How do the employees or managers hold themselves back and not take a peek inside the box? Do these boxes have alarms that instantly notify Steve Jobs if they are opened early?

All they have to say is they tripped and fell on the box and ripped it open :D

FYI stores in SF got huge boxes of "do not open" stock today

At the time you posted this, it would have been 22:30PDT - surely there would be something on MacRumors, AppleInsider or 9to5mac by now?

Sorry for the scepticism, all the false rumours have made me a weary old man!

No, but there's an entire network of snitches loyal to Jobs. Any "rebel", will be up against the entrenched dictator and troops that remain loyal to him. Meanwhile NATO drones......wait...my bad.

BTW: Just don't use the word 'Hitler', or you WILL be fired immediately.

The Mac stores probably have very specific layouts for how they store their merchandise.

My guess would be they have security cameras that watch over everything.

I think it's mostly the employees don't want to get caught and fired. I think I remember a year or two ago someone did open one of the boxes and we got pictures online. I think it was MacBook Pro's but I don't really remember.

I think that was the last MBP update back in February because the leaked pictures showed the new Thunderbolt logo.

Apple stores receive new a day early, and it is set up in store over night or couple of hours before store opens depending on how they work.

Jus asked a friend who is one of the top at the store in my town and that what he said.. Tomorrow?

So how does this work? Do they open the store with new airs at the pacific time or would it be out at a decent hour for those of us on the east coast?

You are assuming two things:
1. there actually has been a 'do not open' box delivery
2. the boxes actually contain Airs

Just trying to keep your hopes down in case this doesn't turn out to be the real deal :)

With 9to5Mac saying the new part numbers were for updated minis and a MacBook, if that's true, it's not boding well for an Air update tomorrow.

you didn't read the fine print... at the end of the 9to5Mac post there was a very important line:

"The MacBook Air part numbers were correct and they are still coming very soon. We are still expecting new Mac Pros later this month or early next month."
