Compared the the M1 Air, it now has three ports because you aren't using one USB-C for power.
I'm planning on buying an M2 MacBook Air. I probably won't use the MagSafe charging at all. At my desk in my home office, I use a dock that supplies power and extra ports. When I'm working on site away from my home office, I don't use a charger at all. The M1 MacBook Air easily lasts a full workday. I find the return of MagSafe to be a bit silly.

I have a 14” MBP and I don’t use MagSafe either - I dock mine to my LG UltraFine display when at my desk and on the go it has enough battery life that I don’t find myself needing to carry a charging adapter.

Sure. I have big dogs running around the house and no home office with a permenant desk or display so MagSafe is great for me.

I find their compare tool a bit... well, dishonest by means of omission.

This is the comparison of the MBA M1 and M2.

Leads one to believe there's no media engine in the M1, whereas in reality they've beefed it up and given it ProRes. And IIRC the M1 has 70GB/s memory bandwidth, not... well, none.

Side note, what on earth is the MBP 13" M2 all about? Feels like that Touch Bar line should have been finished off.
One reason for the 13” MBP is to give you an M1/2 with a fan so you don’t run into thermal throttling. I never push my Air enough to get there but for those that do and if it matters to them, the baby MBP is a cheap way to avoid that.

Other people have different use scenarios. Some don’t use docks. Some work away from their desks. Others do more intensive work that needs charging sooner or just feel more comfortable having a charger around. Some of those people have dogs and kids running around jumping over cables or not. For all of those people, MagSafe is not silly.
