I never understood this either. I understand they want to create simplicity, but IMO this is made for the stupidest slowest person in the world.
iOS is basic disguised as simple. And marketed as advance.

wow, thats the most accurate description I have read so far of IOS.iOS is basic disguised as simple. And marketed as advance.

Im surprised apple did not make split apps on the Plus model or picture in picture. Screen size is just about fine for it.I will say that iOS 11 on the iPad is looking like it's getting more advanced though, finally. My iPad Air is currently collecting dust...

I have the Air 2 so i can enjoy the improvements, I dont think the air 1 gets that stuff with 1gb ram.

Besides CC IOS on iPhone was basically ignored. I expect bigger changes in IOS 12.Yes that's what's amusing to me, often in it's "simplicity" iOS makes things more convoluted and complicated.

I'm very disappointed by this as well, they are definitely behind on this one.
Yeah, I'd have to update. I will not purchase an iPad until iOS gets gesture-typing. What's worse than typing on an iPhone? Typing on an iPad.
and again not on the iPhone...I would like a row dedicated to numbers but apple feels the 12.9 iPad only gets it.. odd.I do like how they copied, I mean implemented the swipe for punctuation off the number row, been enjoying that on my windows tablets for years. It's really quite fluid and speeds up typing without having to add extra space to the keyboard. I've been sorely missing a numbers/punctuation line on my keyboards in iOS and android.

iPad was also ignored in IOS 10 and then updated a lot now with IOS 11.

Yup the Plus tends to be underutilized. Most developers don't even bother to make a landscape mode.Yes that's true. As I mentioned before I'm impressed with the changes to the ipad on iOS11, but bummed that very few of them made it to the iPhone. That huge screen on the plus is just begging for some of these things like split screen. I loved some of the jailbreak apps that allowed splitscreen on my 7+, but none of them really worked that well, especially in portrait mode.
Truth is the 6 and especially the 6 Plus were under powered from the get go.I've noticed too on my iPhone 6. I sit there waiting for something to launch.
With all this talk of multi tasking,my 7 Plus just stops downloading data when I activate the home screen. Try downloading Real Racing 3. Go to home screen and after an hour , download has been terminated. On my iPad YouTube app just refuses to stay in memory when I know FOR A FACT that when my Air 2 was new it had no issues keeping all these apps in memory. Off late I have also noticed that when you have around 11 tabs open, the Air 2 reloads the first 2 quite often. The planned Obsolescence is real. My 2015 Tab S2 has no issued downloading app data or reloading although some stutters here and thereI've noticed this too, is this a bug in 10.3.2? Several times per day if I cold start an app it literally takes 5-10 seconds to open up, it will just sit there at the splash screen. I'm already used to iOS just force closing apps at random and it gets stuttery/laggy at times, but this is a new one and really annoying.
edit: Just noticed you are referencing your ip6, this happens on my 7plus.

The file manager is a logical not physical file manager like windows. It's an extension of iCloud. So no android has nothing to do with this, even with its huge market share and no revenue for the manufacturers.
Based on revenue people don't think iOS is languishing.
Its all over for the iPhone 6. I recommend not updating to iOS 11 unless you are looking for an expensive paper weightI've noticed too on my iPhone 6. I sit there waiting for something to launch.
so file mangers, being around the better part of 70 years on various computer platforms are a ripoff on android? I don't think so.Apple's Files application looks kind of similar to Finder on macOS. It lists your 'locations' in the leftmost pane, as well as any items you may have marked as favorites, and colorful tags. To the right, there's the bigger panel where you get to see and interact with your actual files and folders, complete with grid and list views, as well as different sorting methods. If you look at the locations list, you'll see it includes third-party services and iCloud Drive, but also an "On My iPad" space, where we presume you'll be able to find stuff like downloaded files or maybe even email attachments. It'll be interesting to see how deep the rabbit hole goes, once we get the chance to try Files for ourselves, later this year.
@BOLD. Yes its an Android/Windows ripoff. And no need for you to worry. This feature will only get better over time as Apple usually takes its time updating stuff like this. The file manager should be at feature parity with Android by iOS 12 or so
iOS is not languishing.Intel had a record breaking quarter and you would still be languishing on quad cores paying 500 bucks for the same rehashed CPU every year. Just as AMD with its Threadripper and Ryzen compelled Intel to get a move on, the same is the case with iPhone 8. Now AMD are nowhere close to Intel as far as financials go so yes Intel was languishing and people were getting looted.
I'm about to buy my first ever android phone. After years and years of being curious, it's finally time for me to give it a shot. Its all over for the iPhone 6. I recommend not updating to iOS 11 unless you are looking for an expensive paper weight
File Managers were supposedly outdated werent they and Android was subpar for having them? Aren't app silos better? At least thats what you and some others were implying. So now with Apple indirectly admitting Android was right all along, yes its a ripoffso file mangers, being around the better part of 70 years on various computer platforms are a ripoff on android? Its no secret that apple releases features after. This is how its been for a while now.File Managers were supposedly outdated werent they and Android was subpar for having them? iOS has Android to thank for the multiple features of iOS 11. I wonder when iOS will inevitably support split screen for the 7 Plus which Android has had for quite some time now like with file manager, widgets, third party keyboards etc
I have no issues with them copying as everyone does it but some people here were criticising the very features Apple copied and are now trying to behave as if its not a copyIts no secret that apple releases features after. This is how its been for a while now.
Its not really hurting them as they dont cater to the tech crowd but to regular Joes.
File managers are outdated, iOS has survived 10 years without one and now there is a logical file manager. Windows needed one although the my documents folder was a way to try and shield the complexity of a physical file system from the user. Yep even windows tried it.File Managers were supposedly outdated werent they and Android was subpar for having them? Aren't app silos better? At least thats what you and some others were implying. Actually iOS has xerox parc to thank and android has iOS to thank. Windows thanks ibm for the concepts and android thanks windows. And I guess Samsung thanks Apple for the dual camera.iOS has Android to thank for the multiple features of iOS 11. I wonder when iOS will inevitably support split screen for the 7 Plus which Android has had for quite some time now like with file manager, widgets, third party keyboards etc
Oh that will always happen. I was criticized by some of my friends when I got the first Plus iPhone.I have no issues with them copying as everyone does it but some people here were criticising the very features Apple copied and are now trying to behave as if its not a copy

Pros and cons of both right there.iOS is definitely languishing, but remember Apple's job is to make more money and nothing else. It doesn't matter if they sell a hunk of dog crap on a stick, as long as they make billions doing it. I can't say that I blame them for releasing just the bare minimum of features on the iPhone in order to sell. On the other hand I'm very impressed with what Android puts in each of its releases. Google is more in the business of attracting your eyeballs and Android is the main mobile vehicle for this, so it makes sense that they put more effort into their OS releases. Ironically by the time you do FINALLY get that Android release Apple has most likely caught up due to their much faster and non fragmented update system.
Pros and cons of both right there.
Faster features at the cost of fragmentation or consistent updates with slow roll out of features.
