Exactly. – I also first really got into the Apple world when it was all dying out anyway, but for most of what .mac offered, I knew free alternatives at that point. Of course those were all separate individual services rather than a single integrated one, so that still was a plus for Apple's solution. Also at that point my primary income was the pocket money me parents gave me, so not exactly the target age group for monthly services, hehe.
I thought it was the other way around. .mac was first (and free) and then Mobile Me came out and that was a pay service. But I may be wrong and that wouldn’t surprise me.

Still use my .Mac for Apple ID, when it was first offered you had to use your full name. Didn't think anything about it until last few years. There isn't anyway to change a primary .Mac address only cancel. My spam mail can get scary sometimes.

I've had it since it was first introduced and you had to pay a yearly fee for it. Sure has made things easier in the Apple ecosystem, and I'm glad I no longer have to cough up $99/year.

I just tested my me.com address, and it worked, I often use the "mac.com" when I give it out verbally, because "iCloud.com" may sound corny to some people......So yes, I still have the me, mac, and iCloud......and I chuckle whenever I get an email from someone using "aol.com" (remember the days of all those AOL disks destroying our ecosystem, heard some are collectors, some are "coasters"....).....

You know, I need to look into my me.com email address.
Ah those Mobile.me days. I remember when items would not sync properly.

But, I digress...

I wish I had signed up for a .Mac email back then. I switched to Macs in 2006 and I just never grabbed one. To make things worse, a friend of mine bought a Mac right after me and she signed up. She still uses her. I did use my .me address but dropped it as soon as iCloud came around. Yeah, it's corny. But I feel better saying that than gmail. Or hotmail.

yup, still use it as my main Apple ID. In fact I like the clean web interface and I forward all my mail on it. My only problem is that it's way too limited especially because I cannot setup different email address in the from-line like other webmail providers allow you to.

BTW, it's been quite a while since Apple last updated their web service. I mean
iTools: Jan 2001 - July 2002 => 18mo
.Mac: July 2002 - June 2008=> 6years
MobileMe: June 2008 - June 2011 => 3 years
iCloud => Been on for 7 years

Time to upgrade dont you think ?

I still use a secondary @me.com email for everything. However, I just recovered a very old .Mac email that I had forgotten all about. Once I got back in, I had to upgrade to iCloud and the .Mac email, which is supposed to work as an alias (as my me.com does) simply refuses to receive email. It's kind of a bummer since it's a first.last email. Apple says it should work fine, but no.

Edit. And the worst part is that same first.last@mac.com is the recovery email address for a Gmail account that I had way back in the beta days. They can't send me a password reset email because of it. I really don't want daniel5607968@gmail.com.

I never had a .Mac, was that in the year 2002+? or something? I've just recovered my @me.com from 10 years ago from Apple - I'm not bothered about it, but because it's such an old email, which brings back some good memories, thought I'd go through security to get it back. :)
I use mac, me, and icloud all the time. Just tried me.com prior to this entry.
