I just got a refurbished m1 iPad Pro and am also wondering if I should buy AppleCare. I am leaning toward not getting it since it is already one generation old and refurbished. By the time Applecare expires they will likely have a M3 or M4 based unit and I will want to upgrade again.

My experience:
- on AW worth it: series 2 screen damage and Series 4 red exclamation mark bug;
- iPad Pro 12.9” 2018: not fundamental, only minors scuff and no major screen damages
- iPhone: using them naked most of the time, I found AC+ useful also for peace of mind.

Nope, I’ve never once purchased it. It’s always seemed like a waste of money. I’m not saying that accidents and things out of your control don’t happen, but I haven’t experienced them enough to make AC+ ever seem worth it. I’ve never broken, lost, or had any of my devices stolen, and I’ve only had cracked screens on two. Both incidents were 7-10 years ago though, towards the end of the devices’ life cycles, and neither accident stopped any functionality of the devices.

Of course, I’m going to knock on a lot of wood now that I made this post.

Always AC+ for the more expensive stuff - such as Mac Studio, Studio Display at the moment. It's much easier if you need to send them in also of some reason.
I also bought for the HomePod Mini's. Because I heard it had been some issues, it's a new product for me, and AC+ was very cheap for them.
So, the cheapest and the most expensive stuff, for now.

Regarding iPhone's and iPad's, I usually don't drop them, or lose them. In case I do I think my Home insurance cover most of it.

Typically, I dont have Apple Care, but for the last two MacBook purchases, we got the yearly AC+ as I figured after 3 years, this will pay off for the battery service on our MBA M1 and M2, so the net cost will pretty much be nothing.

I also have AC+ on all my wife's devices - iPhone 12 Pro, AW 6 SS and AirPods 2nd gen. She tends to be clumsy and things just break for her - go figure. We plan to use AC+ to get battery service on both of her devices when healthy drops below 80%.

I think apple Care is more justifiable for iPhones and macs. iPads can’t say I’ve ever thought I would need it. That said maybe it’s worth it if you have kids running around

I think I’m AC+ing myself to death over here. I almost never purchased it in the past, but now, with the cost of devices, and the ease of doing it monthly, I have it on everything.

For which of your devices do you have AC+?
I have AppleCare on my iphone, ipad and Apple Watch. I also have it on my kids iPads.

Well the one iPad I will be taking with me places (my mini), I forgot to add AC+ before the time expired. I do have it on my phone, and this time I did the lost/stolen, but it’s kinda pricey. When I add it all up, I’m spending $30 or so a month on insurances I’m not sure I need.

My 12.9 doesn’t leave the house anymore, so considering dropping that, and the watch is pretty cheap to insure - probably keeping that at least a bit longer since I got a SS one this time.
I carry my mini with me as well, and had to put AppleCare+ for piece of mind. I’m glad I had AppleCare+, because my 14 Pro Max had to be replaced in January this year, and I would’ve had to pay full price without it.

I don't get AC+ for Macs. They just sit at home so there's less chance of damage.

I get AC+ for my iPhone and iPad since those I carry around. With storage and cellular upgrades, iPads can get super pricey.

I can self-insure but I'd absolutely hate replacing for example an iPad Pro 12.9 1TB 5G when it's just 6 months or less from an upgrade.

Plus you get Express Replacement Service with AC+. That was super handy during the lockdown.

This is entirely dependent on lifestyle & usage. If someone’s completely on the go out and about or maybe super young kids running around who might damage devices then having AC+ makes absolute sense to me.

I get it for most things but only the two years upfront - quite worth it for iPad Pro imo as the cost to repair is high and the cost for AppleCare+ is relatively cheap.

Get AppleCare on all the products I purchase. It replaced 2 iPhones and one iPad which more than covers its cost.

Apple care on all our devices except AirPods. Paid for itself nice with our kids air 3's last year when they developed the white spot issue on all 3 of them. All them got replaced with apples refurb units, fresh screens, new batteries and new casing, can't complain!

I've only ever bought it once and it was now for my overpriced CTO M2 MBA. Figured since I'm using and abusing it hard it might pay off. Battery health on 89% less than one year in :D

For ipads and iphones I haven't considered it. Especially iPads as they've never needed any attention, I guess due to the combination of the devices mostly staying at home in combination with almost no moving parts. The phone is provided by work so I just figure if it breaks it would be IT's issue.

I have AC+ on most of my products. The iPad Pro, in particular, I like because it also covers the keyboard & the pencil. And all three of those devices (the iPad, the Keyboard, and the Pencil) are essentially “Non-repairable” so any problems, they get swapped. Which can be VERY expensive without AC+.

Watch and phone, I got it for damage. Sure, they’ll fix the screen on a phone for a “Somewhat” reasonable price but if both screen & back get broken, you’re in for a steep bill. Watch, like iPad, isn’t “Repairable” so even a cracked screen is hundreds of $$ without AC+.

MacBooks… eh, I’m not sure if I would or not. My MacBook is supplied by work so I didn’t have to make that decision. Sure, it could get damaged but it’s not likely; and damage insurance from SquareTrade etc. can be cheaper. And the battery isn’t likely to give up the ghost in only 3 years.

Mac mini, I don’t have coverage.

We had 2 Macbook Airs with butterfly keyboard for my daughters going to college. They didn't baby their Macbooks and they still work fine today. Social media blew it out of proportion, making it sound like everyone was having issues.

I'm surprised how long Apple products can last, other than planned obsolescence by aggressive new OS releases.
Social media and the media in general blow a lot of things out of proportion, especially with Apple. This is not one of those things. The butterfly keyboards were terrible and should never come near a MacBook again. I myself absolutely HATE seeing the tech media blow trivial Apple stuff out of proportion, but the iPhone 4 antenna and the butterfly MacBook keyboards I think both got fairly treated. Heck, the iPhone 4 sailed on to be the best selling iPhone to date at the time anyway because it was such a freaking cool device other than that one weakness. But I think we can now all look back and say that free case or no, major issue in the day to day for most people or no, that antenna band should have never shipped like that.

The proof is in the product line with both. The engineer who greenlit the antenna design on the iPhone 4 got fired and the 4s fixed the issue a year later. That antenna design is still with us in more or less its perfected state and the look of it is pretty much synonymous with "iPhone" at this point. The butterfly keyboards are long gone.

I get it for my kids' iPhones and haven't regretted it once. I get it for my own iPhones because I still like to swap those out every year and just recently switched to Apple's upgrade plan which requires it. Other than that, none of our iPads, Apple Watches, or Macs have it.

For my own personal use, I have to say I don't mind having it on my iPhone. I think many of us use that as our general purpose computer whether we realize it or not, and the other day I woke up to mine having a black screen. The issue just ended up being that it glitched out somehow overnight and I was just not doing the hard reset sequence correctly, but for that few minutes I didn't know what was going on, I was suddenly thinking of all the things I specifically needed my iPhone for that my iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch can't do, even though two of those three things also have cellular.

Long story short: I do it for my mobile devices only and usually just my iPhone. All the other stuff I can do without until I figure out what I want to do to replace it, but my iPhone is my lifeline. I like knowing if I break it I can just go grab a new one, restore, and be back up and running by day's end.

I just purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 6th generation, so you better believe that I purchased AppleCare+. It was almost the same price as my 14 Pro Max, so no AppleCare+ wasn’t up for discussion.

I have AC+ on my iPhone and MBP. With the recently changed policy of unlimited coverage per year, it’s a no brained. Devices are priced astronomically these days and freak accidents do happen. So please protect your devices.
