I think you have a problem. A serious one. Actually two. Another is related to the fact that you do not understand how seious it is. Really sorry for you.

Ok so I love my iPhone 8 on iOS 11.1.2

But honestly I'm craving something new

Should I do the X?

I would need 256GB AT&T. Currently have the 256GB on AT&T for my 8.

I don’t understand this at all. You already purchased the iPhone X previously and said it was the “Best iPhone ever”. Now you’re saying you’re ‘craving something new’? You already owned the iPhone X, why are you asking others for advice for something you already owned? According to this previous thread you started.

If you look through the OP's previous threads it's hard to keep track of exactly what phone he does have. He's mentioned having both the X and an 8, and also posted a bit about getting a 7 just a month or two before the launch of the 8.

All I can say is that he seems to be the type who's very indecisive and a bit insecure about his preferences. Not sure that anyone here can help with that.

Asking total strangers what you should do and what you should buy.

I say buy the X, two of them and finance them for as long as possible. Get the maxed out version and a leather case. You will be very happy.

I will never understand the concept of asking a bunch of total strangers whether or not to spend $1250 on a new cell phone. We don't know you, we don't know your financial status, or anything else about you. How could we possibly give you accurate advice?
Why do people have to be extra and hassle users for seeking advice from a forum with potentially sound recommendations? Put it this way, someone switched from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X and they layout all the pros and cons. Simple as that. Geez.

There are already multiple threads comparing the features of each device, many online reviews of the devices and the Apple website itself offers product features and comparison charts. That info is plentiful on the internet.

According to other posts, it looks like the OP had already purchased the X and returned it. Now he’s asking whether or not he should (re)purchase the X. If he’d already had one, how does he already not have all the necessary information? Further, he asked “should I ...”. How in the world would an absolute stranger know the answer?

“Should I (buy)?” Is infinitely more subjective than “What are the differences?” Or “How is it better than...?”.

And the OP has already owned both... why the need for this thread? The answer to "should I..." is "you already did".

We know there are other threads (Contrary to every thread being slightly different), but I believe everybody has their own viewpoint when They start their own thread, in this case, which the OP did based on past purchases being uncertain. Not to mention, it’s a bit dismissive pointing others to Apple‘s website or other tech reviews on the Internet, when this is a discussion tech site for others varying thoughts. It’s much more personalized on a thread versus Apples website, Which might be informative, but it doesn’t provide the feedback requested either. Some just don’t have anybody else to seek it advice on, in the case of the OP, it’s not uncommon in this situation to ask other users.

I agree. I genuinely don't like the look of it. Especially if you compare it with, say, the Samsung Galaxy 8. The iPhone X looked dated to me after about a month of owning it.

The reason the X looks so dated already is because it's got the same rounded sides as the last 4 years' iPhones. It's just in stainless steel and the power button is longer, but it's really just more of the same.

The rounded sides look nice and don't look outdated on the 6-8 series, because that's the signature design element of that era. But then for the X to supposedly be the future of the iPhone, with this being the basic design language for the next X years to come, to see those same borrowed rounded sides from the 6-8 just seemed so incredibly half-assed and lazy; especially knowing that you're going to now be looking at them for probably the next 2-4 years again at least. I really expected Apple to go back to flat sides or something with the X, not recycle 6-8 design cues.

Well the X isn’t going to give you anything new. It’s still just a phone running iOS - the difference is aesthetic apart from it having a different authentication method (with mixed reviews from what I’ve read).

Just enjoy what you have and stop yearning for things you don’t. You’ll spend your life perpetually unfulfilled otherwise.

It gives you animojis :)

I've got both the X and the 8. The latter feels really compact and neat in my pocket - used more as a media consumption device. I have a few more apps on the X for a daily driver. Both 64GB - I don't need any more space. If you can afford 2 iPhones, I'd recommend this combo.

Yes. You should do the X. It's a comp You don't want to be seen with that for the next 10 months until the refresh is launched.

If you go to AT&T chat and ask to be connected with a Loyalty representative and don't stop until you do, you should be offered an iPhone X 256GB for $699. There's a great thread on this, it's how I got 2 iPhone X's for my two very deserving sons at Christmas.

Look at post #9 and then post #16 and do exactly what it says.
Yes. You should do the X. It's a completely new phone. The 8 is the last of its kind, a relic whose lineage goes back to the iPhone 3GS. You don't want to be seen with that for the next 10 months until the refresh is launched.

This is one of the sorriest things I've read on here. The X is a great phone. My wife loves hers and gets questions about it all the time at work. But it's a $1000 phone, not a $40k rolex or a $150k car. Anyone can "afford' one, so you're not going to impress anyone with one now. MAYBE when it first came out people would be impressed to see one in person. But now it's just another overpriced piece of technology. To insinuate that being seen with an iPhone 8 (or any other phone) is bad is pretty sad. I know a guy who is a millionaire and drives a Honda Accord and wears Nikes every day. And then there are people over paying on rent and broke as hell who own an X and lease a luxury car. Material possessions only define you if you're a child or lack in character. Not trying to single you out. A ton of people post a pic of an iPhone and an apple watch and people reply how "baller" they are... I mean come on lol

You are very right. It’s all about priorities and some people will prioritise having a nice phone over anything else. I’ve seen a few X’s come up for sale on Facebook market place and is clear some jumped in and soon realised they couldn’t really justify it. It’s not always wealthy people and where I live you don’t get assumptions made on your personal wealth simply by what iPhone you are using. It’s a sad world for those that do live under that materialistic pressure though.

