor. As far as the fit goes in-ear, it’s the same.

Actually the Airpods are ever so slightly bulkier, which is hard to notice when you look at them, but you feel the difference when you put them on. Also the larger "stem" helps the Airpods to stay in place so they don't wiggle around in the ear.

Mine fit better but not because the shape is different. It's because the cord isn't pulling on them. I took a pair of EarPods and cut the wire to test it before I bought. Worked perfect. Got mine on launch day and use them everyday.

Mine fit the same. Neither will stay in my ears. But I do still use my AirPods all the time, just with earskinz or ear hooks.

My EarPods needed adjusting every couple of minutes when out walking. Once they're in, AirPods are completely fixed. They're so light and no cables pulling them down. It's quite impressive.

EarPods are great when they stay in place, but they wiggle out of place within a few steps of walking. How much better do AirPods stay in place? Also, is it smart to buy AirPods now, or should I wait for the 2nd generation?
