They are talking about using the iOS default app with gmail. It doesn't push properly so a lot of people have to download a secondary app for their gmail. I think that basically means that it doesn't "Just work".

Makes sense that some do but I know a lot of people that use gmail with the IOS app. Once again all you power users seem to fail to grasp how the masses use their phone.

I grasp it just fine. I see no problems with choosing iPhone. My words are my own opinion on the matter.

The only facts I use are those rooted in hardware. Right now Intel does not have a modem as good as Qualcomm. They cripple Qualcomm. These are facts because if they didn't do this, the Qualcomm would be "gigabit LTE" capable while the Intel would not be.

As for the gmail app, some people probably don't care about email. I really don't either. So I get it that most wouldn't notice the push issues. However, we can't say Apple "Just works" when it doesn't always.

I've noticed that since I've switched from an iPhone 7 with a Qualcomm modem to a Pixel 2 I've had improved signal in places where I previously had poor signal. This is also on Verizon, which is supposedly the best network in the US. That said, I haven't tried the iPhone 8/8+/X using the same Qualcomm X16 modem as the Pixel 2 so that could have improved signal strength as well.

They can't use the Qualcomm fully. On the iPhone 7 forward they've had to make it match Intel. So even if you get the Qualcomm, it won't work to its full capacity like it would in an Android device.

So I’ve had my X since launch and as per usual with all iPhone I have owned recently, problems are there almost daily.
For me, these are not the iPhones of old where everyone praised such fantastic software. I’m using a buggy, lagging mess.

Don’t get me wrong, 80% of the time it works and it’s fine, but daily I am having the same problems. Apps not loading, particularly Facebook, webpages just not loading - at first I blamed my lack of internet as I’ve just moved into a new house with no internet but I have full 4G coverage, so it’s not that.
Happens at work even when connected to Wi-Fi.

And it makes no sense. I can be on Facebook and go out of it and look at something else, go back in and I’ve got lag. Just a grey screen not loading content I was just looking at. I’ve also had Facebook and other apps such as DPD (delivery company) just break. The DPD app won’t even load up. Just sticks on ‘signing in’. The app has been updated once too which I thought would fix it, but nope. Deleting and starting again didn’t fix it either.

Instagram is the worst. If I’m flicking through a profile when I get to the bottom before it loads further picturerex sometimes I’m waiting up to 10 seconds before it will load more images. Does like 20 at a time then almost freezes as it loads them. I’ve never experienced this on my recent Android devices. Even my B.B. KEYone which was not the most powerful.

I also had a massive slow down earlier where everything just virtually stopped. Granted, I was mobile hot spotting to my MacBook and I came out of an app and flicked between pages to go to a different app and it just spluttered and stuttered through two pages of apps at snails pace. Very janky as it went.
The fact I was tethering shouldn’t cause that much slow down.

It isn’t what I expect from iOS at all but even when I had my 7 Plus I had a whole host of issues with it. That was more cellular and Wi-Fi problems than anything but it happened on two different devices.
Starting to get a bit frustrated with it all. I even said to my partner (who has a 7 Plus) about lag as my instagram was once again not loading and asked if his does the same thing ever and he thought about it for a minute and said, “yeah it does actually”.
For the price, this isn’t good enough. “Buttery smooth” is what I would call my XZ Premium experience. Not this iPhone X currently.

That sucks. Certainly not the experience you should be having. My X isn’t perfect by any means (none of my iPhones are ever perfect) but I’m not seeing anything remotely similar. Did you restore from a backup? Considering you had some similar problems with your 7, maybe something corrupt in your backup file?

It's certainly not an ideal experience but if you can deal with it, might be worth setting it up fresh brand new. If you are still seeing terrible performance, could absolutely be a lemon unit. My X is buttery smooth what feels like 99% if the time and is generally super quick.

Hey, no I never restore from backups for this very reason.
Always set new phones up fresh, particularly iPhones.
It’s not terrible don’t get me wrong and I wouldn’t say it was a bad unit or anything, I just find some apps in particular are much slower than their Android counterparts from my recent experiences. The X has only had one UI slowdown and that was last night. Like I say I was tethering and had one percent battery (lol) so I can forgive it for that.

It’s more app performance. The trade off for the slower loading apps however is that apps are generally better than the Android ones in features. They’re updated sooner and always seem to have newest features first. Shouldn’t mean they can behave like they do sometimes but there we go.

I think I’ll do a soft rest actually. Delete the troublesome apps and start again.
Outside of that, I like the X a lot. It’s a great phone and I’ve been pretty pleased with it. My AirPods and MacBook connect instantly to it and I’ve always like  Music over Google Play personally.

Either start fresh or it’s defected unit as mine is flawless speed wise. Certainly no lag here.

Like I said I started fresh.
The fact that you even have to do that is a joke though.
Glad you have no lag, was expecting lots of people to chime in that theirs was flawless so good to see i've not been disappointed. :D

I have never started fresh I always use backup so maybe there's an issue starting fresh. Would think though there would be no issues from backup than starting fresh.

There will always be issues for some people on new devices. Thats normal. I would return it for a new one and see if it's any different.

yep....Apple limited the Qualcomm modems

The second thing to remember is that Apple has artificially limited Qualcomm’s modem to reduce any performance differences between the Intel and Qualcomm phones. Although we don’t know the exact details, it appears that Apple disabled certain LTE-Advanced technologies that Qualcomm’s modem supports but Intel’s does not. Given the complexity of modem design, that could have slowed regular LTE performance on Qualcomm’s chip as well.

Erm.

The Mail app doesn't support push for Gmail properly, thus everyone i know uses the Gmail app on IOS for Gmail accounts.

Also IOS doesn't allow you to change default apps (quite how IOS users put up with this is beyond me tbh) so using anything other than stock apps where provided in IOS is a major PITA.
Thats not really Apple's fault, Google decided to stop that.
I put up with the default Apps because I actually like most of the defaults. Though I would not be against a choice to change of course.
The only ones I prefer are google maps/Waze and Outlook for mail.

Everything else is stock and works fine.

Outlook for mail is fantastic. I applaud Microsoft for such a solid offering on Android/iOS.

One of the most glaring limitations of iOS is sharing files. Recorded a voice memo to send to a colleague through WhatsApp and was greeted by this fine error message. Apple’s stock voice memos can’t be shared through WhatsApp. I had to get it done via computer

Really love the file managers and custom file formats on Android. Makes life so much easier