A guy in my local area bought an X and now wants to swap it for a car! It just goes to show anybody can prioritise their spending if they really want something, it just might not always be the most sensible choice.

This is one of the sorriest things I've read on here.

Accuse someone of being superficial and judgemental and then go on and judge him superficially. Hypocrite much?

Oh, so the iPhone X is "affordable"? Cool. Please go into the hundreds of threads and thousands of posts since November from people crying about how expensive and unaffordable the iPhone X is with the same type of attitude you're showing towards me. Someone says, "oh I am in college and am eating Ramen soup three meals a day" and tell them "anyone can afford a $1000 phone!", see how that goes over.

Can't have it both ways. Either "anyone can afford a $1000 phone" or " a $1000 phone is too expensive for many people". Hint: More than 75% of all anti-X posts are about its high price.

To insinuate that being seen with an iPhone 8 (or any other phone) is bad is pretty sad.

.....and the other 25% of the anti-X posts talk about the Notch and how 'ugly' it is. So, again, can't have it both ways. Either I am wrong for saying that style and fashion matters or they are wrong for being so superficial as to dismiss the X because the "notch is ugly". Can't have it both ways.

I know a guy who is a millionaire and drives a Honda Accord and wears Nikes every day.

And now you know two, congratulations. Before I became a multimillionaire and was a plain-old millionaire I drove a Honda and wore Nike's too. But I always had the best electronics money could buy and a vintage wristwatch collection that could cover a decent mortgage. Didn't mean I was a "man of the people". Just meant that at that time my car and footwear wasn't a priority.

Material possessions only define you if you're a child or lack in character. Not trying to single you out. A ton of people post a pic of an iPhone and an apple watch and people reply how "baller" they are... I mean come on lol

...and here's the inevitable soapbox. Yes, yes, yes, you are just such a high-character and high-moral person who a) thinks the world's most expensive smartphone is "affordable to anyone" and b) that strangers you know nothing about on discussion forums are "sorry people". How elitist of you. Spend a day at a bus stop, ask those people why they don't have $1000 smartphones. Get your wife to donate her iPhone X to charity and pick up a used 6 off Craigslist for $49. Then you can come here and lecture me on morality and judge me like this.

Hey Bolt James - why do you still have such an old iPad? Step up with the big boys and get the latest iPad Pro :)

I don’t think anybody here actually believes any of this though. I think you say all this because you enjoy the reactions you get. I see this sort of thing all over the internet and there are many like you. If you genuinely were what you say then you wouldn’t need to boast about it.

I already said I wasn't trying to single you out. I'm happy for you and your apparently incredible success in life. But to make people feel like they shouldn't even be seen with an inferior phone is sad to me.

Yes, EVERYONE can get an X if they have $50 a month to pay it off in 2 years. People complain about the price because it's higher than any phone before it, but it's not out of reach for nearly anyone with a job and $50 per month. Very few people can buy a new Bentley, and even fewer can realistically afford one. Should those same people feel bad for driving a 3 series bmw? By your logic, they should. The only thing you said that really irked me was the comment about not wanting to be seen with an iPhone 8. Care to explain that part?

Hey, you got me there, but my iPad only exists for when I travel by air and need distraction for 3 to 16 hours and for that purpose, for viewing TV shows and movies, my Air 2 is still performing perfectly. I can take a flight from JFK to HKG on a single charge.

Now, if Apple releases a new iPad with a notch, different story, then I'd need one to not look out of style. But as long as the current iPad has the bezel and the Home button, I'm good. Besides, with a 12" MacBook, an iPhone X, and a Rolex Daytona in the first class lounge I've got more than enough eye candy to distract an onlooker from my old iPad.

Dude is calling it like it is, plain and simple. Just because you don't agree with my point of view doesn't make me wrong. If you don't think the world is full of status symbols in the era of Snapchat and Instagram, nothing I can do to help you see what everyone else does.

I'm not the one doing that, those aren't my actions. I am merely articulating the tenets of luxury branding strategies which lead to differentiation along price lines. This is new news for Apple and iPhone owners who are used to heavily subsidized phones and all people, rich and poor, using the same handsets.

If there were no iPhone X then there would be nothing wrong with an iPhone 8. But now that the X exists with its breakthru new design and features, every other iPhone is instantly rendered obsolete from a stylistic standpoint. No different than when BMW overhauls it's 3 Series every 7 years and comes out with a brand spanking new model that looks markedly different than the one before. The new one looks new and the old one suddenly looks old. This matters to some people.

No one cares about how their phone makes people look at them, though...

That's extremely presumptuous of you, Tony.

Millions of people care about how their possessions reflect on them, the multi-billion dollar Luxury industry is proof-positive of that. There's nothing special about a Ralph Lauren polo shirt that makes it worth 300% more than a similar no-name item at Target. A $10,000 Kia gets you to the same school play as a $90,000 Mercedes does.

I can walk into someone's house, look at their kitchen, and immediately know whether or not they are well-off or have a sense of style. A refrigerator speaks volumes. So too does your smartphone. Especially since it goes places your car and your refrigerator don't.

I guess I just don't give a ****? I'm not a multi millionaire like you claim to be, so maybe if I was I would succumb to the vain lifestyle. Sad, really.

Apple isn’t a luxury brand though. Every man and his dog has Apple products. I don’t think I know anybody who doesn’t own at least one Apple gadget. Owning an iPhone X says nothing about you.
