Was it WP8 or the phone itself or both? If both which one was the deciding factor?

It was WP8. The phone also had a terrible power button which was really flush and hard to use but it was WP8. I had most of my apps or alternatives so it wasn't really that but I just felt limited in what the OS can do. Small things like how to switch to silent and vibrate and hoe there's no system wide rotation lock annoyed me too much.

Yeah the power button on the 8X was really brutal... I mean truly awful....

But yes the lack of apps was really inhibiting... (although now I'm using a Z10 - compared to BB10 the windows marketplace is veritable feast!)

But for €227 you really can't go wrong, and even if you decided to sell it later you'd get most of your money back at that price.

Put it this way bud http://www.adverts.ie/mobile-phones/samsung-ativ-s/3404619

So yeah €227 is worth a shot :) heck second hand ones are getting offers of €220 at least on adverts. At most you'll lose €7...

Have I convinced you yet ;-)

I am on the same boat...
Currently have an iPad 4, iPhone 5 and old macbook pro used mainly for media management with itunes and some more "serious browsing" and downloading.
Everything works great together, but I am kind of bored and looking at the discounted WP8 phones...

Lumia 820, HTC 8X and Ativ S.
All of these are currently 200 Euros, give or take...

SHould I buy ine just to explore WP8?

Cheers!

Just a suggestion...

You might want to make it a practice to read a few of the posts preceding yours...the "dare you" thing has been done...and overdone already.:D ;)

I did....i read the WHOLE thread...yet for some reason you chose to reply in a negative fashion to me and not the poster right after mine that pretty much said the said thing i did only in all caps. Why?

My reply was not intended to be negative as evidenced by TWO smilies (;):D).

I'm sorry that you misinterpreted my intent...

You'll be fine. It seems that the Ativ S is merely an American Galaxy S III (dual core) running Windows Phone.

Is it better than an 8X or lumia 820?
The lumia seems to have the edge with the Nokia Apps. But it lower on resolution.
Are those nokia apps worth it?

Cheers!

Well yes and no.

Yes it's the WP8 version of the GS3.

The only thing it has in common with it though is the screen.

Actually, if you compare it with the US-spec Galaxy S III. It shares the same CPU (albeit with 1GB less RAM). I assume the camera is the same too as it's also 8 MP.

I had Lumia 822 and went to the 8X. I haven't missed the Nokia apps at all.

From what i read, the main apps are an offline GPS navigation and a music streaming app, right?
Are there any more nokia apps worth mentioning?
FOr naviagtion, can I use something online like I use apple maps on the iPhone? SOmething from Bing I suppose...

Cheers!

Nokia seems to be porting apps over to other manufacturers.

Ah yes forgot about that.

I wouldn't quite sell the 4 yet. Just precautionary. It's highly possible you wont like the phone, and be "stuck" with it.

My plan is to give my wife the iPhone 5 sell the 4 and if I don't like the Ativ S sell that and get the iPhone 5S or what ever it will be called.

The off line gps is really the only one I'm interested in at the moment.

I knew if we dared, double dared, etc. it would get you!

I must say that your decision indicates that you are a total wild man...living out on the dangerous and ragged edge!:eek:

I hope you enjoy whatever phone you choose!:D

One day, the MR membership will end up "daring" a not-so-bright and impressionable member into killing himself, jumping off a bridge, or something criminally tragic, etc. It might start off as harmless jokes, but the results will be front page news.

I don't remember all the apps that were available at the time, but Nokia Music and maps and navigation were the big ones. Now Nokia has made their Here maps and Nokia drive navigation available for all windows phone devices, or at least wp8. Nokia does have some pretty nice apps for touching up pictures.

Just now the price has dropped to €209.

My order hasn't processed yet and there are no pending chargers on my credit card.

Does anyone know will Amazon charge me the new lower price when they process the order or do I need to cancel the order and reorder it with the new price?
