I'll just watch it on the way home on the train... Not too interested in the iPhones to be honest, more the Apple Watches, even though I won't be getting one this year.

I always watch it after work. I will hear what happened of course but will still come home and watch. The Pre-order won't likely be until September 13. Last year I got the XS on the iPhone Upgrade Program. Since I am likely to get the 5G iPhone whenever that comes out I will probably upgrade this year with trade in. I may do the less expensive XR replacement though.

Really? Taking time off to watch an event? Curious how old you are.
How is that relevant? If I were to take time off, it would be paid leave. Others aren't buried in debt and can afford to take a day without pay.

Lucky for me, I don't have to. I'll have the keynote going on my second monitor while I do database and phone system stuff.

I was curious the relevance of age as well. I didn’t realize that interest in tech had such parameters. I’m 43 and have enough time banked to where I’m forced to take paid time off every several weeks or I lose it. If I want to PTO several hours to watch a keynote, while being paid, why should anyone else care?

I just pull up a live blog occasionally to check in to see what has been announced. Like someone else said, it’s essentially a 2 hour long commercial and only a fraction of it covers things I care about.

There is a good chance that I’ll take a PTO day on launch day, but not for the event.

I just block my calendar off and watch it.

Also, if I wanted to take the day off I would. That's what paid time off is for and I get a lot of it.

So excited now , week away ,
i think i will work early morning and get home watch 2 hr then come back work till 8hr full day :)

That’s just ridiculous.! Loosing $200 for a phone you don’t need. Crazy.!

OTOH i just don’t care and will do my dialy stuff.

It says a lot (maybe about only myself) that of all the keynotes I’ve heard or watched, the moment that stands out the most is when the audience loudly gasped at the $1000 price tag of the new Mac Pro stand. It was funny for all the wrong reasons and an epic fail.

Anyways I enjoyed the Jobs keynotes and the era when the smartphone was truly evolving. Now because of leaks and the mature nature of the product it’s fairly boring. Hopefully we’ll be surprised.

75% disappointed with leak result vs 25% suprised special tech

I’m curious on who watches the entire keynote.

I always wait till I get home and skip to iPhone/AW parts. The rest of it is boring. Especially the app demos of games I have no intention in playing.
I usually try to watch/listen the keynote at work and the boring parts are when I get work done and once I hear something that piques my interest I start paying attention to the keynote.

Several people commented how crazy it is to lose money by staying home from work to watch the event... do you guys never take vacation days for something you enjoy? Or take days off on the weekends? You could pick up a second job for when you have days off from your first job! Stay home on the weekends and lose out on all that money just so you can do whatever you want for a couple days a week? How crazy is that! Or only work 8 hours a day when there’s another 16 hours you could be earning money?

It’s okay to take time off, guys. There’s not something magical about exactly
40 hours every week. Plenty of people work more than that and plenty of people work less than that. If one week a year you only work 32 hours instead of 40, the world will still keep spinning.

A bit of a straw man argument there. Absolutely no one is saying that you should never take time off work. Everybody's jobs, and priorities, are different.

I'm a teacher. Next week is only the second week of school. I'm still getting to know and form a rapport with my students, set the tone for the semester, establish routines, etc. Am I going to (falsely) use one of my sick days (we don't have vacation days during the school year) to watch what's effectively a long Apple advertisement, especially when all of the highlights and information will be available online afterward?

Life is short. Work isn't everything. But I personally feel that shirking my responsibilities for something so trivial is selfish. That's just my 2 cents.
