When I first got the iPhone X, I was a bit 'worried' that it would take a lot effort and time to get used to the gesture based navigation. But in reality, I got used to it the moment I started using it. In fact, when I picked up my older phone like a day after - for the sake of restoring it so I could sell it - it felt very unnatural for some reason. So the gestures on the iPhone X and onwards actually feel very natural. It's smoother overall.

What I do find to be annoying a bit, is that sometimes when I press the side button to invoke Siri or make a screenshot, I accidentally press the volume button as well. This was a common issue with every iPhone since the iPhone 6, tho. So it doesn't particularly apply to the iPhone X and later.

For those of you that have been using a X model for a while, do you miss the Home Button?

I’m on an 8 and considering switching to an 11 Pro but I don’t know how I’ll feel with Face ID and the new gestures. They seem to be unintuitive, but maybe that’s because I haven’t used them much.

Not one bit! Love FaceID

Love the new gestures. I was using them on my iPad before I upgraded from a 6s Plus to a XR earlier this year. I hardly ever use the home button on my iPad Mini, since the gestures are the same (despite still including a home button).

This is my situation, as well. I used the swipe gestures on my iPad Air 2 before buying the XR, so I was familiar with the new way of interacting with the device.

I feel like gestures are the way the phone should be used, they are easier, faster, it's an all-around smoother experience and you don't depend so much on hardware, as there's no home button that can fail. I much prefer the experience without the home button, it's a big step forward and I think Apple did a great job with the gestures because they're intuitive, smooth, well implemented and they really do allow you to navigate the phone much faster. Not to mention that swiping on the screen is more satisfying than pressing a button.

In fact, I pretty much eliminated the use of the home button. On both of my iPads I use the magnetic cover with the sleep/wake function, so I hardly ever touch the home button anymore and I don't miss it at all.

Can’t say as I do to be honest. Got used to the new system very quickly after I bought my X and never looked back.

There are moments when the Home Button makes me look stupid though. When I have to do something to my wife’s, or family/friends older iPhones and I’m busy swiping along the bottom of the screen to try and quickly switch apps. That really makes it look like you know what you’re doing :p

Honestly, I'm way happier without the home button. The gestures, to me at least are way better and no way could I go back. I use my wifes's 8+ and can't stand it.

Just went from the Max to the 8 Plus. I’m much happier with the home button. It’s easier to reach versus swinging up from the bottom of the Max. Very satisfying clicking sensation. And I can once again access Control Center easily.

Absolutely not, I didn't fully commit to using Apple iPhones until they removed it!

I bought the iPad Pro with Face ID but I still have my 9.7" IPP. It feels so clunky and the bezel with the home button looks huge to me now.

No
And I don’t miss seeing posts about something that happened 3 phones ago.

In case you ask I don’t miss the headphone jack either

Had a X, returned it, mostly because I thought the UI sucked compared to TouchID, and went back to my 7.

7 died after about 27 months, needed a new phone, bought an XS Max. All of a sudden, the UI no longer bothered me. YMMV, but the single change that made all the difference for me was turning on Raise to Wake. That made unlocking the phone much more natural, made it feel easier/faster (even though we're talking about a small difference - but it was an annoying difference).

So, no, after a false start, I do not find the FaceID UI a problem at all - I've come to prefer it strongly. I would not go back to TouchID, as much as I loved it then.

now i have been using gesture control since the XS Max release, i now realise how pointless a physical home button actually is...

I've had the X since launch, so 2 years. I don't miss the home button, but I do not think swiping up from the bottom is a natural way to simulate a home button action. For me, it is a little awkward. Once they incorporate something better (like a button under the screen) the bottom swipe will go away. That said, given the option to have the home button I would not take it, as I love having more screen on the footprint of the phone (less bezel).

Please apple - remove touch id in 2020
Please apple - remove notch in 2020

face id is enough

Home Button gets boring after a while, then the same for gestures. Better switch back and forth.

I don’t but my mother in law that’s tech challenged will miss it whenever the 8 phases out since that’ll probably be her next and last phone for a while.

She can’t figure out gestures, she can barely use her 6. We tried teaching her gestures on my XS Max and my wife’s X and no luck. I’ve never met anyone so technology inept, LOL.

I really like FaceID but Touch-ID by Apple is not bad either. I saw samsung bring finger scanner in screen, tried it but didn’t like it. I heard rumors that apple can bring Touch ID back i hope they don’t.
