i freaking hate squared edges ,very unergonomic and painfully sharp

allows for thinner bezels tho i believe ,and more importantly, more solid overall

just curious if you guys think it's likely to come back

i'd like to avoid buying a squared iphone for as long as possible

Painfully sharp?

My own preference is for the current squared off design.
I hated the slippery as anything soap bar designs…

I hope the squared edges stay as long as possible.

What are these squared corners you are talking about? They look rounded to me.

well for me they have been painful yes,but i can understand people dont mind them

thing is ,it remains kinda hard to hold even with a case from what i remember ,because it still feels thick and squared...

Now, im not going to criticise as others have as I actually do relate to your point a bit.

Firstly, Id say that 'painfully sharp' seems to be a slight exaggeration sorry!..

But, that said, the current design does feel slightly less comfortable to me than the curved edge one... and this is exacerbated when using the pro model with the stainless steel sides as I do find that the steel iPhone is less comfortable in the hand than the anodised aluminium one. The 13 pro is less comfortable to hold than the 13 (though not sharp!).

But, again... to me its all a moot point as I am far too scared to ever have an phone thats not in a case - never use it naked - so once a case in on then the material and shape just doesn't matter in the slightest anymore.

This looks pretty much rounded to me, what am I missing?

Oh, right! You want rounded edges.

If it interests you, I am still on XS Max. 😁

I hope notchless iPhone will have iPhone 12 like design because I am a bit nostalgic for iPhone 4-5S.

The only reason I didn’t still upgrade is because I don’t see reason to upgrade as long as the cursed notch is there.
just realized i had said corners....my bad

oh ahah, well im planning on getting an iphone 11 pro max fwiw

you mean the iphone 14 ? im fairly certain it will have 12's design .be prepared for a higher price tho

ohh ahah i see.well i never really cared about notches or bezels

How tight are you holding your phone my dude? The edges of the phone are about as sharp as a cereal box. While I disagree, I totally sympathize with disliking the feel, and preferring the rounded edges. But “painfully sharp is such a massive over-exaggeration, unless you’re squeezing your iPhone like you’re trying to get it to merge with your hand.

I find the same problem. It’s probably not how tight our grip is but the way we hold the phone in use. The bottom corner rests in my palm and squared edges are definitely painful with the weight of the phone. I have no idea if they’ll come back - I hope so but likely not for a couple of years at least?

yeah indeed i tend to use words that arent exactly appropriate and that exacerbate my sentiments

I think you mean contoured corners. I’m neutral about it. I am not that obsessively into my phone for it to be a bother. But I got to admit the design introduced with the iPhone 12 is nice. I think Apple will likely rev the design with something similar to the bottom chassis of the 2021 MacBook Pro’s. You noticed the soft contoured edges of the new MBP’s should make holding the phone without a case feel much nicer.

I sure hope not. I want it to stay square!

I just got the iPhone 11 Pro Max (which has curved edges) in February 2021 and I'm still paying it off. I don't expect to upgrade for at least another two iPhones and I WAS HOPING IT'D BE TO A FLAT EDGE DEVICE!

And you're wanting curved edges back?!

No, no, no, no no! I am not skipping a couple of iPhone models just to go back to the same curved edges. Not after waiting so long for Apple to get back to the same sides as my iPhone 5.

No thank you!

Apple has tended to make these changes in cycles before.

iPhone, 3G, 3GS - rounded edges
iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C/5S - squared
iPhone 6, 6S, 7, 8, X, XS, 11 - rounded
iPhone 12, 13 - squared

It looks like cycles tend to be 4-5 years. The current squared off edges are just 2 years old. So we can expect them to stick around for a while.

Rumors about the iPhone 15 series (2023) show some big changes (titanium chassis, mesh speaker grills, hole punch front camera, flush rear camera lenses) but sticking with the squared edges, which makes sense. Then a refined version of that design in 2024, so maybe back to rounded edges (or something completely new?) for 2025.
