Isn’t a tapered design also uneven, I don’t hear of people complaining that a MBA for example’s design is flawed and causing it to have a cracked or broken screen or body.
A bump would focus pressure in one spot. A taper distributes pressure evenly along an entire edge or side.

Yet iPhone 6 and onwards have had a camera bump that has been metastasizing for years and it has not caused any issues other than rocking while resting on a flat surface. Remember some people don’t put cases on their phone and one could argue if it was or was not designed to have a case put on.

A camera bump on the exterior shell of a Mac laptop would make no difference to the structural integrity of the device as on all these devices Apple has feet in the shape of a bump either domed or circular and flat.

I think it's fascinating the different thoughts/opinions about the notch on the 14 inch MBP. When I read your reply I realized I had genuinely forgotten about the notch on my base model 14 inch, it just blends in now. Hope your Studio Max treats you well!
One reason that explains this is because one’s eyes is focused on the content displayed Center of the screen, people generally don’t look around the edges unless to complete some action and then return focus back to the Center of the screen.

The notch is a design issue not much of a function issue.

Can you add a poll to this? Much easier to see what the consensus is that way.

IMO, the notch is here to stay, at least for this generation of MBP, and likely even the upcoming MBA.

Except the results of a MacRumors poll about the future have zero correlation with reality.

Just look and see how well this poll is correlating with reality:

May or may not be meaningful but much easier than reading through the entire thread to figure out what folks are thinking.

There's a large difference in the rigidity of iPhone housing and that of a MacBook Pro lid, mainly due to the large difference in size and proportions.

The feet bumps are on the bottom case, not the lid. No screen to crack there. You're not thinking about this as an engineer would.

Have you tested it out in practise or is this just theory. Metal is not perfect in any way and a small domed bump would have little bearing on its surface integrity. Seriously are you placing your laptop on the floor and standing on it, it’s going in a backpack. Even the similar sized iPad Pro with a high camera bump proves placing it in a backpack with or without any protection is fine.

Earlier reports of the 2018 iPad Pro having a slight bends may have been due to quality control or some users misleading people for clicks. I have a 2020 iPad Pro and guess what no bends even in a backpack. If the design of the 2018 iPad Pro was flawed it would not make it to the Air 4 and mini 6.

Why are you clutching at straws?

I got an iPhone SE cause I dislike the notch and wanted a small phone.
I really hope the 2023 iteration of the MBP will do away with the notch, but I kind of doubt it since Apple tends to stick to one "style" for ~5 years before they shift to the next style.
