I never had a .Mac, was that in the year 2002+? or something? I've just recovered my @me.com from 10 years ago from Apple - I'm not bothered about it, but because it's such an old email, which brings back some good memories, thought I'd go through security to get it back. :)

I still have and use my @mac.com email address, which is ancient. Of course in iCloud, I have a ....me.com, and .....icloud.com address showing as well. When making a purchase at an Apple retail store several years ago, I had an older sales associate who made the comment, "...old school, huh?" and laughed about the fact he still had his...mac.com address but almost never saw anyone else who did. I think you're right about "good memories".

I only use my @mac.com address.

Whenever I call Apple support, which over the past few years has been a lot more times than I would like, the reps would often make comments about my @mac.com address, basically pointing out that I have been using Apple products for a while.

My @me address is still my main e-mail address after all these years. My Apple ID is still @me as well.

Has anyone ever seen the "enter a valid email address" when trying to use the @mac.com?

This has only happened like twice for me, I can't remember what I was doing and what website I was on, but it wouldn't accept my @mac.com, and I had to use @me.com, which worked.

I have no idea why one worked, but the other didn't.

I had an older sales associate who made the comment, "...old school, huh?" and laughed about the fact he still had his...mac.com address but almost never saw anyone else who did.

This is basically my experience when calling Apple support.

.mac address? Of course. iTools, .mac, iDisk, iWeb, Mobile Me . . . Good times!

Still use my .mac address as my iCloud ID and still use one of the alias email addresses .mac allowed us to create.

I guess it would for me too, but I've never had occasion to call Apple Support :)
I've been using Macs and iPhones since they came out, but never had a need to contact Apple Support

I can remember when I called AOL to switch my internet connection to Earthlink waaaaaay back in the day, they were shocked because I was like one of the founding members of AOL
LOL

I had earthlink also, until 2002 I think.

It would take forever when downloading something in LimeWire. I would have multiple things downloading, and the time remaining would be in days.

I remember the first time getting Broadband, and watching those download bars fill up so quick. 1.5 Mbps was amazing.

Going from dial-up to broadband was magical. Haven't felt that magic again until recently when I switched to Gigabit internet.

I'm so old school I remember the days of Bulletin Boards, Prodigy and CompuServe
This all sounds familiar, but I can't remember what any of it is.

using 1200 baud dial-up modems
This is much older than me. I remember as a teenager, the 14400 baud (I think) on my family's first computer, also my first Mac, but 1200 sounds really old.

@me is my primary email. I never signed up for a .mac account.
Many Mac users didn't want to pay a fee for dot Mac membership, which was probably high considering many other services were free.

Exactly. – I also first really got into the Apple world when it was all dying out anyway, but for most of what .mac offered, I knew free alternatives at that point. Of course those were all separate individual services rather than a single integrated one, so that still was a plus for Apple's solution. Also at that point my primary income was the pocket money me parents gave me, so not exactly the target age group for monthly services, hehe.

I got it when Apple included the first year with a new Mac, or maybe a reduced rate, but either way, it was not full price.

But, I liked it enough to keep renewing my membership.

I don't believe you can. However, you might possibly be able to find someone who no longer wants their registered @Mac address and get it switched to you??

Can you still register and get a @Mac address?

Nope, that went away a long time back with the conversion to @me.com
There was talk at the time that the @mac.com addresses would no longer be supported and cease functioning with the conversion
However, thankfully, that has not been the case as mine is my primary email still today

I recall that as well, that they were going to d/c the @Mac. I never cared for the @me address, seemed a little self-centered or something.
