I know that companies in general cooperate with law enforcement. I'm mostly referring to big tech like Facebook and Google. They're no longer private companies when the government is using them as an extension of their reach to harvest data and silence opposing opinions. People are getting arrested for sharing ideas that should otherwise be protected as free speech.

But you are correct. Privacy is dying in the digital age. And I agree that it's probably completely pointless to worry about privacy anymore at this point. It's so far gone that I don't think anything can be done about it. People flocking to garbage services like ProtonMail and putting their trust in a company that is basically an NSA honeypot disguised as encrypted email, it's getting a bit ridiculous.

There are many ways to prevent spam, though. But that's about all we can do.

The upside to all this data harvesting is it makes the user experience far more tailored. I do miss when I had a Google Pixel and literally everything on the phone was catered to me, my habits, and my interests. Also Google Assistant is far more helpful than Siri in every conceivable way. Except Google is seriously starting to suck lately as they are censoring anything that isn't left-leaning.

The world is going to crap.

I would be interested in seeing your proof of Proton being an NSA honeypot disguised as encrypted email.
I agree with your comment about Google's biased censorship.
I strongly agree with "The world is going to crap".

not as my main account but yes i use icloud.

for one, it's got everything to do with my apple account so my subscription stuff and any receipts/proof of insurance for iOS or product purchases goes there and all my iCloud "hide my email" alias are forwarded to it. so i use it a lot.

gmail was my main email provider but i moved to outlook. i did think about going all in with iCloud but decided against it. if i remember right it was because it didn't work properly with the windows mail client but i've ditched that now. probably i'll move back to gmail. outlook isn't bad but i have other microsoft products/services and i don't like having all my eggs in one basket. i don't even have a google account anymore and haven't for about 3 years.

I don't use my icloud email. But I do love hide my email feature from iCloud+. Firefox does the same thing but without cloud storage.

I don't think I have ever had any problems with the iPhone/iPad/Mac Mail + iCloud for Mail.

However just noticed that at some point my Outlook account in iPhone Mail had just quietly stopped working and I missed one important email. I went back to using my Outlook account with the Outlook app.

Outlook's MS Exchanges had couple of bugs in recent months. You can try use IMAP instead by creating app password if you enabled 2FA

I used .Mac and .me for ages and recently moved to Fastmail and I like it much better. I have a gmail account since it was invite only, but I haven’t used it for a long time.

I noticed that all mails were available on my Mac and iPad, so I think the problem was on the iPhone and/or Mail client.

That seems like a scam.

Good times never seemed so good.
So good! So good! :)
No, it wasn't a scam. In the early days when Gmail was first starting up, they did it by sending out a limited number of invitations to website owners, developers, etc, and encouraged those people to share an invitation with their friends. One of my friends happened to be an early invitee and sent me and a couple of our mutual friends invitations, too, so I took advantage of it. I still have and use that account.

iCloud email has some good features. One negative is that it blocks people it may perceive as Spam very aggressively.
And by blocking, I don't mean putting it in the Junk folder, which would be fine. It will just block it, and you will NEVER know.
That's why iCloud is a terrible choice for verification emails for instance.

Yes I use my .mac / .me account and have had pretty good luck with it through the years. I have other accounts as well that are not Apple and most do fine as well.

Interesting. Over the years I have used my main address, aliases and lately hide-my-email addresses and I don’t remember ever having any issues (with verification for example).

I use iCloud Mail, though my main alternate email is AOL, believe it or not. I receive effectively no spam on AOL or iCloud, but back when I had Gmail, the amount of spam getting past the filters was ridiculous.

Good. But it can happen. And there is no recourse when it does. Unclear why Apple adopts this block policy rather than just marking as Spam and letting user determine if a mistake has been made. It also does so wrongly.
Im not an Alphabet fan but this does not happen with Gmail.
Being able to use your own domain with iCloud though is a great feature and so is the simplicity of hide my email

I don't think I've had mail just dropped silently, but I'll second that iCloud mail is very aggressive about sending things to my junk folder. I thought it was supposed to learn when I moved things back to my inbox, but it doesn't seem to take lessons well.

I have wanted to switch my email with custom domain to icloud since this was offered. My issue is the web based email honestly stinks. If I was 100% mac it wouldn't be an issue but a Windows pc is a must at work. I suppose I could use something like Thunderbird but I would prefer to everything staying Apple.

I had a very sensitive data in my Gmail . I wanted store emails offline, the most suitable file format is PDF. If you're looking for a convenient method to export Gmail emails to PDF, you can read the blog How To Export Gmail Emails To PDF For Backup? , I used their tool Gmail backup software . I found it awesome and seamless.

A great thing about iCloud: there's somebody you can call--Apple support--if you have an issue. Good luck getting someone to help you fix your Gmail or yahoo account.

I've been using iCloud for email for so long that I actually have one of my aliases as iCloud@iCloud.com . Yeh, that's right! I've been using it since before iCloud.com was the defaulted domain, when MobileMe was still a thing. In fact, I still prefer using my @me.com alias over the iCloud.com alias.

Oh and on a separate note, I also happened to have been one of the very first Gmail users ever. I was included in the first 1,000 Gmail individual invitations that went out to very select people by Google, all back when Gmail was still very hush hush.

Which domain came first @icloud, @Mac or @me? Or was there an even earlier domain?

I use @Mac but reading some of the posts here might switch to me.com - liking the sound of it 😂
