At work I see more iPhones. Most of my friends have Androids however. I'm the only BlackBerry user left.

Out of my friends, not really sure, seems more have Android now with girls primarily being the iPhone owners. Wife's work was BB, then iPhone, now they have the option of Android or iOS and when wife got her S5 (never thought she'd leave iPhone lol) she said on their stats Android devices now account for majority of employee phones. But for what it's worth was at a brewery other day (Lagunitas) and bar is pretty open, was easy to see that there were a lot of Android devices out, very few iPhones, even our bartender had a Note I noticed when he texted. On the brewery tour, was about 50/50 split guys/girls b/c of couples think there was only two guys without girls, this thread had me thinking and when seeing people taking pics almost all were Android devices . I'd say most of Androids are Samsung.

Mostly see iPhones, seconded by Samsung devices (both the S series and Note series), followed by the occasional HTC device, the occasional Nexus 5 (surprisingly), and then rarely do I ever see a Moto X.

This is NYC, btw.

I see a lot of asians with Samsung devices.

I suspect after the release of the S6/Edge, we'll see even more with Samsung devices.

Lately I've been seeing more iPhones. A few months ago it was split between the samsung and iPhone. I think its tipped over to Apple as more people get the 6 and 6 plus.

I see mostly Android devices in my Hospital. Nearly all the staff uses them, however physicians mostly have iPhones.

I have been going to different restaurants here in Yorba Linda, Richard Nixon’s birthplace, and iPhones practically dominates in SoCal. Apple is winning the battle in the U.S. and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Anywhere I go it is either iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. I noticed most Asian ladies carry 6+.

April 18th is when arrives in the Philippines. Since they love Samsung as much as Apple, I already expect the S6 edge to be one of the most popular phones next to iPhone 6 series, regular S and Note series. Prior to when iPhone 6/6+ officially was released in the Philippines around Nov 2014, people already owned it. Probably imported from a different country. When it finally did arrive our shores, within a week I saw so many people with them. The 6 Plus is as equally popular and common as the smaller 6 mainly because they embraced phablets much sooner than Americans since embracing the original Note. The S edge will be the hottest device to get by next month.

I actually never understood comments like "Android is for poor or UGLY people" or "people who bash iPhone can't afford it" or whatever.

I see iPhones EVERYWHERE I go. This isn't the same as owning a Ferrari. I have an Uncle (age 62) who was in financial dire straits like a decade ago. He used to sleep in his van with his family 12 years ago. Lived in a danky apartment for years. Now he owns a Galaxy S5 that he doesn't know how to use and bought an iPhone 6 for both his teenage daughters when it first came out. I know another lady who is the baby mama of my friend. Lives on welfare with footstamps and all. Owns iPhones while my friend (aged 42) who gets disability $1.5k monthly checks lives on a cheap Tracfone and still loves ColecoVision because he is old school like that.

Maybe in 2007-2008, it was a luxury to own an iPhone. The original 8 GB cost $600 and then $400 found only in one major US carrier. It wasn't until iPhone 4 when it went to Verizon is when iPhone became more popular. Then 4s went to THREE carriers and alot more foreign countries. Then 5 went to all FOUR major carriers. The 5s seems more popular than the 5. And the 6/6+ became insanely popular once they were released. The iPhone didn't hit mainstream until circa 2010-2011 but 2007-2008 prior to the $200 iPhone 3G was when it felt cool and luxury...

I agree. People who say stuff like that are really pathetic.

because there is not much else to argue. that goes to the same cathegory as "your mom is!" but... next time you can ask "btw, how long is your contract?" for example...

but back to the topic.. i havent seen many new iphones since the launch day, but older ones... odd...

I'm from the East cost and moved here in the Seattle area in January. Back in the East coast, it's all iphones. It was rare to see an Android phone.
Here in the West cost it seems different. Most people use Android. Also I noticed there is a large Asian population here and all the Asian kids at my school seem to use Samsung phones.

My parents are merchant and have 2 stores
I don't look bad either :D and i don't own iPhone too (but actually i owned it on the past)
Usually people expecting me having an iPhone, my own phone look very similar to iPhone (Z3C) but its not
They seems to be surprised and asked what kind of cheap smartphone it is?
My phone is actually better than iPhone from many aspects (battery life, waterproof, design)
I don't count price as a criteria but people own iPhone 6 and think its the best phone to buy, they are wrong
People who buy it into brand purpose and more stupid than i ever was when i bought my first iPhone couple years ago
Honestly i wanted an iPhone so badly in the past, however i had cash to buy one without any subscription, but still thinking, it could be a waste of money to buy smartphone above 600/700$ at this time.
I eventually bought it because i love how Apple philosophy (not their business model but rather their marketing strategy) about how they would attract users, how they can transmit their message through a design, any aspect was punctiliously improved...
At this time you could still feeling Apple being under Jobs influence even though he was deceased before i have bought my first iPhone
Why i ran away from iPhone?
Alternatives are as good as it and sometimes cheaper, yes these android/wp alternatives have improved alot and eventually surpass latest iPhones
Android being really mature OS, ergonomic and flexibility are two things i didnt find on iOS, too restricted
Android makes iOS like a simple feature phone because iPhone users just want simplicity over features
I quite disagree, it was cool to not thinking about tweaking your phone and chasing any bugs that need some understanding but you will feel being stuck over time, iOS getting older unlike being mature which Android does
Android have two face, one as simple as iOS and the other side, a world of flexibility and features that make you feeling using a real smartphone instead of simple mobile phone
e.g Llama + Greenify + some apps who help about ergonomic (adding double tap to lock/wake screen, swipe, NFC for connecting BT devices without typing codes...
There is something i remember from the time i been using the ancestor of smartphone, PDA , smartphone, it not only a mobile phone with some computer features
Its a mobile computer into your pocket with mobile features.
Perhaps i am an ugly duckling but leaving iOS (not leaving fully Apple, i really like their Macbook products), save me some money (Z3C cost to me about 450 euros and now its under 380/350 eur) and i got better phone overall

Remember, Apple is one brand. Android is a dozen. Considering that, the iPhone is pretty dang popular. But competition is essential. It drives all companies to be better.

North East UK, huge majority of android users, mainly Samsung and Sony, but Windows phones seem to be increasing too.
Do see iPhones, but not in great numbers.
