I was on Apple's site building a 21.5 iMac. Its ship date would be the end of September. This is very similar to when I was placing my iMac 27" order that I canceled because I want an Apple silicone mac. . Within a month the new iMac was released with updated specs... My prediction would be that the new iMac will be here before the end of September.

probably this will be replaced with the rumored 24" AS iMac but I don't expect it before October, maybe mid September.

There's similar dates for other Macs too. I think it has more to do with Covid-related production schedules and the start of the school year rather than an imminent refresh.

Well, that's a bit wishful thinking and hasty. You should change the exclamation mark to question mark. Your delivery date says about three weeks which is not unusual in these days. You also chose "free delivery" which is always slower by a week so your delivery date is actually two weeks. Even before the recent update the delivery date kept pushing back from June to Oct for iMac 27" so it can take 2-3 months before we see an AS iMac. Even if I change everything in iMac 21.5" here in Sweden I can have it in about a week.

Also the chance is very minimal we get to see an AS iMac before iPhone 12 with the new A14 chip and iPhone 12 event got pushed back to Oct. Apple will first introduce the slower A14 in iPhone 12 before they launch the faster A14X or Z in iPad and Macs, not the other way around.

It wouldn't be so customer friendly either to introduce AS iMac just a month after the new Intel iMac. The fact that 21.5" didn't get an update like 27" can mean that something new is coming but not so soon. Personally I don't think we'll see an AS iMac 24" that will be faster while Intel iMac 27" is still selling. I think Apple will transit the whole iMac lineup to AS at once next year.

I don’t think it’s wise to launch a totally brand new generation amid the current climate/world events?

I would not be surprised if we saw a AS iMac before the end of the year, maybe in October. Apple are going to have to release them sometime and wether or not this makes the existing intel iMacs redundant will depend on what the user requirers. The AS Macs will definitely have to out perform the existing models or what would be the point of the whole exercise.

I was tracking shipping dates for all portable macs for my purchase, and most of them had long(1-2 week) shipping dates and none in stock due to high demand and covid. But today, it seems that Apple restocked most of the Airs, 4tb Pro 13 and MBP 16. So they are available for in-store pickup at major city and have pretty fast shipping dates.
But MBP 13 base model has shipping dates for the end of September and none in-stock(ref doesn't count).
So that tells me a lot about their decision not to restock it before the new model, but restock every other laptop except base MBP 13.

My sister ordered a Fourth (Current) Generation 12.9" iPad Pro just over a month ago and it just got to her last week. Delays on current products seem to be commonplace right now.

Also, the important thing to bear in mind is that we are not going to see the launch of any Apple Silicon Mac prior to the general launch of macOS Big Sur. Once Big Sur is launched and available publicly, then it will be fair game to see Apple Silicon Macs. But, since there won't be an Apple Silicon release of macOS Catalina (thankfully), it's safe to assume that you're still likely to get Intel inside if you place that order now. That said, unless x86 is a necessity, I would not buy a MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro, Mac mini, or 21.5" iMac until Apple Silicon replacements are available. (I do not necessarily make that same recommendation for the higher-end Macs as there may still be a considerable amount of time before Apple Silicon makes it to those systems and people only use Macs for so many years before replacing them anyway.)

I wish that was true but the 27 inch was restrained for three months or so before it was released. The 21.5 inch has had 1-2 weeks delivery for many months. Bug Sur is coming in October (or late sept) and as noted above, anytime after that is possible. I think it would be a good idea to have the first (and low cost!) ASi Mac released before the holiday season to boosts the initial sales. Late October release would be possible.

Mac events are usually late October/November. I dint see a reason why they would want to be different this time.

Calm yourself. But hey, if you want to focus on a single factor and ignore all others, go ahead.

Why not? It would have been in development for years at this point. Same as the iPhones, which are also definitely shipping.

There are always going to be some events going on. Apple needs to introduce new products to keep the money rolling in and the doors open.

While I fully expect the rumored ~24" AS iMac will replace the 21.5" Intel iMac and I am hoping it will drop in October with macOS 11, I don't see the current Shipping Date as an indicator this will in fact happen.

Delivery dates for the 27" iMac 5K have been consistently 2-3 weeks longer if you order it with an SSD larger than the base 512GB and now has ship dates pushing into late September with such configurations. As the iMac now has soldered SSDs, Apple likely focused on the 512GB motherboards for initial shipments and is backordered on larger configurations.

The 21” iMac and the 2TB 13” MBP are the most outdated and most likely the first to get AS.

Shipping times may be an indication, and they are longer than usual, especially the 2TB 13” MBP. Which might indicate AS coming in October or November after the release of Big Sur. But that’s nothing new, we already knew this.
